Computer Gods, Diagnose My Network?

I recently upgraded to a new wireless network at home to accomodate a new laptop. It's unsecured.

The new laptop works great on the internet, everything is perfect.

Although, on the old laptop, I can sign onto any forum but can't sign into MSN messenger or hotmail. I'm not sure about other "secure" sites (like yahoo mail, or the bank) but it signs me in fine on NS.

I ran the MSN troubleshooter and it said that everything is fine. I also turned off the McCafe virus protection and disabled the windows firewall. Still no dice.

When I bought the wireless network, a wireless network USB key was included which is what I'm using. The old laptop DOES NOT have integrated wireless.

So, any ideas? Any input or ideas to try will be appreciated.

Hmm, that's the weird part. It works when I plug it directly into the internet modem, but not when I put it into the router. So obviously it's something to do with the router, but what? Especially since it's workign on my new laptop.

So, you're saying some sites are working on your old laptop, but others aren't?

What OS are you running on your host computer as well as the remote laptop? It's weird that only certain sites are working. Have you tried using both IE and Mozilla? I doubt it will make a difference but it's always worth a try.

In addition to that, there is another option that you can try using. I had to set it up to get my old Windows 98 computer operating fully with my Windows XP computers. Chances are your wireless network is using a protocol known as TCP/IP. It is very common and an easy to use protocol. There is another protocol that you can install on your computers in addition to the TCP/IP. This protocol is known as NetBEUI protocol, and it was the only way I could get my computers to work. You might want to look into installing that and see how that works.

Have you messed around with the printer and file sharing at all with your computers? Can both computers see each other? Or are you just trying to get internet connection?
