.My computer is pretty much destroyed cause of a crazy amount of viruses and me not updating my anti virus. So i need to wipe the hard drive. Theres nothing on the computer i need anymore but i dont even know where to start

Oh yea and i have windows XP.

Yes, make sure not do do any repair install bullshit, it does nothing. formatting starts you off on square one.

yea im not sure i have an xp cd, Isnt there a way i can make one.

Oh yea and i would like to clarify that i speak english lol, but for real i have no idea what most of that meant.

he said everything important is off his hard drive, so 5 easy steps:

1- get a Ubuntu boot cd

2- start up with that

3- reformat and partition the drive using partition editor

4- install Ubuntu on one partition

5- install xp or whatever other crap on another partition

you some salesman for microsoft?

use ubuntu .... then you can put xp or whatever on another partition

unless your not the greatest with computers

read what? the fact that he got tons of viruses that killed his computer and now doesnt know how to start over?

well I said probably the best way to start over, unless you want to take it into a shop

like i said though, you need to know a lil something about computers to do that on your own.

agreed. Just bring it to the local computer store, or call up the maker if you don't have a disc. Just call and say " i want to reformat but dont have an XP disc. What do I do?"

ya i guess that might be true

but if he's worried about viruses again definitely look into either that or a mac

and ubuntu is crazily modifiable so you could set it up pretty much however you want.

only drawback is lots of programs wont run properly on it... but thats why you have windows on another partition.

that and my mum... she uses the computer maybe once a week and got a virus.

but that was through ignorance cus she opened a bad email and ran something in it somehow.

Yup, and porn and music downloading with attached trojans and worms, since he happens to have a lack of virus and spyware protection anyways..
