Come on Sessions...

Selling out to Samsung?

Great core brand to compliment Fubu, Married to the Mob, and True Religion shoes.

This will most likely suck for all of the core shops that have been with them for years... "improved distribution" was cited as a major initiative.

Honestly, I don't see much changing other than the financial backer for the company.

"Scotts Valley, CA, June 25, 2009- Sessions, a recognized leader in snow

sports apparel since 1983, announced that it has sold its brand and

trademark rights to Sessions, LLC, a newly formed company, which will

continue to design, market and distribute action sports apparel under

the Sessions brand name. The Company is based in Scotts Valley, CA and

includes amongst its new shareholders, Samsung America, Inc., which

will assume logistical and financial duties. Joel Gomez and Cindi

Busenhart, founder and president, respectively, of Sessions, will move

to the new entity and be responsible for all design, merchandising,

production, sales and marketing. The partnership will allow the Company

to take advantage of the Samsung’s strong financial support to secure

production and accounts receivable financing. Additionally, Sessions

will utilize Samsung’s warehousing and distribution facilities as well

as world class inventory systems.
While details of the transaction were

not revealed, management stated that product quality and customer

service should not be affected. “Even in these difficult times, Cindi

and I felt strongly that, with the right business model and team, we

could capitalize on over 20 years of experience and brand equity” said

Joel Gomez in a statement. “Cindi and I have great confidence in the

viability of this brand. We have a strong and experienced team and with

Samsung as a partner, we now have the necessary capital to assure a

smooth transition and continued success.”

Sounds like a good move to me. They continue to run the company how they want, but their support/financial/distribution teams are going to be significantly better.

Improving distribution? Does this mean we'll see them at Dick's and other sporting goods stores that don't give a shit about skiers?

probably not because their target market is not buying sessions gear at dicks.

It just means that they should have more efficient delivery to the retail/online stores who already sell their gear. Everyone on NS has seen the headache that delayed product delivery can result in.

before this deal happened, they were going bankrupt... money wasn't getting paid, and i thought i was going to have to find a new clothing sponsor for sure. i would soooo much rather have sessions in business with more money and resources than being "core" and bankrupt... joel is still in charge, so sessions is still going to be the shit!

If they are keeping the same owner then what changed besides distribution is increasing? This sounds like a really good thing because it will be easier to find sessions jackets and they will still be sick, or am I missing something?

all this stupid core talk is wack. you do what you have to do to stay in business. go preach youre self righteous "core" morals from your garage run t shirt company's blog.

Sick Stickz is super core, like the most core company ever...we don't even have a garage to run the business out of. In all seriousness I think Sessions made a good move. Maybe Samsung will buy Sick Stickz. $$$$ talks!

I could very well be wrong but in this case the most logical conclusion

to draw from "improving and increasing distribution" would be for the

newly formed company to throw all of these clothes in a bigger box

heading to a discount department type store (ie TJ Maxx etc where the

other brands are already sold). Is that where the current Sessions

shopper goes- no but the product could easily be scaled down and sold

at a discount for greater margins.

Perhaps "core" wasn't the correct term but maybe the smaller retailers

who actually sell the corresponding hard goods and rely on the higher

margins of premium outerwear. All I was trying to say was I hope it doesn't hurt their current retailers who have been nothing but supportive.

Either way it's great they are keeping a presence in skiing. The

disclosure on any of the websites was very limited so thanks for

filling in some of the blanks.
