Compress files and MAC

i was wonderign wut program (free program) i can use to compress photos from my digital camera that are in my iphoto library...i have a macbookpro...and i am pretty sure there is a free program but i dno wut its called
 
make a new folder in the desktop

then select the photos in iphoto library by dragging over them, move the iphoto window so you can see the desktop and drag them to the folder you created

then option-click the folder and choose Create Archive

you can trash the folder at this point, it will not delete the pictures from iphoto
 
i should mention, no need to download anything, and that method creates a .zip file

i am assuming you are doing this to email them?
