Cody Townsend's Epic Line

Searchbarred, found nothing. Can it really be that there's not a thread on Newschoolers about this line?

I nearly shit my pants watching it. But in a good way.

If there was a rail at the end I'd have been impressed.

But seriously that was epic as FUCK.

I think we all may be surprised at how many of our clueless non-skier relatives will ask us if we've seen the crazy tunnel skier guy on the yootubes over the Holidays. That line hits to all fences. You don't have to even be a skier to appreciate it.

It was sick enough to make my local news earlier this week

The headline was "Most Insane Ski Line Stunt Ever" .. lol

Haha this.. It already started..

Kinda funny that Rice just HAD to land the motorcade of Red Bull helis to pick up the phone and carve a moment for himself out of CT's stratospheric viral blast to try to claim that real quick haha

Nice click grab T. I see you. The hustle is real boys and girls.

This couldn't be further from the truth. The motivation for Travis to call me and produce this piece was because the internet and industry insider chatter that was ramping up into something that was creating a false drama. He genuinely wanted to chat, share stories of each other's runs and see how his and I's experiences were similar or different. He's a humble mountain man that wanted to talk about it and the tone of the interview shows that. Hell, he straight out says I rode it better than him, is that not plain enough to show you that he isn't trying to grab a slice of the media pie? The fact is, only Travis and I know what it's like to ride that line and feel that feeling, so if photographers, media and internet bandwagoners are talking shit, neither him or I care because we're the only ones in the world that know the true meaning of that line. Everyone else is trying to put stats and credit to it, we were just trying to relish and share a rad fucking moment in our lives.

First off, props obviously! From the interview it seems like Ejack rode it too?

well said man, the stoke is real

the way it works when me and one of my buddies is checking out a gnarly feature is that one person will have to guinea pig it, and, assuming he doesn't die in the attempt, the next person is obligated to do it better. It sounds like that's exactly what happened here, just that Rice and Townsend didn't know about each other. The point is that Rice is ballsy for doing it first, and Townsend is ballsy for doing it faster. Everybody earns some mojo.

Well that's cool, it was honestly really hard to figure out what the vibe was in that exchange as an outsider. In the beginning of the article he actually said he was pissed that everybody was loving your shot and "had to reel in his ego" so it was kind of difficult to discern whether he was "trying to put you in your place" or share a legit bro high 5 over that monster of a line. I haven't seen anybody talking shit but kudos for shooting down the drama plane in any case, that's cool to hear.

Anyways, glad to see ya nab a shitload of exposure right before the holidays. Stoked for you!

Don't worry, you're not the only one that misinterpreted it as such, I did the same. It was tough to tell the tone from just seeing the text.

Sucks that there is drama around this.

Its like people think that these newly realized outside factors affect their enjoyment of watching that line be skied.

Nothing has changed since when we first saw it. Its just as gnarly, just as scary, just as aesthetic and just as WTF!

I think that's just it, there is no drama and there shouldn't be. People have hit the same lines all over the planet, so that aspect shouldn't be that big a deal to anyone IMO. I don't think it takes anything away from the line in the OP. This was a beautifully hit and filmed line and it's KILLING it across the planet so the politics are magnified. I honestly didn't understand why you even mentioned that TR had previously ridden it until I saw that article CT posted.

was really hard to figure out the vibe out that interview. to me it seemed like travis was really bummed about the whole thing, even though i guess i would be too. his shot won't drop for another year, and he stopped halfway through. would suck to ride a line like that then have someone ride it better and drop the footage a year earlier.

The vibe I got from the article:

That moment when Brainfarm realizes that the best line in their three year project is now going to end up getting cut from the video. Maybe the footage will end up in the vault with Andy and Pep's X Games runs.

just because it's not on film, doesn't mean it wasn't dropped before them... kent just posted that jeremy nobis and another guide actually tipped it first... but, in the "age of media", i guess it doesn't count, unless you shoot it!!

from kent kreitler~

Anyway I was just loving that Nobis just chirped in to set the record straight, on some people who were all riled up about someone else riding it first. "Don't want to rain on your parade. Myself and Jon hunt skied that line without film but as guides. You were not the first but hooray for doing it. Was my home for many years. It wasn't a first."

but, cody did really slay that... props man!

And the plot thickens!

That is awesome! Of course Nobi got in there first! In all reality, I did find it a little hard to believe that not one single person had even chipped their way down that line because it's in a zone that is heavily trafficked by the heli-op out there. I mean, it's a gnarly gnarly line but a lot of gnarly people have been out there before, most of all Nobis. Case closed. TIme to keep skiing.

Haha that's awesome!!

^Was hoping this was unearthed footage of Nobis skiing the line. Turned out to be a nice educational piece on the iconic Pyramid descent. 7/10 mildly satisfied would recommend.
