Colorado's ignorance angers me.

Seriously missing real snow. 3 to 4 inch storms aren't that awesome.
Anyway, this place has been pissing me off lately. Everyone here rags on California soooooo fucking hard. Yet no one seems to have ever been. Even had someone say they would rather ski 3 inches of colorado snow than 3 feet of California's... I really just want to yell at people all the time and tell them they are stupid and don't know what they are talking about.
Sorry for my rant. I miss digging my car out.

Why don't you just start trolling the numerous breck vs keystone threads with snow totals of tahoe resorts. Or post kirkwoods forecast. My friends ski summit county and don't have a fucking clue. Truthfully I was pretty clueless until I moved out here from co and now that I've seen the light I think breck is terrible.

Tahoe has amazing amounts and quality of snow, they also have the best terrain in the US IMO. I do think that jackson hole has the single best mountain terrain but Tahoe has SOOOOOOOOOO many amazing resorts with gratuitous amounts of powder.

What it really boils down to is park rats from the east coast see the hornbeck, ahmet edits from keystone and think that the only thing the west has to offer is bigger and better parks. Don't get me wrong it peoples ignorance pisses me off concerning the amount of snow and terrain but it also makes me happy. I never want to see any of my friends from Summit county out here riding. They couldn't keep up anymore because the terrain has made me that much better. Not only that they won't appreciate it.

I fucking love California so much.

This is last weekend. Try and find my glove.
Pretty hard to sink that deep in "wet" snow. Also I came from skiing colorado 45+ days a year.

I've been here all season... I've had some good powder days... A lot of them actually, but nothing like the storms in California. I can't speak for places like Wolfcreek and Monarch that get 30 inches from a storm.
And deep snow? ummm pretty sure every mountain is covered in deep snow... with the 100 inch bases and all. Sometimes the powder is heavier... but I'm just going to throw this out there and say that pretty much ALL the early season storms before January were heavier in Colorado. Most of the days since have been around 3 to 4 inch storms with the blower powder... but what am I supposed to do with 3 to 4 inches?

I've dealt with Utah and Colorado snow snobs for years now... its no big deal to me anymore because I just roll my eyes and go enjoy my longer season, larger storms, bigger cliffs, steeper lines, and BETTER snow.
Fuck your dry snow... if you cant ski tahoe/west coast pow, you suck at skiing as far as i'm concerned...

you want massive dumps go for the sierras. You want really big snow go mammoth. I dont give a fuck what anyone says we definitely got as much or more than squaw this year.

You're probably right..

Mammoth measures snow close to the base at the Sesame St. snow study site.

Mammoth's base is at 8K.

The top of the mtn is at 11K.

Squaw measures at its base and at upper mtn.

Squaw's base is at 6.2K

Squaw's upper mtn measurement is at 8.2K.

Top of Squaw (Granite Chief) is around 9K.

eastern sierras are super high. Best backpacking in the sierras is in southern Yosemite and the mammoth lakes/bishop areas. All above 10k feet.

California has the two highest peaks in the continental USA...suck on that Colorado!

Squaw isn't even that high in elevation... It's not even the highest in Tahoe - especially lift accessed - not even close.

I know the feeling all too well. I moved from Utah (Snowbird) to Vail for a new job.

I just have to laugh when people talk about how "EPIC!" a 6" storm is. People here have no idea what a powder day is. Or what it feels like to make bottomless turns, and not listen to the ice crunching underneath. I rode 120+ days this season. And I don't remember a single day where the snow was deeper than my knees.

that's weird, cuz i've only skied about 40 days this season, mostly in colorado and I've skied at least 5 days that were thigh deep in CO. The two deepest were definitely at Sugar Bowl when I skied with Sean and at Squaw though.

The Sierra Cement term comes from the overall heavier and wetter snow of the Sierras. Funny that you're picking on Colorado when it's California that picks on Colorado the most by simply saying that the slightly heavier snow totals in the Sierras make the skiing better than Colorado, this is just as stupid as the Sierra Cement "myth". Look Sierra snow is heavier and wetter, that's a fact but this doesn't mean that the snow is bad. Why is it okay for you to say Colorado is wrong and you are not? It's all just opinions.

I know many Californians and Tahoe skiers who say Colorado skiing sucks and gets no snow, and most of them have never skied in Colorado anyways. So why is this okay? Colorado snow is powder, and the Sierras are mostly heavier packed powder, neither is better, just preferred by personal opinion. But why is Colorado wrong, and you're right?

Also Colorado did not start the Sierra Cement "myth" it has been around for ages. Stop blaming Colorado simply because you disagree with people's opinions here!

Also there's more to Colorado than just summit county, Wolf Creek ski area gets close to 500 inches of snow a year in Southwestern Colorado. Loveland gets 400 + inches, and Silverton gets 450 inches. Utah does not average 500 inches a year, just Alta and Solitude do. Only Big sky MT, and Jackson Hole WY average 500 inches in those two states as well. Why is it okay to say MT, UT, and WY average 500 inches just because the most popular resorts in those states do, and not the whole states in General? This is just like saying Colorado averages 300 inches just because Summit county does, and the other resorts that do average around 500 inches in Colorado don't matter? You realize that Summit County isn't the only ski area in Colorado right? It seems that you are just mad because Colorado has a defense to the California comments about Colorado being worse because of less snow. It's all subjective!

Actually California only has the highest mountain in the US, not the two highest. In fact Colorado has the 2nd 3rd and 4th highest mountains in the USA. Overall Colorado is much higher than California.

SUCK ON THAT CALIFORNIA!!!!!!

Seriously? Everyone knows that there is powdery snow in places in California. The point is that only 10 inches of powder on 80 inches of ice isn't that great!

Get over yourselves California!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can dish it out but you can't take it!!!

I live in Utah now, same situation

people tell me about "the greatest Snow on earth" and then when they get super stoked over 5 inches I'm just left feeling disappointed

California gets consistent deep snow, and here they struggle to cover tall grass

This, its perfection

Also, Josh.Meader seems a little but hurt,

you're whining so hard your blowing the champagne powder into nebraska

i lived in tahoe for years and skied more pow in colorado the i ever did in tahoe this year, ya inbounds in co does not fill in as well but the BC stays deep and cold, and the frontside of most CO mountains dont load, so they dont ski nearly as deep, but ya CO sucks, and i have never heard anyone hate on cali here, just people that want to visit or travel their

So you're saying that CO has great skiing but it sucks? Your logic is not working here.

I grew up in CA and have lived in CO for 6 years now, which is longer than most kids viewing this thread have even been skiing. Both CA and CO are awesome for different reasons and this thread needs to die because I said so and I'm the sock jesus.

that was sarcastic their both great for different reasons, summit skiing gives CO a bad rap is what im trying to get at

werd. summit in bounds sucks besides A Basin, lake chutes at breck, and a few runs at copper. rest of CO has some crazy in bounds.

Op hit the nail. I grew up in cali and now I'm out in colorado, everything on the front range is about as steep as flat star. Seriously, Abay has got to be the steepest mountain in the summit county area and it doesn't get any steeper than the shoots at mount rose. I was kind of disappointed, especially with the last two seasons summit county has got hardly any snow.

Best In-bounds at CO is CB. Hands down. (at least for terrain)

Summit parks are sweet, but there is nothing terrain or location specific that limits that. The popularity is somewhat annoying at this point having lift lines on weekdays.

For snow, Steamboat does well with the light stuff, though the terrain can get old.

The CA vs CO snow argument will never end cause everyones opinion is skewed and biased. I can say CO has been absolute shit for snow the past few seasons except for Steamboat this year.

Having skied in both, worked in both, etc..........I'm moving back to Mammoth.

take notes from the Pacific Northwest and just tell everyone it sucks. Skiing is no time for local allegiances, because if you're convincing enough, then you'll end up with Colorado crowds. And fuck that

You're talking to the wrong people, most of which probably aren't natives (not a claim, just saying). And even for natives it has always been known that CA has a sort of "rivalry" with CO, for whatever reasons or maybe none really... so you're bound to hear shit like that. I love skiing CO but I know it's not exactly satisfying my pow cravings seeing as I don't really ski park, but hey, I love when nowhere in the entire country gets any snow because there's no storm systems around but we wake up with a random 3-5 inches of fresh (which I can have plenty fun with in the right places) because of our crazy weather patterns that are some of the most unpredictable in the country.

In case this isn't already obvious, CO is a VERY smug state, how many other states do you see have a ton clothing brands that all plaster the CO flag on everything? haha

I love this state, but I wouldn't mind moving away from it to ski some real DEEP. If it fit with my current college/career plans I totally would, but it doesn't sadly..

It's weird seeing people take so much pride in their state. Growing up in Wisconsin nobody reps the state that hard compared to CO and CA.

I rep nebraska at kirkwood pretty hard. That's probably why most people think I'm a kook.

California sucks, don't bother coming. It only rains and when it does snow it's only sierra cement. The photo I posted 2 years ago was photoshopped and my rant was sarcasm.

All jokes aside I can't wait to hear the breck crowds scream peak 6 competes with tahoe terrain.

The lolz will be flowing when that happens.

Hahahaha. This thread.

Yep, I was totally wrong. Colorado is pretty much the best place to ski in the world. No need to go anywhere else ever.

Yes, I agree, if YOU come here that's where YOU should go. You'll probably find it extremely challenging.

In all reality I like Colorado, I think A basin and BC have some GREAT terrain (obviously southern CO T ride and the Butt, Aspen do too), it just doesn't snow enough most years to ski it most of the season. Also if you're venturing outside of resorts have fun with the worst snow pack in the united states. That's honestly my biggest complaint.

That's where I went to college.

Sorry that I had the foresight to put an engineering degree ahead of my ski passion for a few years.
