The University of Pittsburgh is looking for students to fill up their annual Spring Creek Field Study Program in Rock River, Wyoming. It's open to any student, with any major, at any university.

The WFSP-SCFS is a unique introduction to the fundamental practices of paleontology, ecology, and archaeology, with a strong emphasis on field techniques. Students are given the opportunity to unlock a natural time capsule, one teeming with remnants of life that date back 150 million years. In addition to their work in the Spring Creek Preserve, students will take numerous short field trips to other study locations and into the nearby Medicine Bow Mountains for learning, hiking, and recreation. A multi-day field trip will explore the broader geology, paleontology, archaeology, and ecology of the state of Wyoming, including visits to Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Thermopolis hot springs, Green River Formation fossil collecting sites, and the Kilpecker Dune Field. Participants experiences will be broadened through community with students from the University's Studio Arts Department, whose creativity is inspired by the local environment every summer, and by delving into fictional and non-fictional literature set in the area, historical accounts of the Laramie region, and discussions of the political and ethical issues surrounding land use in the west.

I always wanted to be a paleontologist when I was little

but at that point in my life I called them the dinosaur digger guys.

Ill look into in though

Did you say....dinosaurs?

seriously though this is a cool opportunity

I was like...

"they pay you 3600 dollars!!!!!! WELL FUCK YES I'LL GO!!!!!"

then i saw that was the cost....

I totally would have been smokin bowls and digging up dino bones like a boss.

I would steal mad pieces, and also leave some fake pieces. Then they'd think they had some new breed of dinosaur, and I'd hide in the background. After they got it on the news and textbooks and every where I'd be like yo you got trolled bitches.

It'd be dope

That looks awesome! It's tempting...

I'm trying to get internships with mining companies in northern Quebec to get started on the "plan nord" dealio. If I fail, this could be a sweet option.. I just wouldn't make the same money

For $3600 I can go to Japan and ski the best powder in the world and get a culture shock..............

Fuck digging up dead shit in the middle of nowhere with wikiwiki

but seriously, i have a 2000 dollar plane ticket voucher that's about to expire. this actually looks pretty darn interesting.

Think about it. $3600 for your credits, room/board, food, transportation over a 6 week period, etc etc...it's not that bad. Pitt is roughly $550/credit and I'll receive 6 credits for this course. It's a once in a lifetime experience to go to North Americas richest cache of dinosaur bones and it's also rich in Native American artifacts. You get to hunt, hike, ski, swim, and whatever else your heart desires during your free time. Not to mention you take a week trip to travel around the entire state of Wyoming! From what I've heard from friends, this trip is unreal and I guarantee some NSers would love this!!

sounds kinda lame.

when you add cost + lost income it would come out to like $6000... I pay too many bills as it is so i need a steady income over the summer.

this sounds awesome! I will have to sort out money seeing as i am about 2000 off right now :( But if i get the money together they I would be down

I was Biology for 4 years and switched to Environmental Studies. They're extremely similar at Pitt so I have a great background. I'm interested in geologic time dealing with fossil records + plant/animal biology and evolution.

Do they need any help/interns? haha. Dang I miss college, none of these came up or were advertised when I was getting my degree in physical geography & earth science.

I mean who wouldnt want to spend 6 weeks with me

You really don't get it do you? I can put this on my resume, especially if I find something to do an independent study on. Your research will be put in the world-renowned Carnegie Museum of Natural History. That's ok, I'll enjoy it regardless!

does university in canada = college in the US?

for some reason i feel like there's a difference between em.

its 6 credits- 6 credits of summe classes at pitt costs 3600 bucks- this includes room and food however so its really a fucking deal

Wait..so what is college in Canada then? That's really interesting because college/university are pretty much interchangeable here, just depends on the size of the school and attainable degrees I think.

there is a ton of different definitions, but to me it seems like the main difference is that college primarily works with people going into blue collar jobs and University generally will work with people going on to white collar jobs.

that's so strange but if i remember correctly, germany has the same kind of system. i'm sure it's similar in the us too but i'm just not thinking about it like that. i realize that people can become millionaires without even having to go to college/uni ya know?

regardless. COME DIG UP BONEZ WIF MEH!
