Coffee Recommendations

We just started a coffee club at work and everyone is supposed to bring in some coffee like in a casual rotation to keep the supply stocked. We are kind of a Folgers truck stop type of group so I am trying to up our game a little bit and ordering some legit coffee from Amazon or whatever. It is Seattle so we have all had every blend of Starbucks whatever, I am looking for something good and unique.
 
You are trying to tell me that you live in FUCKING SEATTLE and all you know is Starbucks and Folgers? You dont deserve my recommendation.
 
Find a coffee shop and buy a lighter roast. Most people are only familiar with darker roasted coffees which are great but the roast sometimes covers up a lot of the more subtle flavors. Coffee beans are actually pretty sweet before they're roasted so those flavors come through better. Light roasts also secrete less of their natural oils so they can have very herbal flavors.
 
I had Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee last weekend and it was pretty good! Its a lil expensive but you will stunt on your coworkers.
 
We always got average coffee in rotation at my job, we decided to all get a fancier bag and try out multiple. Someone brought it Death Wish (HIGH caffeine) and made it under the guise of regular coffee... it was awesome to ride the wave in. I'd try it again, but it would suck if someone died.

When I was visiting Seattle there was this one place. I'm not sure what it's called, but I know it's near MoPOP. It's like a Radio Station with a cafe and a record store inside. Anyways, back to the point.

They have good coffee and they make this really good coffee softserve icecream. I highly reccomend.

Really? I feel like most people drink lighter coffee that's practically see through.

Pretty sure you're talking about La Marzocco. Can confirm the ice cream is solid.

Anyway, to OP, I'm not a big fan of Vivace itself, but they have some damn good coffee beans. Perhaps pick some up since you're in Seattle.

Probably because they suck at making coffee... I'm talking about the darkness of the actual bean before grinding and eventually brewing not how dark the coffee physically is.

That's the same bean roasted six different ways. Most people are only familiar with medium to darker roasts like the three on the right but if you want to try something totally different try one of the beans on the left.

That's really interesting because from a dumbass view like my own, I've always thought darker roasts were more intense = more flavor. I prefer dark beer ( stouts, porters) for example, so I dont think I've actually ever bought a light roast. Def gonna try it.

Dude one of my buddies from highschool works for them too, I think in Saratoga? I never realized how huge deathwish became until I searched " coffee" on Amazon and they were #1 unsponsered result. It gets my tits going.

If you had to compare coffee to beer, dark roasts would be closest to stouts in terms of flavor characteristics which is why you probably prefer that.

At least with nice beans, a lighter roast will better show off the coffee flavors (fruits, berries, spices etc) versus just having a lot of "roasted" flavor.

OP, go to Seattle/Ballard/Capitol Coffee Works for the good stuff. It's expensive, but the best in Seattle IMO.

So two people have said sleepy monk. Is this some sort of conspiracy? Did you guys like go to Sleepy Monk together? I realize Washington is not that far from Cannon Beach. Do you just drink it at the Oregon Coast or do you actually find this stuff in your town? Pretty OK stuff. Big Wave Cafe in Manzanita is a good place for a big breakfast and Sleepy Monk is the house brew there.

I had it at a little pub here in MN when I went to lunch with coworkers. It was so good I drank so much I was wired all afternoon. Its a European coffee that at that time a couple years ago you could only order it online.

I regularly drink Folgers. Most gas station coffee is gross

Sleepy Monk and Middle Fork is about the same for espresso roast,old/same owners,same roast. But finding Sleepy Monk isn’t super easy as most of the good coffee roasters charge a premium per pound and most retailers don’t wanna pay that. Couple places around Seattle use it and my friends cafe has it east of Seattle. You can get it at “down pour” though if you’re in the city.

I probably know more about coffee than most of you people here...

I recommend a medium-dark bag of George Howell coffee. Anything he makes is amazing. Also, it needs to be roasted within 3 weeks of it being brewed. And ground immediately before brewing, to a specific coarseness depending on your elevation.

Lmak I almost did.

But really find a local coffee roaster and get the beans there. Grind before brewing only what you need and based on how you'll brew. Best way to go.
 
I think it would be cool to feature coffees from local roasters in ski towns, do a little display section or something neat like that in a coffee shop.

Park City Coffee Roasters with that hazelnut stuff is the best for early morning ski commutes. Atticus on main st is pretty good too, a lil steep in price, but pink elephant also kicks ass

Oso Negro. Its fair trade, but its roasted in Nelson, BC. I know people who dont even like coffee that will drink it black.

kicking horse. Roasted in Kicking Horse BC, its now sold across Canada. You wanna smuggle something? This one is worth it.

Strumpaths. Boldest coffe Ive ever had. At 30$ a 1/2 pount it better be. Im not sure where its from. But its almost like crewing the bean itself with a pleasant taste

God I love waking up in the morning to brew a boiling hot cup of dirtwater, am I right guys? I love the smell of the focking bogwater. I don't give a shit about milk or sugar, I drink that shit raw like our ancestors. I went to the local coffee shop today (I go everyday, by the way), and I saw some stupid skinny-necked journalist boy pouring milk into his cup of shitwater. Are you fucking kidding me? I grab him by his stupid blue collar and say, "Listen here you pencil-necked, acne-covered, no-ass-getting, sensitive sack of shit, if I don't see you pour out that cup of DOGSHIT and get yourself a fresh brew of manwater, I'm gonna smash you like a coffee bean, grind you down into a fine powder and drink you myself!". Here's a quick history lesson boys : There was this 9th-century Ethiopian sheep herder called Kaldi, right? He was chilling on his farm, minding the sheep when he noticed they were eating some weird looking beans. Fast-forward a few hours and these crazy sons of bitches were still awake in the farm at night. They were not sleeping. They were having a fucking rave in the farm, they were having wrestling matches and RKO'ing eachother, can you believe that shit? Anyway, he noticed the energizing effects of coffee beans when his sheep would nibble on them so he decided to take it to a monk in a nearby monastery who promptly decided to throw the beans into a fire, after which an enticing aroma bellowed. These guys just discovered brown gold. They just created man fuel. They just started the rise of humanity. If it wasn't for them, people like Einstein, Newton and Pythagoras wouldn't have the energy to become as smart as they were. Did you think they were doing all of those equations without first drinking a big cup of manwater? Y'know, if I was a superhero, I would just be me armed with a massive backpack tank of coffee, injecting pure shitwater into my veins all the time, making me an unstoppable force of strength. Sometimes I'll drink a cup of dirtwater and I'll start just destroying shit for no reason because I would convince myself I'm immortal. Hmm, I wonder what would happen if I mixed in some cocaine...

Honestly there's some teas out there thats got better quality cafien buzzes than harsh coffe but each ti their own i guess
