Colorado's snowfall prediction for 14' season: La Nada

You realize winter is 3 months away right? They cant predict weather accurately outside of 1 week.
 
they can see trends once weather patterns return to the "winter" phase, like a high pressure ridge over CO for a month is usually a sort of accurate prediction. But now? yeah no one has any idea
 
Anything they predict now is a wild guess, patterns can change in 24h. I'm just over kids posting threads that predict weather for the winter, because they're literally hype machines for their website, theyre not accurate.
 
people love to say stupid shit about what is going to happen in winter, but its only july. The only thing we can say for sure is that it will probably snow at some point in colorado this winter.
 
ok the article isnt half bad. But OP you didnt even read it. The La Nada means neither el nino or la nina, which the author goes on to say means "anything can happen", not no snow will fall. He isn't even making a prediction.
 
for real. they can barely predict the weather even the same day. hell, take today for example...the national weather service had my area listed for 100% chance of rain earlier today.....it never rained. I would love to be a meteorologist. in no other profession can you be wrong that often and still have a job. if i fucked up like the weather man does, the IRS & SEC would be breathing down my neck.

i would trade places with a colorado skier in a second, even on a year with below-average snowfall. colorado's below-average ski season is still 2 months longer than a good new york ski season. you will still probably have some good pow days anyway.
 
HP123 was the same person who made the thread about colorado's snowpack being shitty, all I have to say is us in Colorado, even with a bad season will have anything better then the east coast by a long shot. Stop bitching about it, it could be worse a lot worse.
 
The article isn't about specific weather or above/below average snow, it just says it's not likely to be an El Nino or La Nina year which he then mentions makes long term forecasting pretty much entirely unpredictable.

When Joel Gratz speaks of snow, I listen. Dude's a weather beast!
 
weather is different than climate. weather is short term climate is long term. Yes, weather can not be predicted very far ahead. Climate, however, can be SOMEWHAT predicted. Emphasis on somewhat because these predictions are not very accurate because we have no perfect or near perfect models of the earths systems. Things like el nino or la nina can be predicted in advanced but there is no telling how long the trends will last or how strong the trends will be. It is still a lot of guesswork but they can predict general trends fairly far out

My guess is no one actually read the article which went on to explain that "La Nada" means that there will not be a strong El Niño or La Niña pattern, so it will be hard to predict snowfall patterns, meaning it will likely be an average year for Colorado.
 
They are proving water temperature forecasts, not necessarily a weather/snowfall forecast. The two have correlation though so it's understandable why they would mention it.
 
Haha YES!!! I've been looking everywhere for this sticker. Do you know who originally made it? I was wondering if they would mind if I ripped it off and made some of my own die cuts.
