Concrete box

So I was at 7 Springs a few weeks ago. They have this new urban park that you probably heard about if you ski the east. Its an urban themed park so they have handrails and then grey fiber glass boxes that look like concrete. As it turns out a few of them actually are concrete. Not knowing this, my first run through I decide to pop a 180 on this down box (made of concrete). I jumped on 90 and my skis immediately caught on the concrete and I flipped over onto my shoulder. Three weeks later I go to the doctor because I am still sore as hell from that crash. Turns out I have a broken collarbone. Don't you think they should at least have a sign telling people not to grind the damn thing? I mean most of the boxes had grey fiber glass, only about 3 had concrete. How are you suppose to know not to grind it? Anybody else have this problem at 7 springs?

It was your first run through. Usually on the first run if you don't know the park you should go through and scope the features. I say its your own fault.

agreed.Especially in an urban style park. If you ever ski urban, defiantly check out the feature before hitting it.

Sounds like a fun park though.

I ski 7 Springs every weekend, i hit the concrete hubbas every weekend. there not that bad you just have to get use to it.

im think it would be a good idea to maybe have a warning at the beginning of thepark, like on a sign establishing it as the urban park (you know, the one with all the orange park symbols and etiquette that most parks have). but this is definately a look before you leap deal. and my hill has a concrete box, it is possible to slide concrete, so dont be surprised they didnt have signs telling you not to slide it.

partially your fault partially theirs, they should have a sign explaining that. But on the other hand its not a bad idea to take a quick lap through the park checking everything out...

Yeah I would think you would know right away when you break something.. especially your collarbone..

The way I broke it I fell on my shoulder and that put a lot of stress on the collarbone. My collarbone cracked a lot but did not fully split which made it a lot less noticeable. If you look carefully you can notice a difference between the broken and not broken but it isnt like I have a bone sticking out of my skin. Plus the pain isn't incredable. I play football and BMX so im used to being sore and I kinda though this would just kinda go away.

Took me 2 weeks, when I was playing rugby 5/6 days a week to realise I had broken ribs

ribs are a little different than a collar bone, they shit literally supports your whole shoulder...

well if they dont have it right there, i would guess that they would have it on that warning sign saying that you risk injury etc... but yah you should have checked the place first.

*you're

but thanks for letting me know you're 13 and i should ignore everything you have to say

that sucks...but to be honest you should always do a run through...maybe this will teach u a lesson

I dunno what to tell you, Life is Hard in the streets.. Plus you have to hike the park anyways so you kind of have to check the features out.

I could well believe he took 3 weeks before going to hospital. Some breaks just don't hurt that much. I once tripped down some steps. My ankle was sore but thought I had just sprained it. I limped around on it for a week, but it still hurt, so I walked to hospital, about 2 miles, and it turned out I had a broken ankle.

But yes in the future just have a look at features before you hit them.

i can speak from experience to say that this is true, but not applicable.

i broke my collarbone playing hockey, sat a shift after eating it in the corner, finished the game a little later mostly due to the adrenaline masking the pain.

i went back to the locker room, sat down, and dude the pain hit me like a fucking wall. i barely fractured mine, but it was NOTICEABLE painful to move that arm. if kept in a sling position it didn't hurt very much but as soon as it moved the pain was sharp. maybe he could've gone 1 day without noticing but dude I was wincing everytime the car went over a bump on the way to the hospital. no way you went 3 weeks and didn't realize it at all, unless you have a hairline fracture and no separation...

i broke my fibula and didn't realise until i went to hospital 4 days later, i thought i'd sprained my ankle

but collar bone, my friend did that and he had pain whenever he tried to move his arm, how did you not notice?

For real though, I doubt it's the resorts fault for it being concrete. I've hit regular boxes with burs, etc that caused me to do the same thing and totally eat shit. I've also hit marble boxes that are waaay more slippery than expected. It said urban and you got urban.

I am still waiting on x ray results but it sounds and looks to me like its a hairline fracture. However the bone dislocated so im not totally sure. The pain is nothing like what you described, I just have a sharp pain if I lift up but even that is bearable. With the way I fell on my shoulder and the amount of pain I experienced I really didn't think I could have broken the bone so I just kinda assumed it would go away. The dislocation pushed the bone in, but it isn't really that noticeable unless you are looking for it.

I'm just sayin that when kids start blaming the resort and saying "they shoulda", it scares resorts from building cool features. Jus sayin. Don't be that guy who ruins it for everybody else cause your butthurt. Not sayin ya are and no hate. Vibes on recovery. Jus sayin though.

Not trying to blame the resort at all. It was 100% my fault. Im just saying it would have been nice if they gave me a heads up. But really I know what you mean. At my home resort they killed the terrain park after some dumbass broke his neak and decided to sue. Now our park sucks and it wasnt the resorts fault at all.

yeah yours probably wasn't as serious as mine

i had an obvious bump in the middle of my collarbone for a while, and could not lift my arm above my shoulder for about 2 months. mine impacted and split upward like this /\ except not that much of course haha.

might just be a dislocation though. either way, vibes to you and my apologies if i seemed like an asshole in my previous post. if it's just a hairline fracture you can probably be skiing in a month, hitting rails and such after about a month and a half.

i went back to full contact hockey after 6 and a half weeks and ended up fine, although i did chance it a little going back a week and a half earlier than the doctor wanted me to

You go so much faster on skis than on a skateboard though. I've had way harder slams skiing than skating.

dont be a bitch man, theres signs literlly everywhere telling you to look before you leap. and you took the test didnt you, the one where it tells you to scope out the park in the beginning, 100% riders fault.

hold on... fiberglass? fiberglass boxes would be the most dangerous thing ever. I think you mean plexiglass. fiberglass would get all splintery and shitty.
