Colleges with good skiing

It's that time to start applying to colleges and of course I'm narrowing down whats Important. Looking in the CO. UT. area.

Utah is expensive out of state first year but then after that It become in state pricing, Ive got some fam friends that who went there to ski

Call me crazy for recommending a school in the East, but I skied close to 100 days a season in college at Plymouth State while taking a full course load. If you schedule your classes right you can ski every day. 20 mins to Loon and Waterville, 35 mins to Cannon, 1h15 to Wildcat, and 2 hours to Sunday River and Killington.

There's definitely better skiing to be had out west, but make sure you take into account how far your school is to the mountain. A lot of my homies in CO drive 3+ hours on a good day with no weather/traffic to get to the hill. They were always jealous I could go to a class or two in the morning, be on the hill by noon, and make it back to campus before dinner time.

Edit: also a good option if money is an issue.

Please use the search function. Your question is one of the most over posted things on this site; there are seriously 10,000 threads that have already addressed this, some are pages long with advice and suggestions. It isn't hard to find said threads.

Thanks and have a great day!

Im a freshman at CU Boulder this year and so far I would say u shouldn't come here for skiing because you'll be partying the whole time.

Western state is a great choice, gunnison is dope, or Fort Lewis in Durango, Purgatory and Telluride are close as well as Wolf Creek. I go to UCCS, monarch is 1hr 30 away and keystone is 1hr 30 away. Plus its not Boulder so you don't have to deal with gapers who go ski Vail with their mommy and daddys wallet in their Matching Columbia gear lol

I go to CU. The freeski team is expensive af and basically pay-for-friends. The "fun" mountains are at least an hour and 45 away with shitty traffic and at that point you still have to deal with all the crowd and Vail awfulness.

My suggestion is to go to Nevada or Bozeman. One friend is having a blast at Reno at Squaw, another few are killing it at Big Sky. Both resorts are better than what is up i70 in CO anyway in terms of terrain and culture.

What do you want to study? I'm in aerospace engineering at CU and it kicks ass in terms of our program's national rating but also wrecks your free time.

for real...you going to be able to ski more this time around?

That's the goal. I'm planning on just lapping the Eldora park with those Domains. I know Summit is too far for me with my schedule. If you're ever here hit me up and you have a place to stay.

How far are you from crested? We have a comp there

It might be worth considering that many of the "good" college options for skiing can be really expensive. Wherever you end up going... Make sure your going to be able to afford skiing on top of tuition, and living expenses... Maybe its not an issue for you, but its still something to consider.

I back this 100% as a student at PSU and VP of the Freeski Club. Lots of great skiing all really close. There is a ski area reopening down the road less than 7 miles from the school too. There is also an on campus rail jam as well as discounted ski tickets to a local area. Last year it was $5 day tickets to WV even on holidays. the school also has a ski day where they cancel classes one day during February and the entire school gets to ski for free. its a fucking blast.

Its cheap, its easy, and we like to shred hard and party harder

In terms of schools out west I would recommend Western State Colorado University (half hour to Crested Butte and Monarch Pass), University of Utah/Westminster (little over a half hour from PC/Canyons. Brighton and Solitude are close as well), University of Nevada Reno (around 45 min to Boreal, Squaw, Northstar)

I hear Utah and Colorado are awesome. MSU sucks, pretty shitty school and the skiing isn't great either.
