Colleges near Mammoth

^ the next closest thing would be UNR in renoi 2.5 hours away. Which by the way would be a legit choice.

anything in LA is 5-6 ish hours, anything UNR in Reno is like 2.5 as said above.

Besides that you could try to take some Gen Eds at Cerro Coso community college, but you might have to drive to bishop (30-40 minutes away) to get classes you want... the Cerro Coso in Mammoth only did classes 2 days a week last I heard.

if you're gonna go to UNR, you may as well ride tahoe....lots more choice....although I skied mammoth for 2 years...and it's one of my favourite

does reallt detract from the point that it's still the closest college to Mammoth except cerra coso which hardly counts as a collge.

USC has an amazing ski club/team. They rent a house in Mammoth for the whole season...you pay $400 to join the team and you get unlimited use of the house for the entire season. There are a bunch of kids that ski park and some big mtn people too. People are going up and back pretty much every day except mondays and tuesdays. I would highly recommend it. You can message abek or -kk on here if you have more questions, they are officers.

i think alot of uc campuses have teams like that that have rentals all year, i remember girls on santa barbara team, long beach, all over cali, from when i lived at mammoth

Yeah, I think UCLA, and either SDSU or UCSD (i forget which) have houses. UCSB just rents condos on event weekends. But yeah, a lot of the schools in the SCCSC league rent a place.

damn that USC thing sounds legit. Ha never knew that. i used to always want to go to SC until i got into riding, haha.
You guys forgot about Western Nevada Community College. Ha its in gardenerville so its only like hour and a half away. Haha, i actually didnt know it existed until i passed a sign for it goin to sonora last weekend, so i doubt its nething, plus its in gardenerville.
I suggest UNR, close to mammoth if you want, but you can go to Squaw for 300 dollars instead!!!!

Yes, Cal State San Bernardino and University of Redlands are both approx. 45 mins away and the bottom of the mountain. Plus there's Crafton Hills college and Valley Community College the same distance. But don't go to valley unless you want your car stolen. lol.

forget about mammoth cause there are no good schools close, go to UC Davis or UC Berkeley. They both have similar ski situations (with Tahoe) to USC with really cool ski teams and the are 1.5 hrs and 3 .5 hours away respectively. They are also great schools, which means they are not easy to get into, but you could get away with skiing a lot and getting a degree from a great school.

don't forget about mammoth! a lot of kids i know from SC and santa barbara get 3 or 4 days a week in at mammoth every week.

no but there is a college in montana and a ski area is 15 min away with hella good powder and i think a pretty good park

there at least a dozen colleges within 1.5 hours of bear or under an hour from mt high. i go to cal poly pomona wiotch is about 1.5 hours from bear

yo USC is neato but 1) you better meet the guys who ski first 2) it is located in shithole downtown LA, rad campus rad frat row, but you are still in shithole LA surrounded by parking lots (the 10, 110, 405) and 3) it is still a five, at the least, hour drive to mammoth.

i go to LMU right near tha beach and we go to mountain high at nights where the treall cuttys roll, ya dig, straight up herb-smokin, gat handlin mother fuckers out there who will fuck your shit if you are out of line.

Also, USC put on the weakest campus rai;l jam possibly known to man. Lets just say that the total on snow sesh time for qualification was roughly 10 seocnds, to make a 2 hour long final session round. THE SNOW WAS THERE FOR 3 DAYS AFTER THE EVENT!

Yeah...i lived in san diego and i would drive the 7 hours each weekend.....but I made it in about 4 hours.....you can fly on the 395, but it's not the safest thing to do, I was doing an average of 100 miles an hour on that thing, but I wouldn't do that ever again....not after the 99mph speeding ticket I got, I was doing 103(with my foot on the brakes) but the cop bumped it down to 99 cuz it a felony otherwise...I'll never forget the words: "103 what's your problem, That's JAIL TIME"

haha nice. Thanks for your help guys. I don't think I'll have a problem getting into a school seeing as how I've put up great grades and a pretty good SAT score which I'm retaking next month along with my first go at the ACT's and I'm taking a bunch of AP's. +karma

I go to USC and have been the secretary of the ski team for the past 3 years. This year our team took #1, #2 and #3 in slopestyle for skiing, and our team pretty much consists of a bunch of skiers. about 10 people on the team only had class mondays and wednesdays so they'd ski thursday-sunday and surf tuesdays. yeah the drive sucks, but if you ski as much as we do and are actually looking for a good education you will use that drive to do homework. Anyway, i'm from hood and used ot get about 30 days a season, now i'm getting about 60 days on the hill, staying up in the house thanksgiving, christmas, spring break, etc, while doing engineering.

Also, this year i think the only team that had a house besides us was long beach, but their house was down in crowly which is about a 20 minute drive to mammoth. Our house was a 5 minute walk to the gondola. The rest of the teams only come up pretty much on race weekends and get condos which is 6 times a year.

Now to respond to your rail jam thing - we came to mammoth with the idea, and the guys there pretty much took it over, but put it on us to get everything organized for them - permits, activities, whatever. Then they came in and told us exactly when it was going to take place (we wanted it at night, not in the middle of classes) and how the format was going to be. Believe me, I of all people thought it was ludicrous i'd get 3 hits all day after planning the frickin thing for 2 months. But yeah it was more about exposure for our team and getting people at school to experience what we get to. I'm sorry you think it sucked but we're going to start planning this summer for the next one and hopefully it will be a bit better. We're going to have a college kid only rule so no randos from mt. high show up, or have the sponsors continually hitting it while all of us get to sit and watch.. no fun.

ANYWAY long story short, come to USC if you want an education and a sweet ski team. Otherwise all of the schools around here are pretty decent and we all have a good time up there together in mammoth.

but yes, LA is a shit hole, i agree 100%. but we can surf?

be a real newschooler, go public and save money. cal is EASt bay, dont

get much more baller status than that. we ain't #1 public for no

reason. none ya stuck up types payin 50k a year

-most consistent overhead surf in cali

-hella skate parks (and bowls)

-tahoe 2.5 hours away

-santa cruz 45 minutes

-yosemite 3 hrs

- #1 public

- general laid back atmosphere, minimal material types

- surrounded by san fran, oakland, and san jose

you cant lose with any UC nor stanfurd or USC, but LA sucks. bay area is where its at.

macdre says go cal
