if you want to make good money, then engineering, computer science, etc. are definetly legit majors. and if you go to any sort of reputable school, these aren't cakewalk degrees either so i think there's defeintly a degree of respect attached to these diplomas.
for the business department, accounting and omis are the most reasonable choices. demand is high, pay is pretty good. don't do marketing or any other bullshit like that.
avoid any degree that requires graduate school, pre-med, pre-law, etc. you can still pick up an education in a different study and apply to these schools. pre-law is offered where i go to school, but i'm majoring in accounting and planning on going to law school - if i can get through these last fucking years.
and if you're thinking of a communications major you should probably save yourself the effort later on when you're sucking dick for a bowl of soup, and kill yourself now. that, or switch.
