I'm curious to see something:

How many people picked a major primarily because you knew that you could find a job you liked WITH that major?

and...

How many of you picked your major simply because you liked the subject and will worry about finding a career later?

list your major*

a bit of both, i narrowed it down to BSC in physics and BASC (bachelor of applied science) in engineering because i liked physics in high school, and then picked engineering because of the career (and money) opportunities.

I chose my Spanish major to help me in my job. I'm going to dental school, and I'm from California, so I figured I'd be able to cater to a larger population with the 2nd language. I chose my Business Minor to help run the practice as well.

im an industrial Design major. ive known i was going to go into that field since i was a lil kid. ive always been drawing cars and designing stuff. it wasnt even a question.

I'm an Animal Bio major, and since I have wanted to be a vet for years it seemed like the major that best prepared me for tha- plus I like the subject.

i picked political science because i love the topic and i knew i could find a job in it. I've always had the few that if i plan on having a career in anything for a long time it has to be something i truly enjoy doing or else il never be really happy, and lets face it the more something interests you the better you will be at it, the better you are the better you get paid. Theres a need for every job out there, if you are enjoying what you do and good at it, you will get paid well and be successful. So I think you really should just go into what interests you.

Finance. and most likely law school after. i chose it because i lead and would like to lead a lifestyle that requires a bit of money. i want to be really really wealthy...not gonna lie. thats what determined my major pretty much

Oh word. I just took a invert/vert animal bio class. I also went up to oregon this past summer for some marine bio classes. They're pretty fun.

Why go through college pissed off? I figuered that our after three different major's.

Now its staying with Family and Consumer Sciences...loads of chicks

But, I dont forsee me even using my major, just need a 4yr degree is something.

History and minoring in political science lol because i love it and its easy as fuck to study for me but im now realizing what the fuck am i gonna do with that besides go to law school. so i think im switching to business and either minoring in history or pols

Graphic Design or something along the lines, because I'm very interested in the industry and theres potential to make a good amount of money while doing something I enjoy.

A bit of both. I'm a film major, hoping to be a post production supervisor or editor after college but I love filmmaking. It would suck to be stuck in only one category.

Both,

I have a double major, and a minor, and play varsity (im a busy dude) I picked Business as my one major to get a job and money for my 3.2 kids, bmw and white picket fence. I picked English because not only is it my strenght but it also really interests me, and I hold a minor in History because I find it interesting enought to do research on it anyway, so i might as well get a minor in it. That all being said, I might drop the business major, the more I do, the more I dont like the person I turn into. I am not an office person and you honestly dont need a business degree to work in business anymore, everyone has a BCOMM now, my buddy who works as a stock broker downtown actually has a geology degree and my other buddy with a BCOMM was unemployed for 3 months. I also dont really want to spend another 3 years at school when i could be out and working in 11/2.

I both since i decided to double major: Philosophy and Economics. I loved the philosophy department and all the teachers so that was really easy for me to choose, but then i added econ for more job options. So i think im getting the best of both worlds, and enjoy everything i do work for.

i picked bioengineering because i liked it and wanted to go to med school. but now i realize that med school would suck so i picked up an ecomomics minor and want to work right out of school, mainly for money. so i guess i started with what i wanted, and then switched to something for money.

i am going for wellness and alternative medicine; and pyschology. i picked pysch because i've always been interested in the topic. i tacked on wellness and alternative medicine, because i would be much more happy pursuing medicine or health in my career from an alternative and unconventional standpoint. and i can become a certified shiatzu practioner or a reiki master. which i'm also interested in and could definitely help me foot my way through grad school.

I'm pretty good at Chemistry, though I don't like it...currently I'm a chem major so that I can get into medical school so that I can pursue a career in Radiology. Big $$$.

I was just taking the courses I liked and did well at and decided on my major in 3rd year (Computer Science). Luckily, I had enough credits. Job wasn't a factor in the decision at all

ive been in school for physics right now, but i failed my physics class this semester, so im thinking about changing my major, but i have to figure it out

i picked mine cuz its not too boring of a subject. i dont really plan on ever doing anything with it but you need to have a degree to get any decent job these days.

i picked a communication major with an emphasis in creative media with a double minor - business and history; i'm hoping to get a job doing marketing, advertising, whatever a degree in com can do, i'll do it at a ski resort. business, i figured "why not" and i like history so there you have it...

chose my major based on what i like to do, i dont want to fucking work in a cubical all day and lead a miserable job life, fuck that i want to love my job so much that it doesnt feel like a job

I'm only a freshman, but I will most likely major in environmental science. Fuck you global warming. I'm doing it out of pure interest in teh field. I would major in econ if i wanted big money. I think econ and business is boring as hell, so I picked something i like

I'm taking a pre-trades course, because I thought I would enjoy it as well as be good at it. Turns out I dont see myself wanting to do this for the rest of my life.

-marketing/bussiness major under grad program

-specialization in hospitality business

-minor in economics.

-eventually masters in business

-maybe a 2 year associates degree for ski resort management.

Creative writing...and screw a career. I'll write stories and grow strawberries and tend to the rabbits. I don't need money.

I think late high school is when people start to find the classes that they take interesting. I was extremely interested in physics, and I plan on majoring in it in college. I'm also going to a liberal arts school so I'll be relatively well rounded. After school I really have no idea as to what I want to do. I may go to an engineering school, maybe business school, maybe law school. I just want to learn the most I can about what I love in college and I'll figure out my career later.

I also understand that not everyone has this luxury and some people might think that I'm wasting my money on my college education, but I think a physics major can prove that one has skills in analytical thinking and I can probably end up doing whatever I want.

What a feeling.

I'm going Business Econ because Economics was easy for me in high school and because it is a lucrative market. I'm minoring in journalism/creative writing because I enjoy writing. Let the major pay for the minor,

I chose an engineering major because I am interested in that stuff. There arent any real dream jobs that have to deal with that stuff and I dont really want to get stuck working in a cubicle so i dont really see any jobs that have to do with engineering but in the long run in might pay off more than some liberal arts major

a tad of both. I chose architecture as a major because I like designing stuff, and I think it it fun. But it didn't hurt that I can get a job in that field. Because hey, I like skiing, but I'm not going to choose it as my major, because of reality of job opportunities

A little of both.

I picked my Anthropology major (with Cultural and Archaeology options) because I love it. I go to school in Montana, where we have insane archaeological sites so it has palentological (just made up that word) potential. Plus with cultural anthropology, I can go back to Hawaii (I grew up in California and North Shore) and educate the locals about resource managment, cultural conservation, all of that stuff. Work at the Bishop, something like that.

My other major is Recreation Managment- Nature Based Tourism. Its something I like alot and something that I could potentially make a career in. I'm thinking an eco-friendly yurt skiing operation.

What it all comes down to is that I love dinosaurs, skiing and being outside.

Im a Nursing major. ive always known ive wanted to be a nurse. then, my senior year in high school i internshiped in the ER and i loved every second of it. i hate nursing school, and i do horrible. i will prob be in college for the rest of my life. however, i love nursing and will do what it takes to get that degree.

I want to do dentistry and my advisor said a major in Biochemistry would be best for me so thats what im doin

I'm choosing to go into finance because I think I'm interested in it, the school I want to go to has a great program with a co-op so I won't have to worry about finding a job, and I'm not gonna lie I want the money

definitely going for architeture. I love it, so if a good job comes out of it after getting M.Arch, so be it, but I'm going for it just because it's what I want to do

There is a huge difference in getting a really specialized degree that costs alot of money and actually landing a good job in that field. Just because you have the degree doesnt mean you are guaranteed alot of money at all. You gots to know people and work your way up no matter what field you are in.

business with a marketing major + international business submajor, coz i think both of those could help me work in the business side of the ski industry.
