I'm looking to move to Utah here. My question is do certain universities provide discounted season passes for the mountains in Park City or Salt Lake? I know for example in Colorado if you got to UoC you can get a student season pass for like 400 bucks or so and it works on like all the neighboring mountains.

yeah I looked up most of the mountains but each one offers a student discounted pass to like their specific mountain. I was curious is you are like attending UoU or some other college that there was something through the college that got you a discounted on that worked on all the moutnains in the valley.

unfortunately there are no combo passes in utah. Except a bird alta pass but thats like 1k, or a ski utah gold pass, but thats far beyond what a college student would want to spend.
that said there are college discounts through the ski clubs at the university. My bird pass was $500 for chairs only, and PC was $375 day only. I dont know why but solitude does not offer a college deal through the clubs.

Thanks for the response. So I noticed that park city allows you to customize your pass so that you can choose when it works. Is there preferred times that you'd buy a pass?
In addition are there some mountains that are better to buy a pass to? Link Brighton solitude the canyons park city Alta snowbird or others?

This is a classic debate. If you like park and want to ride a good park you need a park city pass, period. It's the best park in Utah hands down, and one of the best in the country when it's in its prime.
Pow at park city is not so great though, they're at a lower elevation so they get less snow than Alta/snowbird/brighton/etc and have some fun terrain, but not much. So for pow you have some choosing to do, and I'd chose mostly based on where you will have friends to ride with. Try to find a good group of friends before buying your passes, because this is probably the most important part of having a fun winter. Not only is it fun to ski with people, but having people to carpool with and whatnot makes it cheaper and more fun as well.

Okay thanks for the advice, So its looking like that its almost guaranteed to be getting one to Park City but then just up in the air for the other one.
Also with pass and the cost I noticed that Park City has the ability to customize in regards to paying for only a pass that you want. Is there a certain one that almost everyone gets because its ideal or is there one that you want to avoid etc.

I would wager that everyone gets the 375$ day pass, or the 475$ day/night pass. dont waste your money with fast tracks or whatever they call it or under ground parking.
take the money saved and buy a second pass.
im going to generate a ton of hate with this comment,
but unless you like moderately steep terrain with a mile long run out at the end dont get a brighton pass. if you were equipped / educated / had partners for BC skiing then that would be different. but the terrain at Brighton really can in no way compare to that of Alta or Snowbird.
dont get me wrong,ive had incredible pow days at brighton, and its a fun place to ski, but there is almost nothing there that has the "oh shit" factor. there is a reason that when my 58 year old father comes to town that we go ski brighton. lots of little flat shots of skiing through the trees.

Good advice I appreciate it. Does it also depend on where friends and rides are going to help sway that battle? I mean I live in Idaho, and there is nothing that is even remotely close to big mountain or pow skiing here. I've never been to Utah on a pow day so what will it be like?
