just wondering if anyone is a college dropout like myself. i hated school completely and got a job offer i couldnt pass up that didnt need a degree. if you dropped out what kind of job did you get yourself into if anything.

I dropped out last year and ski bummed in Utah, now I'm going back to school for manufacturing engineering and planning on starting a ski

tell me if you actually follow through with this because I love investing in small ski companies

im thinking about dropping out. schools just becoming a drag for me. might go play some pro hockey in a bullshit league.

what job did you take instead of going to school? also did it have anything to do with what you were studying? just curious

my buddy owns a bridge painting business so i am a project manager/vp for him. we do other bridge work so we fall under heavy highway construction. i was majoring in economics. but from what i learned in classes/books at school about how businesses and companies work is completely wrong with how real life works.

stand corrected, it can work its just really hard now to build a successful business. which really blows.

I'm a 43 year old man i decided to drop out of college back in the day to ski bum and pursue a small skiing company with me and two of my boys. Then after 3 years of skiing and my parents grew tired of spotting me some cash life hit hard and i realized i needed to work to feed my self clothe myself and put a roof over my head. so i started working full time and i get to ski maybe once a week but i mean im getting old and the vigor of skiing all day just seems less and less enticing as i go, and realizing i'd never go professional got me bummed out. My company made twenty t shirts i still have 15 if you want one. after i passed 30 years old i realized i really wasn't hooking up with any cute girls because after the party scene dies down and you realize the young girls at bars want a young guy with so much possible for his future rather than an aging 30 year old with a shitty job more enticing. And the 30 year olds they are falling for at the bars on the mountains are the guys with legit managing jobs for companies in the area and have money to throw around. So now after working for 13 years since i was 30 i haven't moved up in the job i'm at there just isn't much room to go up and my boss is 25 and a total prick. I still smoke trees and watch porn a lot though so thats chill. my knees pretty much gave out on me and i cant even afford a ski pass let alone the gear, i just really never go anymore. I dont have health insurance either so i'm afraid one bad spill on my skis i wont be able to afford my bills if that ever did happen. So i'm single, working a shitty job, living day by day, depressed, cold, and my siblings all went to college for 4 years and are doing amazing. my little brother actually went to a mountain college so he could ski all he wanted and got a degree after college he worked lifts with me and had a great four years then he got tired of doing that and while i stayed back to feed myself he went and got a job away from the mountain that pays great met a milf of a wife and he still can get up to the mountain about 4 times a week after taking a day off work. he has a 401 k and great health insurance....

so do the four years of really not that hard work pay off in college? yes absolutely.
not to be a negative nancy but thats the realistic view on this. I'm not a 43 year old man but this is the reality of that. not that this is what happens to everyone but i mean still. go to college put in 4 years get a degree THENNN at that point do whatever your little heart desires and start that company or go live off the land and find yourself no matter what you can always fall back on that degree and settle down when the time comes... because it will, and fast. I hate that you have to have a college degree to be succesful in this country but it the truth so live with it put in your time then go live life.
realness.

Dropped out cuz my teacher was a cunt and was constantly calling me out so i said fuck it and im joining the military Special Forces Candidate. but ill eventually be back in school but the government will pay for it instead of my parents.

i dropped out and got a job with the north face. did that for a couple years then i quit, decided to go back to school, and am now working at CFS and attending classes. I'll probably get 100+ days on snow this winter...Its great being a ski bum and knowing that i still have options

Didn't exactly drop out.. funding got cut for me so I'm in the DEP with the navy atm, I'll be doing night classes until my 4 years is up then back to school for me. It did feel like I was paying 16k per year for bullshit tho, I'm glad the gov't is gonna be paying for it all next time.

Dropped out and moved to Austria to ski. Best thing I've ever done. I'm taking a distance learning course to be a personal trainer so I still got options.

I got a job offer I couldn't refuse and dropped out. Arthur Anderson asked me to work on Enron's books, whatever the fuck that meant....lol

Dropped out after2 years. I just knew it was the right decision.

Found a killer internship in Shanghai, China. And after 6 month I am about to get my boss's job and become Marketing Manager.

So it turned out pretty good for me.. Not saying it will for everyone.

But college isn't the only option. Experience is now valued as much if not more when hiring.

The thing with US, is that almost everyone can pretty much easily get to college, which means that the added value of a bachelor or master is decreasing rapidly.

A friend of mine went over to Germany like last year to play a season with one of their leagues. They paid him pretty decently aswell. Got a free place to stay and tickets paid too. Its worth it just to travel, look into doing that dude!

I dropped out when I was 20. Went and worked at the local ski resort in the winter. Did a few construction/landscaping jobs in the summer. Did that for a few years.

I got sick of that life and got a real job. Worked my way up, and now I'm a supervisor and senior technician for a civil engineering firm.

dropped out currently paying bills for the year and a half of school I did. 500 smacks a month, with a very poor paying job at a ski resort in the winter and a decent paying job at a national park in the summer. Planning on hitting up the books again as soon as I get residency in Utah. word?

Dropping out after this semester to work and ski bum, will go back in a year or so after I get residency up here and have a career goal. Not feeling school at the moment.

pro hockey and bullshit league dont work together. its gonna be hard whatever PRO league it is.

I dont drop out i just take a lot of W's hahahaha

Thoroughly considering it. I just don't like the lifestyle. And people think I'm weird because I resent how rude they are. Fucking Long Island dirtbags.

agreed. i basically had zero friends in school bc I commuted but all I know is everyone at the school I went to were ignorant assholes. so I'm kinda glad I didn't make many friends. everyone wanted to be in competition for fucking class.

thats what i was kinda thinking. the leagues over in europe are pretty legit, and just to get to travel and live somewhere new for awhile would be a nice experience. i'll look into it some more.
