well i just got a laptop for christmas thinking i was going away to college. fast forward to a few weeks ago and i find out that because of money issues my parents are making me go to community college for 2 years then trasnfer to a university. should i sell the laptop and build myself a new desktop, then buy a new laptop in 2 years when i go away? or will i be needing one the next two years for community college? ill be living at home.

dude, the second you buy something electronic, something better comes out. technology is ALWAYS changing. if you try and stay ahead and ontop of it, youll wast so much money. half the time a new product is exactly the same as the old one, just new colors or programs or features, no major change is ever made in the same year.
 
use it. Going to cc before a 4 year college is a good thing. you can pad your gpa, save a shit ton of money and explore diffrent majors.
 
im still pissed though, i really wanted to get away from home. and i had the grades, i got a 31 on the act
 
at home eh? that sucks. I'm saying University's are mad competitive when it comes to grad programs. cc courses usually transfer directly. so you dont have to work your ass off to get A's in gen. ed. courses, and when you get to a U. you have a high gpa and can focus on your major.
 
well another option is to go neither...most universities these days (and im guessing ccs too?) have a well set up public access program. so you could hypothetically jsut sell the laptop, save the money, and do all your work on school computers. It'd be a pain in the ass but it depends onhow issueable your money issues are....
 
If you have a computer allready at home and you're not taking a computer course or anything that rerquires some mean machine return the computer. In a couple of years that same value will get you alot more computer.
 
keep the laptop and use it in class...it's 1000x's easier to take notes, and you'll be laughing while others are handwriting everything out. I use mine every day in class, and when it comes to exams I can sell my notes....
