College planning

I am currently a junior in HS and have started the awful process of finding a college. I would absolutely love to go to Montana State (any engineers go there?) and am also lookin at UW madison...unfortunately skiing in madison would be very minimal due to lack of a car i think. Any other suggestions? looking for a good engineering college hopefully near some legit mountains, i cant wait to get out of the mighty midwest. (for some reason i feel the minimal karma i have, will soon be gone because of this thread haha)
 
ya i know that haha uw madison is one of the best in the nation, and msu has a decent engineering field..i have visited both. there are reasons i haven't really even thought about CU...probably a little too distracting
 
i am going to msu in the fall, and people have told me that msu's engineering program is extremely good.
 
Not necessarily true. The engineering curriculum it very demanding and I would absolutely hate my life if I could not ski PC or Snowbird at least three days a week. The engineering program at the University of Utah is good enough and within 30 minutes of a handful of the worlds best resorts. One gets out of school what they put into it, and an M.S. in Engineering from any accredited university will get you relatively far in life.
 
I'm a junior in high school too and the U of I Engineering program is great from what I've heard, we had some guy come in to out engineering from UofI and he kept saying how they're one of the best, and it's a legit school.. but if you go there don't even think about skiing. closest hill you'll have in Illinois is about a 3 hour drive and its nothing special at all around here.. i'm pretty sure i'm going to UW Madison though so I don't have much skiing to look forward to either but i'm used to it now..

other than that i have no idea about engineering.. I was thinking about majoring in civil engineering in college but i had a change of heart and I'll probably be doing sports medicine or physical therapy but who knows

good luck with deciding, definitely do some research or talk to an engineering teacher or one of those college resource guys if you have one at your school but you've got all summer man. peaceout

 
You are correct. U of I is one (if not the) top rated engineering school in the nation for numerous different disciplines.

That being said, any school that is ABET accredited is sufficient.

Nobody really gives a rip about where you went for Undergrad so long as it is ABET accredited.

It's more important that you look out for those grades, and get several internships or a Co-Op under your belt while you're there.
 
Mt Brighton/Alpine/Mt Holly, all about 30 minutes away.. all are mehh..... Boyne and Nubs Nob or like 3hrs north and way better.Go to MSU.My friend goes to MSU (Michigan State) for engineering and graduating this year, but about 4 months ago Texas Instruments offered him a job for 60K a year. He took it. Go to MSU.
 
Hey yeah! I go to Montana State in Bozeman and I have to admit, I probably picked this school because the skiing is just awesome. My roommate is in engineering and I have several friends in there and it is a really great school. I'm in biochemistry though. I would advise against CU because there's great skiing in the area, but its all more than an hour away from the campus. (I used to live near Boulder). Its a great school, but Montana State has skiing 20 min away from campus. And the scholarship deal at MSU isn't bad either. I have no regrets going to Montana.
 
ya, can't beat the 7500 bucks a year automatic for the act score i got! went to both big sky and bridger when i visited and had a blast...i really wish i didn't have to choose between crappy skiing but better/cheaper college at UW and extremely good skiing but more expensive for me at MSU.

but stevens tech in soho is legit as fuck. go there. crazy good school but you can do the research on your own. if i was going to engineering school like the rest of my family i would go there. might not be the "best" school but for sure is a very very respected school. sometimes that goes further.
 
the university of minnesota duluth is building a new engineering building. just saying. spirit is 15 mins from campus and has an excellent skiing community.
 
Holy shit so many NSers going to MSU next year.

But I am a freshman at MSU and in Civil Engineering so if you have any specific questions just PM me. But CORE classes are super fucking gay but just try to get them out of the way ASAP.

Also Pat_in_the_hat is also a junior engineering major and I am sure he would be more than willing to answer questions. :P
 
I think he mean MSU as in Montana State?

But there is Bridger 20min away and really easy to hitch hike there.

Also Big Sky/Moonlight about 1hr away but there is a free bus that goes there every day that takes about 1.5 hours and Moonlight has a baller ass park but if you wanna just ski park I wouldn't come to Montana. I would recommend a Big Sky pass if you came here but supposedly they are loosing all the park crew so their park will prolly be terrible next year but refer to my previous comments.

 
if your really serious about engineering

UC Boulder has great Engineering

CO School of Mines

also, Tufts has an engineering school, which non of the other north east liberal arts schools have. your also right near boston and not THAT far from skiing.

if you are just looing into sciences and possibly engineering in the future, any of those new england liberal arts colleges (NESCAC conference) will be sick. that is where im looking
 
rochester institute of technology, university at buffalo, and university of rochester are all great schools for their engineering program. im at geneseo and if you want to get more theoretical with physics, we have an exremely high graduation rate for physics majors. if you make it you get picked up quick.
