Compartment syndrome

Okay, so Ik this is a repost but the original didn't really help me. Im taking this girl up to the mt this yr to teach her how to ski. But she has really bad Compartment syndrome in her shins. She was wondering if it would be bad for her to go ski and im wondering the same thing. Im thinking since the tounges of you boots cause pressure that it might not be a good thing. Any ideas and do you think she would be able to ski? If not maybe snowboarding will be better for her shins?

I have it really bad along the sides of my shins. I've gotten it from skiing, tele'ing, and snowboarding. Normally, it won't flare up until the 2nd or 3rd day of hard riding. Lot's of ibuprofen really helps. Other than that, the pain goes away after a couple days. No biggie unless I'm riding hard for many days in a row.

lol what kind of answer are you looking for? Take her up, if it hurts she wont do it again, if it doesnt she will be back.

She wont have compartment syndrome, compartment syndrome is a surgical emergency...your muscles are surrounded by a fibrous stuff that cant stretch. When muscles swell, for example after an injury the pressure in the compartment increases so blood cant flow into the muscles so the muscles die. If you have compartment syndrome you have about 4 hours to do take them to theatre and cut the fibre open to relieve the pressure, otherwise the muscle dies and you cant use it. She probably has shin splints or somethin, just spreadin the info! :)

this is almost 100 percent true. She is borderline on surgery because her swelling goes up and down unlike most peoples whos stay. She been to many doctors about this. For most people ur spot on but she has a weirdo complex i guess. but +k for giving a legit answer

thats y im asking dude chill. Ive heard that its bad and not bad. so i figured id ask ppl who ski and know what there talking about. why the hate?

it is almost never a good idea to try to teach your lady friends to ski

and this seems like it will make that even worse

my advice is either find one that skis or don't ski with the one you have

I hat compartment syndrome from a soccer injury and i did not need surgery. No it was not shin splints. I had them before i got the injury and compartment syndrome. I would not suggest skiing. If she keeps pushing it she will never heal.

My mother had compartment syndrome years ago, and it bothered her a lot. I would say skiing isn't going to feel good at all. Once the pressure got so bad she had trouble walking normally she got surgery to fix it.
