this is the video that won a full internship at CoC this summer

how the hell did this win? abe krieger and mike blatt only won gloves, and i won an 8 day pass with no lodging. this is meant to complain. i think this is not only unfair but abes, mikes, and my edits were very well done. you can bitch me out all you want, but i am pissed.

hopefully you can see where i am coming from.

there is no way i can afford paying my way to stay in whistler just to hit the park. I am a cinematography major, not looking to learn how to ski from pros.

One side of me says that the guys who went to CoC and took time away from their camp experience to film deserved the grand prizes they got,

but another side of me says that the judging was straight whack. If it were entirely based on simply the edit itself, The contest woulda been different. I don't wanna say mine was by any means better than anyone elses, but to lose to some of those other edits really chaps my ass.

Still gotta thank CoC for hooking it up with the gloves and pack. Pretty stoked on free gloves and pack!
 
I agree, i still want to thank CoC and Ken for supporting the ski community and giving up there prizes. Very generous.
 
I disagree, The first edit showed the whole camp experience while the last 3 showed mainly skiing and boarding. So as the person running the camp wouldn't you pick a video that shows the whole camp and not just one section of it? They picked that video because it represents the whole camp and what they have to offer. Great for marketing/advertising.
 
I really liked the winning edit. Good song choice and had the best vibe. No offense but the other edits didn't really get me stoked on the camp, but were just good edits. Not to mention the first had a lot more snowboarding than the others. Definitely had a skate/snowboard vibe and appealed to those people more. Add to that the other points^ and I have no problem with coc's choice.
 
My friend and I won the 2500 Oakley gear prize! So Stoked! (I filmed glacier stuff/He filmed other stuff and edited). Congrats to Mike and all the other NSers who won a prize.
 
No doubt your edit was sick! but as stated above the whole camp experience part of the winners edit is probably why it was chosen over yours.
 
Ill tell you why the 1st place one got it: They included shots of a vitamin water bottle (which I think is a COC sponsor) and they had a good variety of shots that showed all there was to do at camp, which is what COC wants people to see.
 
If you truly like filming, why not spend a portion of your summer filming up on top of a glacier? Sounds like a sweet prize to me...

Its a stupid fucking contest anyways. Who hires a film intern off of there ability to take random shots and make a video? any 13 year old could've made that winning video, it was literally probably 1 video track with two audio tracks and then a song. You guys got completely fucked but more reason to say fuck them and be glad you're not working for someone who picked that video as "the best".
 
That is what is going to annoy me the most. Someone who used mostly footage that the CoC filmers got shows no cinematic talent whatsoever. Now at 14 year old gets to go and film for some of the summer. Doesn't make sense to me. Someone who showed some filming talent should have been chosen to win the first place.
 
winning edit showed how much fun camp is while the others were just edits

if they were to make the winning edit an ad, which one would be the most successful?

the one with the most stoke and shows the best of camp, not one that only shows people doing crazy tricks. imo abes was the best piece of skiing and videography, but there wasn't much energy behind it while the winning edit made me really want to go to this camp
 
you guys straight mad bros, atleast you got to go COC, and yes i do agree, the first video showed more what COC has to offer, but it set it self apart from just" this is my camp - sick skiing footage," COC is pretty wack but they are hooking my firend alex haydenluck up with $2500 worth of oakley, when he is sponsered by Smith aha. hopefully he gives me some shit
 
1st edit is better promo vid for CoC which is why it won
last 3 were more enjoyable edits in the traditional sense, but not really good promo for CoC
 
THIS! I totally understand why that video won. I agree that you guys made technically better edits but that video was an amazing depiction of the ENTIRE camp and not just the skiing or snowboarding aspect. To me it had the content, the flow and the stoke that is what COC was looking for. I enjoyed all of the videos and you all have awesome unique editing styles but you just gotta deal with the fact that the video that met what they where looking for won.

I won gloves so im stoked, everyone should be thankful that they actually do these contests and give away free stuff instead of complaining all the time thanks coc for the stuff
 
i would agree, as much as the other edits were good, the vibe, song and whole feel to the first edit was a winner
 
What is the purpose of those videos? To get more people to register, so that COC can make more money. If the likes of you two proclaimed "rightful winners" had that philosophy in mind when you made the videos you probably would have won.
 
i really hope they revoke your prize you ungrateful p.o.s . Winner deserved it.
