So i was bored one day and started downloading Fable: The Lost Chapters via a Torrent. It downloaded just fine, and installed just fine also.

Now when i went to play the game it started fucking up. After about 8 minutes, the game moves areas and it auto saves. It starts to load, then screen just goes black. Sound is still there and computer is running fine, but game is stuck.

So i decided to DL another version of the game(first one was a self extracting .exe and this new one is an ISO).

This one goes along fine, but at the same part, it does the exact same thing. So i uninstall this one and decided to just bite the bullet and go buy the game for $20.

Now i install the LEGIT copy of the game and it does the EXACT SAME THING.

What the fuck is happening? Are there still corrupted files somewhere in my system? What can i do?

Thanks and +karma for help

your graphics card probably can't handle the game. what kind of graphics card do you have? try turning some settings down

No, its not that. My card can run the game just fine. I am able to play it for about 5-10 minutes(depending on how fast i do the quests), and then when it goes to load the next area, it stops working.

Does the collective think that a system restore to before i installed the OG torrent file is a good idea?

When you go to task manager does it say not responding? What operating system are you running? What graphics card, cpu, etc. It sounds like a driver issue not necessarily the graphics card itself but I don't know why it would try to save.

Task Mgr. says it is running fine and i can still hear sound from the game.

And i am on Vista Premium. Other than that, i can't tell you just quite yet. I am at my mom's and my laptop(where the game is on) is at my dad's.

I think it is doing it cause of a corrupted file in the OG torrent. Cause when i installed this game from the disks(legit version) and went to play, it said that the game encountered an error last time and didn't exit correctly. So that means that there are still traces of the torrent version on my CPU somewhere.

Where could they be though?

I would try to clear out the folder the old one was in but not before uninstalling it otherwise your computer will still think it's there. You can then reinstall.

How much ram do you have on your computer? If you are only running a moderate vid card and you don't have an ample supply of RAM it could easily cause freezing. Especially with Vista Premium because that is a very ram intensive OS.

the game just might not like vista, how old is the game? when you say you can still hear the games sounds, is it just a loop repeating, like the last bit of sound that was loaded into memory just repeating, or background music, or if you try to move around or somehing that would make noise you can hear that?

Repeating loop.

And if i try to go into the menu's, it makes no sound where it normally would have.

I might just try a system restore to before i installed it the first time

With things like this its often a million things that could be wrong. But you could do a few things. Though a black screen sounds like a graphics failure, be it hardware or software related.

Update your video drivers. Certain cards and driver releases have been known to play havoc with specific games.

If you can get to the menu in the game try putting all the settings at the lowest, see if that does anything.

See if there are any updates from Lionhead on the game.

Uninstall, then do a restore point to before you did anything with torrents.

Also, try running the game in compatibility mode with XP SP2. To do this, right click on fable.exe in its folder, go to compatibility and check the corresponding box.

Minor things you could also do would include a virus scan, an spyware purge and a registry cleaning

Just out of curiosity, what are the specs of your laptop?

It could still be your graphics card. Different parts of games require higher graphic amounts, does your graphics card meet the recommended ?

did you leave your gay porn up while you tried? my chocolate porn does that to me but i think the problem is your overloading your computer with gay. first gay porn, then fable. just too much son.
