What concussion stories do you guys have? Have you had many concussions? How did you get them?

I just got major concussion. I was doing skiercorss caught an edge on top of a 40ft jump and flew in the air doing a 540 flat spin landed right on my head. Right into the nets. Apparently almost jumped an 8m high net and ended up caught in the net. Everyone thought i'd broken my kneck. But walked away with an almost ruptured lateral ligament (neither of my skiis came off) and a bad concussion. Sucked because did second run and got fastest time but It didn't count. But was completly fucked the next day and still can't do anything.

What are your stories?

I was playing american football, and i had been on virtually every special teams and offensive play. I was on kickoff team already tired but still going full force. I take on a big blocker successfully and right after I toss him away there's the returner and i didnt get a chance to tackle him properly so i just got him down whichever way I could and he trucked me and i got up with my head buzzing and with blotchy vision. I was an idiot an thought i could play through it so i did until i realized i could barely see the ball being thrown to me.

Fell off a swingset straight to my head on concrete.

Half corked 540 to tail catch lander on a 50 fter.

Front tire of my bike went out of the bowl while going around the capsule, and I ate coping. Hard.

Be sure to wear your helmet.

I broke 2 vertebrae, fractured a 3rd, and all i vaguely remember is putting my ski socks on in the lodge earlier that morning. My bud was cruisin ahead of me so no one saw or really knows what happened. I woke up in a helicopter all confused and concussed, yellin at the emts because they didn't give me a window seat or somethin crazy. Turns out everything healed super quick with no swellin or complications. Just had to buy a new helmet cause mine split in half. so lucky and so stoked i was wearing a helmet. stuffs scary

i overshot a jump, landed in the tranny of the landing, double heel released and went straight to my head, the story the SP told me was that i was out for a like 10 sec, then got up and tried to put my skis back on but the heelpiece was up and i just kept tryin to click in but couldnt, they came up and asked me how i was feelin, i told them i was fine, and wanted to stay in the comp (it was practice), he said hed let me once he could check me out inside first, the first thing i actually remember was my dad walkin into the patrol room. i had given the patroler all my info and had a lengthy disscussion with him, then all of a sudden i was like wtf am i doin in here and they had to explain what had happened for the past hour while i was in there.

I don't remember this but my friend says I did a 3 off of the cat track at the top of the crest lift...landed fine made a big turn and caught my tips..I ended up rag dolling through the trees on skiers right and somewhere in there I scraped my head against a tree. I guess I got up and was like "my head kinda hurts" and then I kept asking what happened over and over. When some blood trickled out from under my hat is when we went into patrol. I lost most of that day in the memory banks and now wear a helmet....

i have had a bunch of concussions.

three playing hockey (got my head slammed into the edge of the glass at the end of the bench, took a big hit with my head down, hit in the head with a puck)

three playing soccer (kicked in the head, head into goalpoast, elbow to side of head followed by head to ground)

two in wrestling (dropped on my head in practice off the edge of the mat, thrown by a coach who outweighed me by 100 lbs and i popped my lung, broke my collarbone, and got a severe concussion)

two in skiing (big air comp fall, just a stupid fall in the park, had helmet on for one of the two)

one in a car accident

of the 11 or so, only about 3 were serious, one was really serious, the rest just make you dizzy for a while, out of it, and feel liek you have to puke.

I was riding mx and approching a 65ft tabletop when my foot sliped off the peg right at the bottom of the take off and my ass slamed on the back of the seat/fender compressing the shock and simetaniously as sliding back I opened the throttle all of the way these two things catapolted me off the jump. my body position caused me to do a 1/2 a backflip I landed way out on the flat. flat on my back with the bike (aprox 250lbs) on top of me. I dont rember anything from right befor impact untill sometime in the ER but my friends said I just kept repeating "where's my dad.... where am I" for about an hour needless to say I had a pretty sick concussion along with a broken right olna and radius (two bones from wrist to elbow) a fractured elbow, a fractured pelvis (inside the hip joint) a large contusion on my liver and a hemotoma from my waist to my neck

scary non skiing one:

i was playing rugby this past spring in a hs league and as a kid scored he turned around and elbowed my teammate in the head. i walked up to him and saw the eyes in the back of his head and him shaking like crazy. scariest thing i have ever seen. he woke up about 10 mins later. he had such a bad concussion that he cant do anything for a long time. they said if he even bumps his head on something he could die.

I overshot a jump in Freeway due to the light changing around and them salting the take off when I was eating lunch. So I threw a switch rodeo and completed the rotation at the start of the landing, but I was still at least 12 feet up. The last thing I remember is trying to spread out to kill my rotation, but I am sure that didn't work too well. After that some guy came down with some pieces of equipment that I lost and asked me if I okay, but I just mumbled gibberish at him. About 30 minutes later I remembered that it was birthday and how fucked up that was. So I was in the medical center for about 2 hours until I could remember the doctor's name. I asked him if I could drink that night since it was my birthday and he laughed and said no. Good thing he was wrong and it takes way less drinks to get drunk after you get a concussion.

Football helmet didn't have enough air in it, i knew it wasn't enough, but enough to keep it on square an play with comfortably

labeled a returner and in tha process of tha hit went helmet to helmet and pretty much knocked myself. . . . . . . .

the fuck out

I have had a couple playing soccer. I kid on my team has had 11 and now cant do any sports for the rest of his life. He is slowly loosing his short term memory and is all fucked up.

I dont know if this was just a mild concussion or if it was just a bad hit or what:

I was playing lacrosse and I went to scoop up a ball and as I came back up someone slammed really hard into the top of my helmet, I flew back and dropped my stick and the ball. The game was still in play but I just kinda walked off the field in a daze and sat down, and for the next hour or so I was confused and had really wierd cases of Deja vue. But after a while it went away so I never actually got it checked out.

i got trucked in hockey by a 6'4, 250 pound kid, i scored and as i was skating away i wasn't looking up and the kid cheap shotted me right in the head with both his hands up and i just collapsed and got all sick and fucked up and it was a bad concussion,

i've also had one mountain biking, i came too fast off a skinny and didn't wheelie drop a rock so i went over the handlebars and headfirst into a tree, i broke my helmet in half

I've had 5 concussions, all skiing, two of which were last season. I've been wearing a helmet for every one. I've been having memory loss problems recently as well as headaches, nausea, absent mindedness and light headedness. I just went to the doctor today and I'm gonna be going in for an MRI.

Right now it looks like the best I can hope for is to take next year off from skiing and pretty much anything high impact or with much physical activity. That's the best case scenario...

1st- hit my head on a padded beam in a play place (age 12)

2nd- hit a huge wave on a kneeboard and smacked my face on the front of the board (also was very dehydrated) (age 15)

3rd- my friend wesley smacked hit me on the top of the head at our mountains open house thing- not a very serious one... (age 15)

4th- in chef class i was leaning foward to get some paper towels and slipped and rammed my head into a drawer... yes a concussion in chef class i know im hardcore... haha (age 15)

none of them were doing anything spectacular just dumb stuff

i have one it was last march me and some friends built a booter in this place and in the morning when we built it it was nice powder landing but we hit it lots and it got warmmer so it went to like slush kinda stuff and i went for a seven after landing a 3 a 5 off it but i hucked to hard and under rotated got 630 caught an edge and flew down the landing and nailed head first and blacked out and forgot most of the day before

haha nothing too spectacular.. but i got two back in the fifth grade, one playing some pond hockey when some kid tried to stop and hit my skates from the back, smacked my head on the ice. another one playing some football before school, got tackled into a fire hydrant, the back of my head hit a bolt or something i guess.. the last thing i remember was my dad dropping me off early for school.. haha

then i had one last year doing a cork 3 caught an edge on the lip and landed on my head.. haha or so my buddies say

ive had alot of them but the best 2 were..

i was walking home with my buddy and accidently called out 6 guys, all of which were MUCH bigger than me and i got knocked the fuck out and my friend carried me to his house and for some reason at 5 am when i woke up i just left and left the door open and walked to my dads house where i slept all day and for some reason at around 6 i called my mom to take me to the hospital even though my dad was home..

i dont remember any of this, hospital for 3 days

another time i was skiing with some of my dads friends kids in whistler and felt like being a hotshot abit so i bombed into the hip on the left thats right before the HL park and i dont remember past that but apperently i overshot by around 30 feet to the tips of my skis which catapulted my face into the hardpack. then i stood up and put my skis back on and lots of people asked if i was ok and i said i was fine, i then proceeded to pass out for 8 hours.

ya my brain is kinda fucked

around 5 concussions, many from hits from behind in hockey, a couple from hits to the head in lacrosse, 1 from snowboarding, and 1 from skiing, which i will tell this story...

I was skiing whistler on the second to last weekend it was open, learnt 450s this day out of an upbox, but i would always hit the jump before to get my speed right, anyways its a run near the end of the day, and my shins were hurtin like crazy, so i skipped the jump but dropped from the same place as for the jump and tucked over the knuckle, hit the up box, realized i hit it bigger than before so i spun slower, spun to slow, went to big, front 360 to flat to head smack to rolling around on the ground puking to memory loss, to repetition of numerous spoken things to 3 weeks of headaches and memory loss

playing tag at my house when I was little. slipped on leaves and went beaver style on a stump.

playin on a shopping cart. rode it into another shopping cart and the little swinging metal thing whipped up and knocked me cold for 3 minutes lol

skiing. overshot my first ever switch hit, landed backseat, broke 3 vertebrae, fractured a fourth, out like a light.

another time I overshot a 60 footer straight back onto my head. struggled with life and told my friends to fuck off and leaving me alone for nearly a half hour before I came back to reality.

... so my current problems are half being dropped as a baby and half my own doing...

i've had two concussions playing rugby, one skiing (fucked up on a cork 5), and one when some bitch tripped me while i was running in third grade(i ended up with a fucking hole in the top of my head from the sharp rock i fell onto).

I was riding my bike down a pretty good sized hill once and hit a rock with my wheel. Went OTB straight into the ground and blacked out for a bit. I woke up and heard my friends running towards me as I tried to find my shoes. that was crazy.

I blacked out for a split second at Loveland last year. I was coming out of the trees onto a run and there was a really small jump but it dove down really deep and then shot up to the lip and I wasn't ready for it. My skis dipped down and i went flying head first into the groomers.

I was just skiing, it was a pretty easy black diamond in Mammoth, perfect weather, great snow... No idea what happened but I fell pretty far, neither of my skis released, I cracked my helmet and sprained my neck. I looked like a body builder for a week after and couldnt move my head.

Good times.

So i was playin some varsity hockey, at which i sucked by the way, and we were beatin this team so bad that our coach was putting everyone in at different positions. So i see this kid skatin with the puck looking straight at the ice, which as any hockey player will tell is a good way to wind up in the hospital, so i tee him up and charge at him. As soon as i hit him we both fell backwards and i landed with the back of my head taking almost all of the impact. Everyone said i wrecked the kid, but then i guess it took me like four tries to stand up, so i looked like a total ass. the next thing that i could remember i was sitting in my kitchen eating pasta with my parents like nothing had happened. But after a week of being concussed i got to Breck for the first time which beat the shit out of hockey, and it's been skiing ever since, YAY! I couldn't believe how ironic the whole thing was, first of all the only time that i got to play all season i wound up getting a concussion. And second of all, he should have been the one in the hospital, not me!

same thing happened to me. i think i mgith of gotten a slight concussion(ive never had one so i have nothing to compare it to) but i did break both my thumbs

that could have been a lot worse, lucky you didn't catch your tips.

Anyways, i was swinging from a dog leash hooked onto a screw in our downstairs ceiling when i was like 10, and it snapped. The screw broke and a hunk went flying and stuck into my head, then i fell and smacked my head on the concrete floor. Things were blurry and i felt like throwing up.. and i had to get stitches.

1 check from behind into boards in hockey, damn near knocked me out.

2 pretzeling a rainbow box, caught a edge and hit my head on the edge of rail, cracked my helmet and was still concussed

on this topic of my concussions, what do the thread contributors consider a concussion? Because most times I hit my head I have headaches for the rest of the day, but thats not a concussion, my definition of a real concussion (major) is knocked out, puking, memory loss and usually talking in jibberish or repeting stuff

when iwas in 5th grade i was racing this kid on skis, he ran over my tails andi sup out hit a tree,

got nocked out

broke my helmet

and facture my back

was hospitaliezed for a few weeks.

then couldnt do much for awile

it sucked last run of the year too

Damn that sucks man. A kid who I used to play soccer with had the same symptoms except after 11. He has trouble in class and cant do anything with contact for the rest of his life. If he get another 1 he could die or do very serious brain damage. More than he already has.

Yo when you guys say youve had like 5 and shit...are really sure you had a concussion? Did you get guys that shit checked out? Bcuz ive had a serious concussion a couple years ago but nothing since. Unfortunately this past weekend i tackled this guy in rugby and he plowed over me so i brought him down basically over me and hit the left side of my head midly hard on the ground. I fell fine and played the rest of the game. Now im worried I might have one. Im going to talk to the team physio but shit im fucking worried cuz i want to play...how did u guys really know?

Well there are all different grades. If you get knocked out obviously its one. Things to check are pupils dilating. Also try to remember shit. The date, what you had for breakfast, where you are, your name, friends names etc. The shittyness of you memory determines how bad it is. Some people say try to count backwards from 100 by 7 but some people cant do that normally. Also feeling sick to your stomach or throwing up afterwards it a pretty sure sign you had 1. I always feel really weird and not quite my self for a couple of days. Also a headache persists for a couple days, especially when blood goes to ur head. If you just ket playing and didnt have any of the syptoms u probly just banged ur head with nothing bad to come from it. The thing is they all start to add up. But obviosly little ones dont do that much damage.

My first concussion came from miscalculating a jump and way overshooting into a mogul field. Turns out mogul fields make really really bad outruns.

in seventh grade i was picking up some batting gloves near where a guy was practice swinging and he didn't see me. he ended up hitting my straight in the forehead (like right where the hair meets) and i had a pretty bad concussion. i couldn't stand up for a couple days or i would wanna puke and i would get light headed. but 3 days after was the worst, i showered and all the blood came out of my hair with the hot water and the shower just reeked up blood. probably the worst smell of my life.
