I decided to write a little response to that thread about the study saying white people are on average "smarter" than black people.

i dont find this racist at all. no one is in an uproar

over scientific studies that say hassidic jews are the smartest group

of people.

there are differences in race, you cant ignore it.

the differences are pretty meaningless, because if you think about it,

who the fuck cares if white people are on average smarter than black

people. this is just an average, there are still plenty of stupid

white people, and plenty of smart black people. it doesnt mean that

suddenly if youre a smart black person you are not as smart as a white

person. its just an average. oh, and you can say its just due to unequal educational opportunities, which is probably true, but it doesnt change the fact that this guy is presenting a fact.

the reason racism exists so much is race is actually coded into our subconscious thoughts. light skin has and is the standard of beauty in the world. this stems from the fact that lighter skin traditionally meant less exposure to the sun, which signified status and desireability. a light skinned person wasnt working in the fields all day. you can see this for yourself in paintings from antiquity, or how the japanese believed they were superior because they are the lightest skinned race. or how any rap music video has mostly biracial girls with lighter skin. or how anime has white people even though its japanese. also women with more fat on them used to be considered attractive, again a status symbol. now we like em thin and tan, which is again a type of status symbol because now the majority of people are chubby and pale. oh and lets not forget straight hair, thats another thing too.

I am not a racist at all, you might think so from what I have written but if we get past the terrible stigma of racism we can actually look at things like educated, unbiased, realistic people, instead of the heard of PC uproarists that seem to compete over who can get the most outraged. these differences I mentioned are pretty meaningless, I see gorgeous black girls and hideous white girls. I dont treat people any differently, and I dont believe that white people are better just because white features are the standard of beauty (for women at least)
 
100% agreed, I'm really fed up with minorities that are always on the defensive, that always feel attacked for no reason
 
i dunno what the big racism deal is all about, we're all the exact same colour on the inside!
 
Giving a bunch of random people Iq tests won't prove which race is smarter. as I said in the other thread, there are way too many extraneous variables to even begin to test this thesis.
 
what pisses me off. all this equality babble and affirmative action. by giving them a 'handicap' which is basically what it is, they are announcing inequaloty
 
well affirmative action is a different story my friend. its not admitting they are inferior, its saying things arent equal, which they arent

I would much rather be middle class and white and live in the suburbs than be poor and black, go to a school that is basically like prison, and get affirmative action. just think about it dude. I think its a miracle if inner city black kids make it through school where intellectualism is spit upon with good grades and dont turn to slangin (real easy money) or drop out or whatever.
 
It's racist if it implies that white people are smarter than black people BECAUSE they're black. When society places a certain ethnic group decidedly within the ranks of the poor and uneducated, the statistics are going to reflect that.
 
Well the reason minorities feel attacked is because they still are being attacked today. Do you know what it's like being a black man in America these days? I have so many black friends who admit to overplaying the race card, but they still deserve the right to throw it up because every time they go into a store they are watched closely. They are still not given the same amount of respect that white people get. But then again it pops up the question-- is it right to be scared that a black person is going to steal from your store if black people have stolen from it before? Yes, I know white people steal too, but that's not the point. It still happens today that a black person that steals is looked at differently than a white person that does.

And it's really fucked up question to try to answer.
 
The only problem is that affirmative action doesn't take into consideration when things are equal or not. It only takes into consideration race and gender. A black kid from the suburbs gets the same advantages as a black kid from the hood. I knew a kid that had a second house in the Hamptons, carried a Louis Vuitton briefcase and went to a private high school. Why does he deserve extra help to get into college? He had WAY more opportunities than I did.

Then, theres the kid from the hood that got all B's, did mediocre on his ACT but still gets into the university because of affirmative action. Do you think that kid is really prepared to go to a top tier university? I wasn't prepared AT ALL for college and I went to a high school that was probably way better than most inner city schools.

Last year, their was a proposal to abolish affirmative action in Michigan. A lot of people were trying to make it seem like you were a racist if you supported the proposal, but really it was the opposite. Affirmative action is practically the DEFINITION of racism.

 
i really think it has everything to do with culture and standardized testing.  i mean.. standardiuzed tests, or IQ tests werer created by WASP's, or maybe just white psychologists.  but case in point.  they are totally 100% culturally biased.  And while you may be correct, and the statistics may show as much.. there are a shit ton of other factors that go ignored.   like the huge dispute over the actual definition of the word "intelligience"  and what it incorprates.. as well as the unreliabilaty of intelligience tests.  

Finally, when all scores for "intelligience" are normally distributed, disregarding race, the distribution would look exactly like if only white people were distributed on one graph, and only black people on another... that is  most everyone somewhere in the middle and a few at each extreme. 
 
excellent point. I think affirmative action should just be for poor people, if anyone. my asian friend got into va tech and I didnt, and we had identical classes, gpa, and extracurriculars. I had a better sat though. and he doesnt need affirmative action

but some people get so enraged over affirmative action. I am confident enough in my own abilities that I dont feel my college or job future is threatened by it
 
Nationally, whites and asians do better on the SAT than blacks and hispanics. Its been like that since the test was first administered.

So are some races smarter than others? I doubt it. The physical differences in the human species are small, unlike other genuses, like canines, where there is an observed 'relative intelligence' for different breeds. So are asians really smarter than the average person? The statistics dont lie (even though the SAT is most assuredly NOT a test of intelligence). We observe these differences because on average, a random white child will have better education, better standard of living... I could go on and on, they have advantages in every category.

To believe that its a physical difference is racist. Its vital to understand that on average, certain races have more advantages, which explains a lot of the classical stereotyping we see. As far as affirmative action, I'm not touching that one.

Intelligence, like most everything else tested and used as a standard, is a reletive thing. If you take a look at many native American IQ test and examinations there are questions used to guage their intelligence based on which side of the tree moss grows on. Why? because its relevent to their culture and way of life. In that same context take a native American and give him an IQ test based on the standards we're used to of course they'll score lower. Does that make them less intelligent then a white male? who can say, does that make Native Americans les sintelligent then other cultures in general? absolutly not. Taking things out of context and putting them in perspective is always crucial to understanding tough subjects such as these that are often open to interperetation.
 
ummm have you ever seen some of these racially biased standardized test questions? there is nothing even close to that. knowing facts (like which side of a tree moss grows on) is not anything even related to intelligence.

I have seen some of these so-called culturally biased questions that appeared on SATs and SOLs and its a major stretch. any smart person wouldnt be confused by them.
 
haha...on the psat this weekend if you were any race besides black u automatically were entered in the national merit thing idk what it is but if u were black u had to fill on a circle if u wanted to be on it... i thought it was funny
 
what spank_monkey means.. i think, or at least what i mean.. is that other cultures have hugely different views on intelligience.  and no, intelligience is not what you get on your SAT.  to really measure intelligience, a one on one culture specific, spoken, and written test must be administered.  if you have ever taken college level psychology classes you will know all about standardized testing and the argument over intelligience and its true defininition.  what you get on your SAT is a measure of what youve learned in school (mind you school is by no means the real world), and is also usually a good predictor of how you will do your first year  n college.  nothing more.

intelligience is not what youve learned in  school but how well you function in the world and with your environment.  so this argument is pretty retarted... for someone who grew up in the ghetto, with less opportunity for a good education, intelligience probably means something TOTAlly different then to us.  
 
see I disagree. I got better SATs than a lot of hard-worker type girls

who had 4.0s and thats because, as I always knew, I was smarter than

them. i am a man so I dont work very hard at stuff like school.

SAT's are not a measure of intelligence or aptitude. They're just a standardized test that tests you on how well you can take standardized tests.
 
standardized test taking is a good measure of intelligence in my opinion. it requires logic and reasoning, the two most important parts of intelligence.

everyone I know who is smart did well on their SATs, everyone who I know isnt that smart didnt do that great. I would say thats a pretty good indicator of intelligence then. but I know, you cant actually measure intelligence, but its the closest way to.
 
Hah well that's just a giant load of crap. They aren't called the Standardized APTITUDE Tests for nothing. It's a reasoning test...it shows your ability to figure/reason things out without necessarily having ever learned any of it.
 
No. A standardized test is a terrible way of measuring intelligence. In fact, numerous studies have proven that the SAT is a better predictor of your race, gender and household income than your GPA.

I know plenty of idiots who have a 4.0. I also know a lot of complete tools who can get great standardized test scores. You cannot accurately call a person smart or stupid based on a SAT score.
 
Your argument has validity sure enough, but just understand where Im coming from when I mean intelligence. I'm not arguing for or against standardized testing as a meausre of intelligence. Im arguing their applicability outside of the culture/ race/ ethnicity for which their best suited. Thats where I raised the point of the naitve American IQ tests. You just rashly asserted that knowing which side of a tree moss grows on has no basis in intelligence. Im saying that to you it doesn't, but to a Native American whose lifestyle depends on this certain type of knowledge (and im by no measn asserting that this is the case with every Native, this is simply for example's sake) this sort of information is reletive, much less applicable. How mind you does this relate to the thread topic? Im arguing that the cross examination between cultures and ethnicties with a standardized test for one specifig group (Which SAT's and IQ tests are for uppder middle class to well off people) is a poor judgement on whether or not one group is "smarter then another" Alleskier was correct with her example of the ghetto kid. His lifestyle is very much different then that of you or I... im assuming you don't live in the ghetto... but he deserves the same right to higher education, its difficult though when the test which detirmines it is geared to someone like you or I.
 
affirmative action is supposed to be only temporary to make up for slavery, inequality in the past, and other shit. the government is supposed to end it once they feel that it has been in effect long enough.
 
it might sound asshole-ish, but I agree with supachronic. i could always tell that i was smarter than certain people, regardless of the grades they got in school. when i took the act, i initially didnt score higher than some of these people. i figured something must have gone wrong with the test, so i retook it and scored considerably better. no studying, no extra preparation. many of these people expressed opinions of shock when they found out about my score relative to their own, but i was never surprised. I always knew the people who scored higher than me were smarter than me and those who scored lower were not. and i'm not talking about only "book smarts" here. it seems like there has always been some sense of intuition as to the overall intelligence of others relative to my own. my experience has shown me that standardized tests only reaffirm this intuition.
 
no no you misunderstood me, I am not saying knowing which side of a tree moss grows on is useless, I am saying that is not intelligence. thats knowledge. knowing random facts about high school musical is knowledge also, but it sure as hell doesnt mean legions of pre-teen girls are smart. you are born with intelligence, you can nurture it to some extent.

"someone who lives in the ghetto deserves just as much chance" couldnt agree more, unfortunately even if these tests are culturally biased, which I dont believe, ghetto people have to learn the culture of white people to succeed. you dont go to a real job wearing huge baggy pants and a tall tee, and if you speak ghetto-ish at a job interview I believe they have every right not to hire you.

my culture involves smoking pot and treating life as a joke. would I bring that into the workplace and expect to succeed? fuck no
 
Well...the study that says white people are more intelligent than black people is retarded, because it is based on IQ testing and standardized testing. Like Rowen said, standardized tests measure how well you can take a standardized test, not your intelligence, and that's why its completely ridiculous what the study supposedly "proves" because its total bullshit.
 
i hate the double standard

for example, when the british sailors were abducted by the iranians, they made that women where a muslim head garb, and also denounce what the british were doing in the region. and yet all the white anglo saxons remain quiet. if we did this to a muslim they would be up in arms.

those british sailors folded faster then a deck of cards. if the iranians were going to make me do that i would have told them to fuck themselves. what the hell would they do to me? nothing, because if 15 sailors were caught then 15 are going to come back and if that doesn't happen then there would be hell to pay. i guess the sailors forgot that.
 
its not really a double standard. we have to be better than IRAN. china gets away with executing people and harvesting their organs (this is seriously true) does that mean we should?

also I kinda doubt they had that attitude, considering resisting might mean getting your ass beaten pretty bad

There are certain demographics that are on average, different than others in one way or another. Demographic is key. You could say that people from the inner city are on average, smarter than people from less populated areas. That's no different that saying whites are smarter than blacks.

We will categorize people any way we can to come up with these stats, whether its income, location, race, sex, whatever. When you say something like that its not a racist statement, it's just how we view things. We group things in as many ways as possible, thats how the brain works. We put people into groups to say things about them. We memorize a phone number in sets of 3 or 4 digits. That's how the human brain works, and its the only way to make some statements about 6 billion people.

Fact: A recent study suggests that on average, Jews are not as smart as Native Americans.

Racist Comment: All Jews are dumber than posts.

See the difference?

There are ideas that are really just a way of analyzing the world we live in, and there are blatantly ignorant statements designed to be demeaning or insulting to a specific race.
 
how is a test that says white people are more intelligent than black people retarded. its what the tests showed. there is no arguing it. the test didn't say that whites are smarter than blacks because they are white, just that they ON AVERAGE scored higher on standarized tests and by that the study indicated that whites were indeed ON AVERAGE smarter.

It's all about the opurtunities you are given and what you choose to do with them and make of yourself. the black culture has fucked itself over in general in this sense. Not saying that white people aren't stupid, we have a problem with whites associating with the "hick" genre at my school, and these kids are all about trucks and mudding and getting inebriated and showin up to school late.

i guess this is true in everything. but goddamn, i'm kinda lost. i hope my point comes across.

for instance here in toronto, a judge ordered that christmas tree be put in the back halls of a court house because it could offend others, but what about the christians that celebrate christmas? why do we have to bend over backwards all the time while other religions and races get what they want. why would a group of white guys that beat up a black kid get charged for a hate crime while a group of black kids that beat up a white kid get charged with assault. that is the double-standard.

and no i wouldn't say fuck you to a cop, because i must have did something wrong to get arrested in the first place....

the british were prisoners and under the geneva convention that aren't allowed to be beat. and secondly i would gladly take a beating then admit that what my country was doing was wrong. also, its called politics. why would i freak out? they are going to have to release me sooner or later because of diplomatic pressure. they aren't going to return the sailors less one. this isn't 1979 anymore.

Ok i guess what I was trying to say is that the fact that this study says that white people are more intelligent than black people is stupid because all it is based on is standardized testing. What the study should say is, white people are better at taking standardized tests than black people.
 
Exactly. Back to the SAT analogy, your score does relate to your households average income. There are too many other factors in a standardized test that can upset the results for it to be a valid measure of anything, except ones ability to take the test itself. And by the way, guess who creates the test questions for the SAT.... rich white guys. Funny how rich white (or now asian) kids can do well on it.
 
i HATE affirmative action. my girlfriend's roommate is a black girl from new york, and she's an awful student with the worst study habits and is extremely dumb (not to mention she's incredibly awkward and annoying). despite this, she, has gotten a nearly full scholarship for her college education. why? because she's black. she's not a good student, she hasn't done anything special to benefit society, all she did was be born to a black family. and because of that reason alone, she has gotten tens of thousands of dollars for college. my girlfriend is an incredibly intelligent girl who has a great academic resume including extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and excellent grades. what kind of scholarship did she get? about $1,000.why? because she's white. it's completely unreasonable to base a scholarship purely on race. base it on academic achievement. got no money? financial aid. i realize blacks have been unfairly treated in the past, and i'm not racist at all, but how long do we have to make up for mistakes in the past?
 
Well you definately have grounds to write that paper on, and thats quite an unstable topic. Gotta give you props for standing your ground on this.

ok basically fuck racists my step dad is black and i have to half sisters that are half black they are younger than me by a bit but i lived with my step dad from when i was like 4-19 hes a smart as dude too. he knows how to make money for himself and how to start a few small businesses that rake in the cash. i grew up with a half black family cousins grandparents the whole deal. people look at my pictures on here or sometimes see me wearing a little more gangster clothes than i should or bumpin some hard rap music well im sorry im no wigger thats just how i grew up. i was listen to rakim and all the old school rappers when i was 4 years old lol. anways that doesnt really have to do with what your talkin about other than the fact that i hate racists and if some racist shit ever happened to my step dad or sisters i would not hesitate to PULL THE FUCKIN HEAT. haha
