of course!!! the sport has turned trendy. look at the videos of the "pros" on this site. they all look the same doing the same tricks and thats what NS wants. if you posted an edit of new tricks withou the use of poles, you'd be ridiculed. ski for yourself, and stay clear of comps, they are run by moms and sponsor money, you may not have a chance to begin with.
