Comp Scene in the MIdwest

What's happened to it? Competitions have kind of faded around here since I've began skiing about 4 years ago. According to others who have been in the sport longer, there is a significant lack of comps compared to back in the day. I for one would like more contests and events around here, because of how fun they are. Anyone else feel the same?

So more comps, but no more comps? I'm just talking like big air comps mostly. Not cause I plan to win at all but they're so fun.

There was only one local big air comp last winter and it was at Tyrol on the sketchiest jump ever. We had a few boarders go into the trees. Luckily nobody got anything more than a few scratches.

I did a few "contests" this year at my local hill, i guess you just dont hear about them at all because no hill is going to spend money to advertise a contest.

The Hoofer rail jam is done each year in downtown Madison. It's a really sweet comp and I try to make it each year.

If that's what you're going for (just kidding lol) you should come to Mt. La Crosse's rail jam. It just started last year after a man and his son (used to snowboard a lot) were murdered.

There were a total of 4 skiers in the 16+ group, lol.

Top three get prizes, gift certificates, etc.

Hoping to get more people out there this year! It's normally the week before closing (after all of the races are done, they move all of the features down on the bottom of the race hill)

There are still some Comp's Midwest Open at Cascade (which used to be really good not sure how it is these days)

Tyrol Basin still has some and then all end of season events and Spring Jam (Amazing times)

my two favorite events are.

Midwest Superpark at Marquette Mountain.

and

The Big Nut Open at Chestnut mountain (Which is by far the best Comp I have ever been to in the midest)

Going on tour!

But in all seriousness I don't give two shits about winning or placing. Just like to have fun, although winning something is a nice little bonus;)

Welch, before it became the cesspool it is today, used to do a Sunset Jam slopestyle comp thing. A jump and a railset. The Welch OG's threw down at those. I never got to do one...

No seriously dude, show up. It's for a good cause and a fun time.

I'll be there and there's a few other chill skiers. The guy who wins every year is a douche.. but who cares. Its fun!

I honestly don't even know his name, he's always at Mt. lax but me and my friends avoid him

How is Powder Ridge? I'm in La Crosse and I'm trying to decide in 4 hours in the car would be worth it

I am currently working on organizing a big event at Granite to be held over Winter Break. I have the okay with the park crew, I have prizes from companies, and now just need to get the details worked out. More details to come!!!
