College at Boulder or East Coast?

I live in boulder and it is a sick town, plus cu got rated the number one party school in the nation and its physics, bio and engineering schools are in the top thirty in the whole country.CU Boulder is also only 2 hours away from insane skiing (Breck, Keystone, Loveland, Copper, A-Basin, Winter Park) and if you ski winter park you don't have to go through the eisenhower tunnel and can skip all the traffic. Tons of pros go to CU though, like Peter Olenick and Jon Brogan so there is obviously a reason for that. If you are looking at anything besides physics/science and engineering you should probably go to east coast. Or go to Mines, 2nd highest out of school salary in the nation, phenomenal engineering program, and it's only an hour away from all the resorts. The only problem with mines is the 4:1 male to female ratio, really sucks, but CU is pretty close.

eheath, do you get paid to defend the U or dropping $100k on it in the last four years for a worthless piece of paper has caused you to do this?
I don't know where you are getting these stats but they are completely wrong. It isn't a 'top 100' school or even a 'top 100' business school. Engineering and Med school isn't in the top 5 and it might be second best in some form of very specific research when the it is cut down to some inapplicable level. So stop repeating this bullshit to your parents to try to rationalize your decision to drop out of state money to go to some shit school.
Of course you think the parties there are awesome, you came from Montana and now you live there and don't know anything else.
With a non-engineering degree from CU or U of U outside of Denver/SLC you are pretty fucked trying to find a job if you don't have a good personal connection/get some job based on nepotism. A business degree from those places carries no weight on the west coast, it's equivalent to a CSU degree.
If you want an degree that actually provides some value you should look into the UC schools, the schools are far better, I got reject by a couple and I had good grades/good SAT yet still made it into DU/CU with money after wiping my ass with their applications.
After moving to Socal I'm glad I didn't go to school in CA since I could actually focus on school in CO due to the busted girls and not having an ocean near by. If you are claiming girls are hot at Boulder or The U, you are fucking retarded. The xanaxed out, drunk 35 year old moms at my local dive bar are hotter still hotter than anything available in CO, let alone Utah.
So in summation, CO is pretty shitty but fuck Utah.

dude you are a straight fucking retard if you think anything you just said has any merit. seriously, you dont know what the fuck youre talking about man. you clearly have not done any sort of research into your claims that the u is not rated like heath says it is, because it is. i would think your fancy degree thats so much better than one from utah would have at least taught you to look shit up before you sound like a fucking moron.
and no hot girls in utah? or colorado? you must be gay, or you just live with your parents still. either way you should try to suck less dick in the future, because the lack of oxygen getting to your lungs has clearly made you delusional.

haha this whole statement is completely fucked. Yes, utah is a top 100 school, yes its business school is top 30(might be top 40, i know its one of the two) and yes their med school is top 5. I dunno how their engineering program stacks up to others, i never said it was top 5. And it is the #2 research school in the country, behind MIT. Its not bullshit my parents tell me, im fucking 22 you retard, these are real stats that i have seen from many different professors and other news sources. You realize that the U wasn't this good 4 years ago when i started school, right? you realize that it is progressing as a school.

Also, saying the U has no worth is stupid, any 4 year degree at a decent school is gonna get you a much better job than if you didn't go to school. There are so many schools in the united states that are worst than the U man, i know you hate utah but why are you denying straight facts?

Also, its not as easy to get into the U anymore, they're cracking down on it. Granted it's still not as hard as other good schools, its not like before where you could shit on your application and they'd accept it.

And if you don't think there are any hot girls in utah, you my friend are very mistaken, thats all im gonna say about that. No hot girls in CO either? and you're hating on CU? doesn't make any sense. Of course there are more sluty hot girls in Socal, its fucking socal. Fortunately, your opinion doesn't matter to me at all, because you're a retard and you are extremely bias against utah.

How am I denying straight facts? You're the one making them up. Look at US News and World Report Rankings. U of U - ranked 129 overall, business school - #80, engineering - #60, Med school - #54 (research) and #26 (primary care). So instead of reciting what you read of a pamphelet maybe you should spend 2 minutes to look it up. Shit school with shit kids.
Have a 2.5 and 1100 on the SATs? Go to the U

And how the fuck do you think your the #2 'research school' behind MIT in the nation? Are you shitting me? Think about that statement.
I don't know how you're cutting up the data but considering the U isn't in the top 100 schools for federally financed R&D I can assure you it isn't true unless it's broken down into some inapplicable category.
You kids need to wake up and do a couple minutes of research before saying bullshit that some professor with a U PhD said to you.
Shit, I got more econ papers published last year than most of your econ professors and I actually work for a living.

Where are you gettings your numbers? did you just spit them out of your asshole, provide a link. Your shit that you are looking at could be from years ago.

i can vouch for the blond hair blue eyed awesomeness at the U...and not hot girls at CU? hahaa plenty of sexy girls
i dont know what school your going to thats so elite, snowblademasterofcockbut my guess is you get no pussy

I've actually never heard of US News in my life. And even 129 out of what, over a thousand higher level education schools in the country, isn't that bad. I dunno where they think the med school is 50 and 24, its one of the best in the country. Again, i ve never heard "US news". I guess were suppose to believe anything thats on the internet, right? After exploring that wesbite, 1/2 of the schools they have listed aren't even ranked, SUPER legit source IMO...

And I plan on pursuing grad school, because yeah my comm degree isn't gonna get me into shit but maybe an advertising angency, which i don't want to do.

As for your second comment, i dont use a gopro? i dont get how that was suppose to be be funny and OMG IM FAT LOL GOOD ONE your jokes just get funnier and funnier every time you post them. I don't get what you have against utah but maybe you should just butt out of the conversation next time, you're clearly way too bias.

you are so detached from reality if you think a degree determines future success.
you arent even close to as smart as you think you are.

Why would i get a masters in marketing? My three things im interested in are video production, web design (dont need to go to more school for this really, just need to make more connections) and communication law. The last would be the hardest, most challenging of the three, but after taking a comm law class, it has perked my interests. A masters in film from a good film school would be the other option, guess we'll see what happens. Thanks for trying to assume my life and being completely wrong!

also, you aint answer my question..
what school is it that you go to thats going to give you automatic success, a 6 figure job, and pussy?

stanford.

and eheath, US News is like the most reputable college ranking site on the internet. the numbers on there are legit. i dont have anything against utah but that website is definitely right

every thread about colleges ends up like this. thy are both decent schools and each have their strong points but if you want to go to college to ski then heath is right go to the U. but if you want to be an enginer then go to CU and you still can ski just harder to get to good mountains.

This thread continues to make me laugh. College/university rankings don't mean anything. It's like the Buyers' Guides in Powder/Freeskier/Skiing/Ski. The ratings are not typically earned, but rather paid for. In most cases. Not all. But definitely in the case of the US News & World Report ratings, in some publications The Princeton Review., etc. Overall the rankings don't mean much. It's pretty easy to tell what is a top-tier school and what is the bottom of the ladder.

from my thinking, (I'm only in 11th grade so don't bash) and I also live in new york, but UVM is less than 30 mins away from stowe, and its a good school for academics

Uhhhhhh, dude, just an FYI, the US News and World Reports is been one of the more respected college rankings around. It's kinda the gold standard for college rankings. While I don't think you can fully rank colleges, this is the ranking that most people go by. It is also a long time news magazine that has been around for over 75 years. How the fuck have you not heard of it before???

You sure the U is getting you book learned well..?

To quell the arguments between the UofU and CU Boulder, lets agree both these colleges are respectable in their own manners. Neither is a Harvard or Yale, but both allow one to get a degree. That is what matters in the long run correct? Thats why many of us attend college. A degree may not mean more money, but it certainly opens doors.

Both these schools also allow skiing, and thats what matters to all of us correct? Lets leave it at that. Theres always going to be a whos better argument between Utah and Colorado

dude, playboy recently ranked cu the number one party school in the nation. cold facts. plus i have taken music lessons at cu for a couple years and the sorority girls there are fine as hell. CU is a great school for women, partying, skiing and academics. but, once again if you want to do anything besides science, architecture, engineering, (such as english, business, advertising, etc.) go somewhere else!!!

also in the article " "I'm disappointed we didn't do better in Playboy's rankings of the atomic, molecular and optical physics programs -- which U.S. News and World Report ranks us as No. 1, tied with MIT."

california is also a good choice in case you havent considered it, pick any school, like UC berkely, claremont mckenna, harvey mudd, usc, and others and they will probably be within 3 hours of great skiing, either squaw or tahoe up north, or bear mtn in socal. Needless to say the academics in california are probably better than colorado, and you can also go surfing, which is pretty fun.

the state schools and UC's are different systems in california. the UC's are the better ones, and ive heard that they want more out of state recently cause they get more money. but yeah theyre ridiculous, i got rejected from UC Berkeley and UCLA and waitlisted at SD and i have a pretty good GPA and resume

colorado state university in fort collins. im telling u its awesome. so much funn and skiing is like 2 hours from the school but whatever its still worth it

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=uc+berkeley+to+squaw+valley&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1123&bih=648&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

okay....uc berkely is 3 hours and change. plus if you want to claremont mckenna, top 20 in liberal arts, it is right next to harvey mudd, less than nintey minutes from bear. far better than colorado, while same distance from a pretty ill park

On the east coast, like most people have been saying, definitely go for UVM - from what I hear the ski/snowboard scene there is unreal. You are within a short driving distance from some of the best resorts on the east coast, and you can chose a resort based on your preference for skiing (powder, trees, terrain park)

Also on the east coast definitely consider McGill University in Montreal. Huge skiing scene. 40 minutes from Bromont, 40mins from Sauveur/Avila, 1.5hrs from Tremblant,

uvm is dope. ive toured their campus and its sick.

personally im poing to plymouth cuz i dont hav the grades for uvm =( welll nor the money so i wouldnt of went their if i got in anyways
