Colorado University at Boulder

I'm a junior in high school and i'm looking at colleges. I was wondering how the university of colorado at boulder is. Questions like: How's the town? Any freestyle team or anything? Hows the soccer program? I have a 95-97 average...is that good? How's the classes? etc.

I'm visiting over february break and i just wanted some insight from actual students and such.

Any help would be great!

CU is awesome. there is a freestyle team, a ski/snowboard club called boulder freeride, and you'll meet a ton of people who ski/board just being around, especially since you're on NS. i love it here.

yeah cu is awesome, not as close to skiing at utah and some other schools, but you can't beat boulder for a college town

CU is sick, I'm a freshman here and dig it so far, there's always something to do out here it seems...

Great town for sure - come check it out an give us buffs a holla.

its realllly hard to get housing unless you're an incoming freshman (still, i know a lot this past year had to live in hotels for a bit since there were so many ). if i were you i'd start looking on craigslist for off-campus rooms/housing options for your first semester at CU. don't want to get stuck in a bind like I did...

regardless of housing issues though, you'll love CU.

Utah Skiing > Colorado Skiing

Colorado Lifestyle > Utah Lifestyle

The Sink > The Pie Pizzeria (3.2 does really suck)

Colorado Cops > Utah Cops

Colorado Education > Utah Education

Colorado Girls >>>>>>>>> Utah Girls (fucking mormon teases)

Tough to say considering this is a ski site....needless to say I've lived in both states and I'm currently attending CU.

Yeah, Im not too worried, I am incoming fresh and they require you to live in the dorms, right? Id muh rather live off campus, Im used to cooking and doing everything for myself anyway... Although, I do love shitty dining hall food...

It depends on traffic, i hate I70 with a passion. If theres no traffic abasin and keystone are the closest at about 1 hr 15 min or 1 hr 30 min. When you hit traffic on weekends delays can add anywhere from 30 min to 4 hours to that, but you can normally beat it if you get your ass up early. If you get weekdays off its not bad.

yeah the mountains are a hour and a half getting there

its getting back that takes forever

if there is bad weather it will take anywhere from 2-4 hours to get home

its lame

but CU is sick as fuck

how does the freestyle team work? Is there like a bus or something that brings the team to the mtns?

There is a bus, coming in i thought id take it all the time but never did. You have to sign up for it almost a week in advance but its normally much easier to just get rides from friends. The freestyle team is another thing i considered but it cost too much for my budget. But i have heard good things about it if you can afford it, and if you can't the amount of people here that love riding is great. Its really not hard to make a group of friends to ride with and you can get quite a few days in if you keep skiing in mind when you set up your schedule

check out the freestyle ski team's web site, cufst.com, for some more info and email the team with any questions; im on the team and it's a good time.

diffrent people will say diffrent things; i think its a great oppurtunity, but when you get to school next year, come to the info meetings and dryland training (which includes tramp and water ramp training) an you'll be able to see if its right for you. If you have anyother questions, go to the website and go to "contact" and email the team.

i know people who have been on it and opted not to do it this year. you'll meet a bunch of really good skiers (just around, on the mountain, on the lift, etc), regardless of wether or not you join the team or not. there are always people willing to give you help/tips. if you're really serious about competition and stuff (which you can usually do if you're not on the team anyway) the team might be a good thing for you....

CU IS SPECTACULAR. also the team seems pretty fun if you like to compete, the coaches are pretty good and its a great way to get footy and pics too. im on the snowboard team so we work closely with em and they all seem super chill. the team is what you make of it. if you are gunna go to practice and compete i say go for it if you want to do it, but dont pay the money and not go or not compete that would be a waste. just email them and ski with them while you are out here and see what you think.

Ya, it's not that far but if I-70 is shitty it can take several extra hours. He has a point, and I'm glad I have other options.

CU is full of a fuck ton o` Douchers, but there are some cool kids too. Boulder is generally pretty sweet. Get ready to get Bro'd on all the time.
^^ oh and yeah , freshmen can have cars but parking is a real bitch like super far from the dorms, unless you know one of a few certain super secret spots...

im so sick of the kids that go to boulder. CU was my first choice until i got out here. bunch of fuckin idiots. JW is where im going instead. better location too.

i fucking hate most boulder kids, that being said some of my best friends are out here, but there are a lot of people from cali...and im just not the biggest fan. way to many kids in new eras and frog skins (or any other wayferer knock offs) who are longboarding around campus because they are so fucking chill. the school is about 50% trend whores. so far after 2 years here I've found the school to be just average academics wise. there are some great professors and some terrible one, and way to many bias, terrible, TAs who will teach your recitations. the school is also out to get your money, not one public parking lot on campus, meters all over, tuition is ridiculous for a public univ. boulder also has some gay ass cops and I say this from first hand experience. they are the worst police force in america but I will not get into that here and spare you some 4 pages of reading.

I've never had anything but good experiences with Boulder cops.

Came to my house (off the hill by Boulder High) at least 6 times one year without a single ticket, threat, etc. and I've been caught longboarding while drinking a beer underage and nothing came of it.

As for Boulder kids.....granted there are plenty of bro's and chad's from Cali, Texas and even Boston but there are just as many laid back, native Coloradoans. There's enough people that go to the school that there's no reason not ot find a good group of friends.

Boulder cops can be good and bad, i got pulled over longboarding drunk down a street and they let me off, not 21 by the way. Then other times ive had encounters where the cops are dicks.Lot of cali kids out here too which can be a good thing or bad thing depending how you view them and you like that lifestyle.

Jeeeaaaa. Whatever about the kids hating the Boulder kids, I'm sure I'll have the time of my life, and I'll be able to find some cool kids to hang out with.

I'll see some of you next year.

word! more than anything however, im just looking forward to riding some better mountains than the hills we have here in the midwest...ha

Haha, so true. We all call it the University of California at Boulder. Alot of the Colorado kids go elsewhere.

i was not in a very good mood when I posted that. boulder is a sick school and I can think of few other places where I could be having this much fun in college. not everyone is a complete douche, far less than the 50% I originally noted, just quite a few more than I'm used to so it takes a little patience for me.
as for the cops. my opinion will never change, they blatantly lied in a police report where they were supposed to have the least bias opinion. once my trail is over i may do a short write up on here but I am more than appalled with the boulder police force.

It's all good man, we all have those times where we just rant.

That sucks about the police. I'd like to know what happens/happened. I hope shit turns out well.

I'm not going there. Too far from the mountains, too many hippies, too many bros, and I didn't get into the music school. MSU here I come.

too many hippies jack? really? remember that one time you smoked pot? you dirty hippy fuck.

i personally think a school with hippies is a good sign. however i chose u of u over cu so oh well.

i protest you calling me a towel you tall fuck. next time i see you im going to smother you in my cottony embrace.

i just got accepted to transfer this coming fall. im super stoked, just have to find some cool kids to live with since im coming from wisconsin by myself. anyone down to rage?
