Commercials stealing from ski movies

is it just me, or has there been a lot of commercials lately that have been using music that has been in ski movies? for instance, i just saw a honda civic commercial using the bradon beckers song from teddy bear crisis (go team!-huddle formation) and the HP commercail using zach Ds song from safety meeting (teddgybears Stockholm-Different Sound)

don't forget about the Shampoo commercial with Emerge by Fischerspooner from Not Another Ski Movie (Random Section). ANd I think I bumped an old thread for some reason.... meh.

I am not suprised at this thread at all. Warren Miller stole a whole bunch of stuff from other movies this season.

ye def because it was the ski movies that made the music therefore they own it and when commercials use it, it's stealing. Did you think the artist could license it out to other companies as well to make money?

no, don't be a smartass, im just saying that the big corporations could try to be more original with their music selection.

ya in my area they used "The Walkmen - The Rat" from the armada promo video thing for advertisig the world series...its so weird to hear a song and not expect it to be from a ski movie

It is possible that they stole it from ski movies but do you really think that because a song that's in a commercial that was also in a ski movie means that we discovered it?

That's because ski companies control every aspect of the media, skiing and otherwise, and reusing songs means they steal 50% less from musicians.

that usually happens to "indie" stuff after it gets somewhat played out...it starts being in ski movies and car commercials.

Could be real picky and say that some ski films use same songs from other films, I have heard The Rat by "The Walkmen" in a couple of movies now...

Just because you've never heard the songs before doesn't mean that they doesn't have been used several times before they end up in a ski-movie. In fact Huddle formation was used in the big mainstream tv-show "One tree hill" before it was used in TBC, and Teddybears sthlm was played way before someone decided to put their in a ski-movie.

If you think the music is good, enjoy it no matter where or when you hear it. But I'm with you with the whole thing about songs gettin' played and mainstream, 'cause I hate that as well.

Yeah, as far as The Go! Team and Wolfmother being in commercials, I kind of think it was inevitable. Especially with those two bands, their songs have been EVERYWHERE.

This is retarded. You think that if I make a video and sell it, and a company uses the same song, they are biting my style? No. Music is music.

umm, wasn't that on the WB, last time i checked people dono't really watch that channel so that doesn't count.

maybeeeeeeee

just MAAAAAAAYBE

it has something to do with how fucking unoriginal ski movie soundtracks are?

Oh, sorry, I forgot that America is the only country in the world that counts. And that such things as exporting TV-shows to other continents doesn't exist yet. I apologize.

This certain song was also used in one of last years snowboard movies. Some songs and bands just happens to be used all over the place, things as music travels fast between people nowadays, much because of the internet and instant messaging. Just accept that you maybe was wrong regarding this subject.

On a sidenote. How big is the chance that the people behind the commercial heard the song on a mainstream TV-show? Pretty big.

How big is the chance that the people behind the commercial heard the song by watching a skimovie? Not that big.

Gotta love Internet bashing.
