I'm planning on ski bumming in colorado at the end of this year for around 3 months, around how much should I expect to pay for rent if I turn up around mid December??? If anyones got a room they could rent me around then it'd be sick, but ++karma to anyone that can at least give me an idea of how much it should cost. Cheers!!

Im also gonna be in CO then. But as a general guide rent should be close to $500 a month. just keep looking on craigslist ect. Probably the best place for mid-longer term rentals.

Your not at Otago Uni by any chance are you? Just see that your in Otago/Dunedin

mint, pretty expensive but what are you going to do? na bro I live in Wanaka, working full time building to save up the cash to ski bum hahaha. where are you goin to be sliding?

go sit on a dick, retard. I would post there except it hardly ever gets a reply, i just want a quick answer.

Oh sick man, yeah im from Wanaka but in Dunedin for uni. Wanaka for holidays and weekends in winter though. Probably b riding Cardies most of the time, cheapest pass.

And to the guy that said regionals..... no one even goes in there in summer.

only 3 months? ur looking at least $700 a month in breck or vail. and for a lease that short prob the same in any other ski town in CO. its also a huge pain in the ass to find a room at any price. but if the economy continues to be in the shiiter it will probably be easier to find one.

What he said. Finding a place that time of year for only three months is going to be hard. Where exactly are you looking to stay? People put their Time-Shares up for renting a lot around that time, but it can all be pretty pricey seeing as CO is a big vacation spot that time of year...

im keen to stay in the breck/vail area, was planning on getting an epic pass. would it be better to try and find a campervan or something as an alternative? would it be easy to find one around then for under $2000ish??

i was looking at rentals/leases earlier today and i'd say the median price is about $600-$700 a month around breck/dillon

I'm not sure what campervan's go for, but that wouldn't be a bad idea... especially if you're going to buy an epic pass and will be traveling from mountain to mountain. I would also look into the other season passes Colorado offers seeing as the Epic Pass is the most expensive. And you may find that Breck/Keystone is plenty enough mountain for you. Check out http://www.snow.com. Otherwise, you could always apply for a part-time position being a ski instructor at a mountain and perhaps get some hook-ups for living etc.
Hope that helps and good luck to you. You'll have a blast! Colorado is full of friendly people.

im at 320 w/o utillities so im around 450 all said and done in the winter. But im also not in summit county. rent will be cheaper outside of summit. There are alot of great mountains out here, come out and look around.

Seems like finding a few months during the prime season is not going to be that easy. Better lock in before getting out to CO.

try looking in the smaller surrounding towns for prospective 3 month roomies. Avon, Georgetown, Silverthorn, Dumont, Bakerville etc...

If no luck by Oct, PM me and you're more than welcome to surf my couch up and down the denver metro area. Its not ideally close, but better than nada :D

go to Utah, SLC area there are something like 8 resorts with in a half hour driving distance and its less expensive. PC has a quality park and apparently so does Alta and Canyons. Avoid Deer Valley like a cancer.

If anyone can offer me a room/couch or whatever for $550/month or under in the Breck/Keystone area i'd jump on it and even make an extra deposit or something for the favour.

Or if anyone can hook me up with contacts etc that might help id be stoked. just super desperate to ski in the states because i missed out on the last NZ season after a season ender and also couldn't do a trip to Canada for the season that i was planning because of the injury.

I know people that pay as little as 400, but I would say 500-600 is pretty standard. It will be tough to just arrive in Summit and find a room for 3 months, start searching on craigslist in july/august and get in contact with some people. Good luck man, CO is sick! Hope this helps.

I'll agree with you on Georgetown, but you've clearly not spent enough time in Colorado to be reccommending places for people to live. I live in Silverthorne a fair amount of the year (and have for the last 6 or so years) and can say that it has some of the best priced housing that are close enough to resorts. I wouldn't live in Wisconsin at your home resort if someone PAID me to.

Hey man, I can't help that I was born there. I wouldn't live there again either if someone paid me to! Hahaha.
And I totally did not mean to add Silverthorne. I copy and pasted what he said and just meant to get Georgetown in there, haha! It was a quick post. MY BAD!
Silverthorne is a great area, I'd live there.

go camp in the parking lot at Suicide Six in vermont for 3 months... place is soo legendary. keep it east for sure

if you're trying to save cash, ski as much as possible, and be in a central location to most spots, i'd check out dillon or silverthorne. both spots are going to be cheaper than breck and if you're in dillon you're literally 5 minutes down the road from keystone and 10 from a-basin. plus you're still relatively close to breck too if you want to ski there. there's the summit stage which is the free public bus system that will probably suck to ride, but again, it's free.

also, living in georgetown would be the equivalent to eating fresh poo for breakfast. don't live in georgetown.

In 2000 I ended up house sitting for some folks in Vail for the winter. I was in school in Boulder and over coffee etc 2-3 times a week they eventually came to know me as a genuine, honest and kind soul and when they talked about their South America trip in the winter, i offered to house sit and they gave me they key. I am a neat freak and their house was cleaner when they got back, and the result was I got emails for the next two years from other folks who wanted me to stay, but the sadness of a career set in and couldn't go back except for brief vacations.

You're fine, I just really don't think its comparable to Georgetown haha. It's not as good location-wize as being at the base of a mountain, but given that he's looking for inexpensive housing I figured that would be one of the best choices. And I didn't mean to rip on your hometown/resort that hard, I just had to defend for Silverthorne, cause its really not that bad.

CO has dope parks but cost way to much to live. Rent and food are dirt cheap, and you have a crazy pow like 30min away.

ur best bet is on a couch for 300+ a month. no place will rent for 3 months only. 6th month lease is a minimum. Try Blue River which is the small town outside of breck. and get that epic pass as soon as u can. and don't expect finding a job in december as most jobs are snaked up in october
