the olympics.

I am watching tv and guess what it is......pingpong.

That's right national ping pong, if that is an olympic sport pipe and slopestyle skiing should def. be.

Why is it that we have to make shirts and groups to have our sport in the olympics? Nobody takes ping pong seriously, kids just play it for fun.

I just find it really gay how are sport is not recognized as an olympic sport yet fucking ping pong is.

anyways who agrees with me?

It's called table tennis. It's a huge deal in China's modern history, you have no idea. Go and read about it.

there was one day they were listing all the events. youd be suprised at some of them. like badmiton? haha are you serious more people like watching badmiton then skiing. i dont get it

On the bejing website games it say there is a North American team, that is not a huge sport in Canada or USA.

So if it's a big deal in China it's automatically in the olympics??? Skiing is a pretty big deal in North America and it's not in the olympics?

Whatever. It's been around over a hundred years and millions of people play worldwide. Compare that to competitive pipe skiing which has barely been around 10 and 90% of the world doesn't even know it exists. A lot of you guys going on and on about this need a reality check.

And also, look at BMX. Just been introduced as an Olympic event after over 30 years. Freestyle skiing is still very much in its youth, enjoy the sport while it's still the way it is.

a lot more people play ping ping than ski pipe, like .5% of the us (if that) has skied a halfpipe. i bet at least 90% of people have played ping pong

just one more thing asians can beat us at. but seriously cause of population maybe has something to do with it

few hundred mil < couple billion they win.

off topic but what about golf? we've been playing it for 100+ years? still not in the olympics

bike racing is so boring to watch unless someone falls pipe skiing is way more entertaining and would draw a massive crowd freestyle is cool to my dad did that in the olyimpics but i cnat understand why pipe skiing isnt in the olyimpics if snowboarding is

Table tennis has been in the Olympics for a while. The Chinese decided to focus on winning it because they couldn't win anything else.

But pipe should really be in. 2014 is way to far away.

events are chosen based on universal popularity. ping pong or table tennis if you want to call it that is huge in all the asian countries, korea, vietnam, japan, china, the list goes on.. don't get me wrong. i really want halfpipe skiing to be entered into the olympics but its going to take a lot of time, and a lot more then a facebook group...

not to mention, in the olympics there is madatory drug testing. and for this summer olympics in particular they have made a huge crack down on the use of drugs (even if they're not steroids) obvously its pretty damn easy to pass a piss test for weed, but these state of the art drug testing facilities would probably use blood and or hair tests which could raise a lot of problems for many of skiings top skiers...

Is syncro diving really needed? I feel it's kinda weak compared to a lot of the other sports. There are multiple individual diving events and you don't see syncro gymnastics.

Ya I see it as just another event within the snowboarding program. They already have the pipe set up, it would be easy to add skiing.

Thankfully, I dont give a flipping fuckshit about the summer olympics, but if we want slopestyle and pipe to be in the winter olypmics, we need a legitimate world tour period~

Didn't you answer your own question there? Why should it be in the olympic with other irrelevant sports? To give a new, irrelevant status? You want the olympics to mean something? Give the germans some renewed nationalism, statewide aryan eugenics and hold them in Berlin. Then clone Jesse Owens and do that whole thing again.

The olympics mean nothing anymore and would not benefit the sport besides a monetary shot every 4 years from sponsors who don't give a shit about its direction or growth. It will not be beneficial. The X games are fucking retarded enough as it is. Fucking Mountain Dew, even though they are kind of fading, and its progeny Red Bull. Yea they might put fund cool events here and there, but it is worth them harvesting bullshit action sports images and personas and using them for marketing purposes? They should stick to sports that suit them like freestyle motocross, that is "extreme" and has hordes of dumb hicks following it for that reason and purchasing products based on the aura a 2 dollar drink is giving off. If you want an energy drink, buy a sparks (only acceptable if you're a girl, or under 18). I don't know exactly where I'm going, or have gone with this. But I am sure there is some semi-logical hatred in that rant.

Am I the only skier that doesn't give a fuck if pipe skiing makes it to the Olympics? Call me old fashion, but i think that freestyle skiing is more of a fun and relaxing activity than a competitive sport.

I just finished watching diving on the olmypics and damn, the nit-pickyness (not a word) of the judges sorta pissed be off. I wouldn't skiing to be judged in the same way. Unfortunately, in order to make pipe skiing an Olympic sport, it too would have to be subjected to this same level of scrutiny.

Even though current judging is bias ridden and inconsistent, the skier who does the coolest looking shit usually wins. I know there is always controversy about why skier x should have beaten skier z because he had more rotations in his run etc., but i think people are going to be alot more upset when a Martin Misof(sp?) like skier beats out a wallischy (the correct adjective to describe anything steeztacluar) type skier. I'm not sure if everyone has seen it, but there is a video somewhere if an aerials skier doing 1260s in the pipe penciled as shit on this second day. Should he be representing pipe skiing to the general public?

Individual style wouldn't count for jack shit in the olympics. Look at aerials, do you like that kind of judging? It would be that same shit in the half pipe. At least in current competitions style counts.

To end this rant freestyle skiing is meant to be free of rules and ragulations, and at the same time embrace individual style.

Fuck the F.I.S., Ski by your own rules.

(ok, let the flame fest begin)

I totally agree with Broken Bones and this dude
I mean wtf air pistol?

Oh look, I have a gold medal from standing on a mark, aiming a stick at a target, and pulling the trigger!! You can't even tell when they shoot because it has no recoil

its ridic

whaaaat? Dude beach volley is like one of the best sports to be watched on the olympics right now and it has a world tour its pretty fucking technical, y the hell would it not be in the olympics??

Air carabine shooting on the other hand is fucking stupid

i totally understand why sports like ping pong and badminton are in the olympics

they are huge every where else in the world

but some sports like equstrian im not so sure about

i would love to see skiing in the olympics but until some more about it is established than im not sure we will see it before 2014

you know, its not onlly about the official competition. its more about giving freestyle skiing a shit load of new money which means that more pros could live off of skiing and that core companies that will get hopefully get a shit load of exposure and make more money can then offer us new and better products.

And comparing pros like that is pretty lame, martin misof knows how to spin, big deal. Hes also has some nice slower rotations with good grabs. Watch enjoy n get off of wallishes dick

I have seen enjoy and his mini-segment sucked. Ill get off wallisch's

dick when he stops incinerating onlookers eyes with his

style-monopoly. Regardless, you'd be a fool to think they didn't

exemplify two different styles.

Calling me out for using an

example of unquestionably the, or at least one of the, most styletastic

park skiers around, is a misguided attempt to jump onto the

"hate-on-wallisch-fans" bandwagon.

In regards to the Olympics bringing in money for new pros, i never denied that it would bring in more cash. The pros receiving it however wouldn't be throwing cork 5s, they would be throwing down pencil 1620s because they would yield a higher score. Dumonts already bad enough, i don't want to lose the sport I love to a bunch of gayper gymnasts.

Oh, and I'm on *Wallischs's dick", not "wallishes dick".

are you fucking retarted??? "the olympics mean nothing" the only example i need to give you is michael phelps... he has already made history as one of the greatest athletes of a single sport ever to live (if he hasn't already) and has potential to do so throughout the olympics. This olympics he has not only recieved a gold medal in every event he has competed in, he has set a world record as well. by the end of this olympics he has the potential to get 8 golds which will give him a career 14 gold medals.

that is something truly fucking amazing dude, and before anyone goes and says swimmings all the same, think about this. every stroke is different, calling all the strokes in swimming the same would be like calling every skiing discipline the same.

you need to open your eyes.

wtf i wats watching the other day and they had womens air pistol shooting...wat the fuck is that?

oh and why the fuck should anyone care if pipe kids like dumont get an extra million on their annual salary, and parts of that from government taxes? so he can expand his "empire" to make some super cool one piecers?

anyone who's doing pipe in the xgames is already making a living off the sport, and i can guarantee you won't see a different crew of participants at the olympics. may the rich get richer

just want to point out that i'm down with tanner hall getting fucking loaded with cash

so yeah let the olympics happen for skiing, but thall better win

No one is going to give a shit about Michael Phelps a month from now after he's been on Letterman, the only remembrance will be the odd commercial here and there with him as their spokesperson.

do not comment on what you have no fucking clue about.

i am a FIS credited judge and the scoring criteria for pipe is nothing like it is for aerials

for the last time FIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE IOC NOT ALLOWING PIPE SKIING if they did, don't you think they'd want to push it through to gain support for the FIS pipe circuit?

Yes, skiers like Dumont and Tanner would get more money, but with a large increase in the number of people supporting twintip skiing, more skiers would hopefully be able to concentrate mainly on filming(i.e. snowboarding) rather than sponsors wanting primarily "competition skiers."

well i'm not an aspiring swimmer, but i do dream to one day take my skiing somehwere... so do i forget about everybody that influences me in skiing a month after they've achieved something great?? the answer is no. i'm sure phelps will revolutionize swimming back here in the states and that there's 10 year old kids that swim and look up to him and hang up his poster just like all sorts of kids do with all the ski pros.. just because it doesn't mean anything to you donesn't mean that it should be forgotten.

i myself have played many sports and think about "the greats" all the time. even now we compare todays atheletes with athletes of the past. so obviously athletes do leave their impact in huge ways when they achieve monumental things.

you just sound pretty self centered.

hate on me all you want...

but if pipe skiing gets in the olympics the sport is gonna EXPLODE...

do we want it to end up like snowboarding?

It doesnt only bring money to the people who win (althought it does greatly) but to the whole freeskiing industry. When companies see that they can get some more exposure through freeskiing, they just might put down some more money on their freeskiing side of buisness. Snowboarders in general have been making a lot more money since their sport has been to the olympics
