Its that time of year and I'm looking for some schools with programs linked to the ski industry.

So far I have applied to The University of Maine at Farmington and Lyndon State. Recently discovered CMC in Steamboat Springs.

Anyone go here? Or have gone? Any info would be awesome, as well as some other school suggestions.
 
I know they have an extension in breck. I don't think they offer all the classes they do at steamboat in breck though. I was going to do some looking into cmc as well. Are you a senior now?
 
I go to CMC in Edwards, 5 minutes from Beaver Creek (where i work) and 15 from Vail.

Its a great option for people wanting to coming here, get to Colorado experience, ski alot, go to a good small school for 2 years. And then transfer over to CU or something like that.
 
I went to the steamboat campus for less than a semester i found the education to be less than satisfactory. The ski business major is great and wonderful if you plan on staying in the industry for the rest of your life. i was told be multiple people the if you try to get a "real" job when you get out people will just laugh at you. other than that is a beautiful place to live, although if you live in the dorms beware you can't do shit without being bitched at or kicked out of the school. no i didn't get kicked out i left under my own will.
 
If you want a real education, don't go to CMC. A few of their campuses do Bachelor's degrees, but most are Associates.

Fort Lewis in Durango does a good ski resort/ski tourism management degree but good luck staying in school there. They have one of if not the highest dropout rate in the country.

CSU in Fort Collins has an amazing Tourism Management program too (focused on Natural Resources).
 
I go to the CMC up in Steamboat it is my second year up here and I love it the skiing is amazing but the park is sub par I guess they got a grant from go pro or something like that for this year so maybe it might be better. I am currently in the ski and snowboard business program right now, you get an associates in applied science with a certificate in ski business and two other Ski and Snowboard certificates. At this school they offer 2 different bachelor degree programs that you can go into after you get you associates. You can also transfer to Taho after your two years and i believe they offer a bachelor degree in Ski and Snowboard Business. Up here they are very accommodating to your scheduling needs and you can make your schedule so you can ski 7 days a week.Like someone pervasively said if you want to work outside the ski and snowboard world it might be harder to get a job but if you plan on staying in the ski and snowboard world then companies really look for people in this program because in steamboat they teach you things that you wouldn't get with a normal business degree and you get great connections through working at SIA through CMC. It is not for everyone but if you want to work in the ski industry then CMC is a great place to start. Plus classes are way cheaper than going to a big school. People who do come up to steamboat usually fall into two categories the ones who try hard and finish there degree and most likely get picked up by a ski business and the people who don't try and don't care and end up dropping out or getting kicked out and think the school is dumb. They have some amazing classes up here and if you finish your two years up here and you want something more transfer to CU boulder and get a bachelor degree in business from them you are already half way there and you will not have to pay the ridiculous amounts of money to go to CU for your first two years taking pre-req's that you can take at CMC for a fraction of the price. HA, there is so much false knowledge posted in this thread... the female situation in breck has gotten a lot better in the last few years. I don't think I have a class that isn't equal girls to guys. Breck isn't dude central anymore... I couldn't say the same about the others, especially steamboat which is still a dude fest.

I'm currently doing the BASS (Bachelors of Arts in Sustainability Studies) degree and I love it. I'll admit some of the teachers can be iffy for lower level classes but for all of mine they are rock solid. However, for lower level (your general "core" level} classes even with iffy teachers they're not had classes are I've always believed it's just as beneficial as taking them at a community college type school rather than a university. I'm sorry, but taking basic college algebra or some other 1st year class at a university is not worth the extra money.

I'll be graduating in the spring (maybe summer) and already have multiple options for careers, although that's mostly due to the degree I chose since it's rated as one of the top 10 degrees to earn right now. CMC now offers an internship program (which I'm enrolled in) and it's already helping me make connections and increase my networking.

If you want to ski for a year or two in college it's the way to go, then just head to CU or some other university to do classes for your major. The main reason CMC has a bad rep (sometimes, it's actually rated as one of the top community colleges in the country believe it or not) is because most people don't know how to actually use all the utilities they offer, and most people also don't take the schooling seriously because it's not a "university atmosphere".

Believe this or don't believe, but all in all I'm a proud CMC student, and I know what is actually going on here. I mean, did any of you know that Breck will be turning into a full residential campus with multiple building within the next 10 years? Their funding and support from the education community is growing rapidly.
 
If you want to ski and lay a foundation for a four year degree, CMC is the shit. All the kids that hate don't go there anymore, so its awesome. The vibe at CMC steamboat is awesome and mostly everyone is excited to be there. Believe it or not, a lot of the teachers live in steamboat for the same reasons that students go there - to ski and live an awesome and active lifestyle. The steamboat campus was recently expanded and is really nice, not to mention that Steamboat is a true small town skiing community that supports where cmc is going. You can save a ton of money, ski your heart out, meet tons of cool people, and live in a ski town, so i would definitely recommend it.

I went to CMC for two years, and now go to CSU in fort collins and will be graduating in may and headed to grad school in the fall. Take school seriously and cmc could can be an excellent experience, not to mention steamboat might become your permanent home. I know dozrens of kids that i started with at cmc with who still live in steamboat and love life a hell of a lot more than all the kids who go to 'real' schools and get 'real jobs' and end up getting their 'dream' job at a desk in a city, wishing they could just save up to move to a ski town.

oh, and as for the 'lack' of women - no there are not as many girls as dudes at cmc, but it is constantly getting better and half the dudes in steamboat have no game anyway. So pull your shit together and go get 'em, cause most of the girls in steamboat are the shit. Saying there is not enough girls is a lame ass excuse for having zero game and admitting that you need drunk slutty chicks to enjoy college.
 
sounds like you pussied out and listened to the haters. Like I said, i went there. I had a fantastic experience and no one has 'laughed at me' for going there. The ski business major is MEANT for you to stay in the ski business, why the fuck else would you take that major? Thats like going to school for psychology and bitching that you cant get a job in the engineering field...

This is my 3rd Year at CU-Boulder...

And I really regret not getting an AS and then finishing up at CU....

It will give you time to find yourself and really figure out what you truly want to study.

If you jump right in to CU-Boulder it is sooo fucking hard to keep your head on your shoulders and keep a straight train of thought. holy shit lol
 
I forgot to mention this part. It's definitely a good option if you don't have the GPA or whatever to go straight to a 4 year.
