Common sense vs school smarts

ive made an observation over a couple years. it seems like all these very smart intellectual kids at my school (and just in general) are super smart in school such as math, act scores, analyzing literature, ect. but they legit dont have the sense to do basic tasks. like this one person i know got nearly a perfect score on the act, but cant put together a camp stove? cant even lock the ski rack???? COME ON M9! idk ns, would you rather have common sense and the 'know how' on daily tasks in the real world, or the book/school smarts?

The person who I was second behind in my class didn't know how to use a hammer and nails

I'd rather be around someone who has common sense. I could give a fuck about how you do in school. If you aren't a total idiot and you're chill then you're good by me. I've always been more book smart but having a good balance of both is solid, I think.

It's amazing how many kids can get an A+ in AP Physics but can't parallel park.

haha so true. Thought parallel parking is more hand/eye/machine coordination than anything else. Some people just straight up suck at driving

then there are all the people who have a good mix of both and all the people who are just complete idiots and suck at everything.

but really, people just call themselves street smart to make themselves feel good about sucking at school. and people call themselves book smart to make themselves feel good about having no social skills or physical coordination.

Personally, I find it unacceptable to be lacking in either. A man must know how to use a wrench, but also be able to read the directions.

This. It's all about Theoretical Reason and Practical Reason. It's not that one is better than the other, it's that both are needed. When one (or both) is missing, then you're going to run into problems.

School smarts can only take you so far Granted its VERY important to have or else you will be a moron. Street smarts is just as important if not more. Gotta be likeable and be able to sell yourself on job interviews, etc

You should invite sliced bread while your at it.

It took the guy who invented sliced bread to figure it out in terms of cutting it and keeping it good
