Y'all know of any colleges within 30 minutes of a ski area, thinking penalty University of Utah or Western Colorado State, maybe even shit in Canada but absolutely nothing East coast, any suggestions?

Shit gotta add, I need a mountain with good big mountain terrain cause I'm moving from Junior Freeride Tour to Freeride World Qualifier.

UNR.

Ski squaw/alpine with us and we do the FWQ with the Freeride team. Im the Freeride ski captain so message me if you have any questions.

Thats a 50 Minute drive, ew. I live at a resort base and drive 20 min to get to school, driving that long to ski is ridiculous.

HA alright then good luck finding shit. We dont want your kook ass in tahoe anyway. Have fun spending 30 grand more at WCS for a 10 minute shorter drive.

99% of decent schools will make you sacrifice a little and drive a bit to get to the mountain, especially out west where things are more spread out. Even ski schools like UofU, MSU, CU and CSU all have 1hr+ drives to the mountain. All of which harbor quite a large ski community, so clearly it's worth the drive.

I've lived at a resort base my entire life before going to school at unr and can honestly say that there is nowhere that is as convenient as I had before going to college, and I felt the exact same way. However, you've got to learn that there are no schools that are as convenient as what you've had in the past and maybe you'll realize that driving isn't the biggest issue when it comes to getting a good education and trying to ski at the same time. From Unr to squaw it's usually around 45 minutes, but it's not a bad drive by any means. Also Rose is about a half hour away and offers great terrain.

On top of that if you're getting involved with fwq, the freeride team is great for that as we compete in the collegiate stops. Great group of dudes as well.

MSU - Bridger and Big Sky

U of U - Alta/Snowbird

UNR - Squaw/Tahoe

OP what are you trying to study? U of U has tons of options, the school has come a long way in 10 years since I started there. MSU is a solid school for a few majors. UNR seems to be the lowest on the list IMO, reno fucking sucks anyway, SLC isn't the best either but it's smaller, which is nice. Bozeman is a great small town with tons to do, probably the best out of the three for normal life stuff.

There are some whistler colleges right by the whistler base....

Sure there's tamwood and whistler adventure school but they aren't necessarily formal colleges. There's also Quest in Squamish (I have a buddy who goes there) and that's just a liberal arts college.

So if those schools fit what you want to do school-wise then go for it by all means. Just don't shell out all that cash just so you can ski whis and not go to school for what you want

Unless that's what you want to do, then go for it.

I was thinking university of Utah because I could take the winters off and go to school spring/summer

You can do that at any school. Also don't take class in the spring do fall.

The U's on semester so if you try to do that you're going to have to go to school from late January until august and will have to pack on units if you want to graduate even close to on time. I'd suggest taking some time and figuring out what you want to study/how you're going to go about doing it. Op how far out are you from applying to schools?

If you do 2 semesters a year at the U you should graduate on time. Doesn't matter what semesters you chose.

If you could manage 15+ units over a summer term then that would work, seems like that would suck though

Definitely difficult to find classes in the summer you need, all depending on your major. If you wanna study engineering, you will go to school in the fall and spring. If you study communications, you could go summer/fall, etc.

Same as doing those units in the fall/spring. I have a few buddies who do summers there and they say it's really not that bad at all

I guess I'm wrong, just my opinion in the first place regardless.

Theres def some schools that would suck to do a full semester load. The people I knew who did it were just catching up/getting ahead on generals or taking a pretty basic general such as computer science. Obviously depending on what year you are in or what major you are will determine how hard shit is.

If I can find a few classes and have the time, I might do some online summer classes next year while fighting fire. IDK if id be gone too much and away from my computer, but if they let me that will be nice cause then I will be ahead and ready to jump into all the classes I want to be in and none of this stupid general shit:)

The true solution here is to take less classes in the spring (tues/thurs or evening) do 12 credits (minimum for full time) and you have 5 days a week to ski. Then, take 1-2 classes in the summer, super easy to do, twice a week for a couple hours, NBD.

Hell my spring semester freshman year I took 3 night classes (all generals, 3, 3, and 4 credit hour classes, 3-4 hrs once a week at 6pm monday - wednesday) and two 1 credit sports classes(to stay full time) I could ski any day of the week.

Unless you have the potential to be a professional skier, just take class in the winter, it's not that big of a deal everyone does it, especially your freshman/sophomore years when you're banging out generals.

Pretty much nailed it. It's not that hard.

Stay with me next time you roll through Eheath we'll play Reno porch.

I ride Squaw before or after class depending on my schedule. Squaw is realistically 40-45 min away and Boreal is like 40. Mt.Rose and Northstar are 30. Reno doesn't suck. It's like Bend, OR. All hip with breweries and art and music. Tons of skateparks and close climbing and biking. The Level 1 guys came to Reno a couple years ago and stayed at the Moment house and didn't do anything to pass their time and now they talk a lot of shit on Reno. That house was gross so it would suck to be there in the first place. I chose UNR cause of the skiing if that helps sway your decision.

Crested butte is dope though and there's a bus as well. A little in the middle of nowhere. Never made it to monarch. Campus seems alright.

Just noticed the price thang. Is it expensive there? I've never actually attended just was hooking up with someone there last year.

Western is a state college so it's a bit cheaper for me...

Word. Not a lot of people there but big enough that it's still probably fun. Gunnison isnt a bad spot to be imo. If you go there make friends with people up in crusty butts so you can crash up there after skiing/drinking.

On fri/sat nights I wouldn't recommend driving back to gunnison unless you're damn sure you're sober. It's a gauntlet. Cops ferrr days. Not sure the logistics on that bus but if it's free or cheap it's a good deal.

Also there's no traffic there really unless you just get behind somebody slow and have cars in the passing zones. Crested Butte is one of my favorite towns.

Crested is prob my favorite mountain.

Lyndon State VT. basically a community college in east bumfuck VT but if you don't care about the actual school, its only about 10-15k a year, 15 mins from Burke, and about 45 mins-1hr from Jay Peak. You can get a college pass to both mountains for $200

Just live 30 minutes from the uni, then the mountain is only 20 minutes away

so where'd this spoiled bitchboi end up going to school?

did he get bullied off of the freeride team for being an insufferable brat yet?

I did that and it's great. Doing well in my degree and skiing lots. No idea what I'll do after, maybe kill myself.
