They started a few years back. For the first year I am pretty sure they just collared with faction. No idea if they are good or no, my guess is that they are at least half are decent though. They make good bikes and they aren't to expensive so it is seems they made their skis a bit cheaper because they are direct to consumer, which is a kinda cool idea, if that is why there stuff isn't ridiculously expensive

They were simply re-skinned Faction Primes, nowadays they look like a unique mold. Really low pricing... not sure what is up with that...

Weird, in their park ski (which looks incredibly light btw) it says they have a rubber insert in the edges to absorb impact. Seems like marketing bs that would weaken the edges but I don't really know anything.

They're probably referring to VDS (vibration dampening system) rubber, which every ski company puts along the edge. Helps things bond and to reduce vibration.

Could also be something completely different but that's my guess.

Oh cool, I had no idea

Somebody please buy a pair and post an in-depth review. Commencal is low-key making the skis that most intrigue me this year. They're so light, and so cheap. Part of me thinks that their stated weights must be inaccurate, and another part of me wants to believe. It's also hilarious given that their bikes are so heavy. And their lineup is sorta illogical at first glance, but makes more and more sense the more you look at it.

The T.E.M.P.O. hits this awesome niche market of folks who skin inbounds and ski back down groomers. It's stupid light, perfect for everyone on the uphill pass, but no real backcountry skiing program.

The Clash is hypothetically, by the stats, in the ballpark for a lightweight do-everything touring ski.

And the Absolut is a 1300g park ski, which, in my book, means it's a ski mountaineering ski for newschoolers.

I want more info, SO BAD. I keep being tempted to buy a pair, just out of curiosity. They might suck, but will they suck enough to make me regret spending $450 on a 1300g ski? Probably not? The suspense is killing me!

im currently saving up for the park version of the commensal ski ill ride it hard for a week or two and give an honest in-depth review if I remember.

Hello, actually made an account to reply to this post. Bought a pair of clashes last fall as I was intrigued by the price point of the skis 188cm. The are indeed incredibly light and playful. So far they are holding up pretty well, about as well as any other ski. If there is something else you'd like to know about the skis please don't hesitate to ask !

Update: Bought the Clash in a 170 for a do it all touring ski for my partner. First impressions are really good. 1520g per ski, good build quality, smart rocker profile, fun flex. Can't wait to hear what she thinks of them.

Update #2

She's skied two days on them. First day was funky snow and basically no vert, along with being first day back on skis, wasn't able to really get a read on them, but wasn't stoked on them. Day two was 18ish inches of pow, with some chop. Came down saying she was stoked on them in the pow, but as soon as she was on firm snow they got really squirly and unpredictable. Went home, threw a flat bar across them and one ski was suuuuper cupped. Like, a few mm of daylight in the middle of the base. Took them to a shop, got them ground, hopefully will be better. She'll probably write a full review for NS once she's had a few more days on 'em.

But, if you have a pair of Commencal skis, and they feel like shit, check the tune, could be that simple!

Sounds worth it to me. How much did the grounding cost?
