at this point it would be dumb to vote for Nader. if he was running with affiliation, that wouldn't be the case but since he is running as an independant it is pointless. last election I would have voted for him (had I been old enough). the reason being is that I live in colorado, a state full of racist redneck republican bastards so it is not like a democrat would have had a chance of winning colorado anyway. if the green canadate (nader at the time) had won 6% (or somthing like that) of the vote, then the green party gets federal funding. that is 6% of the total vote so my vote wouldn;t have been wasted

yeah, the illuminati are scary, but that book is awesome, if anyone hasn't read Angels and Demons or The Da Vinci Code i highly recomend it. Anyways, i think edwards would be a good running mate, cus he's such a likable guy. Just because Hilary wants to run in 2008, doesn't mean she couldn't run with kerry, although then she'd have to run in 2012 if they win.

well I wouldn't go so far as to say bush has adequetly 'followed up' on Iraq. American soldiers are still there, and more die every day without a clear end in sight. We are at a grand total of 558 dead.

Now SUpilot, how can you consider 29 american soldiers dying in somolia as 'almost gettin us all wasted'? Clinton was smart and bailed out because there was reason for us to be there. We are exactly 529 times more wasted in Iraq than we ever were in Somolia.

no...you have to think in terms of the greater good. in other words did this soldiers death mean something? in mogadishu we lost soldiers and accomplished nothing even though we sought out to enable starving citizens to eat. we solved nothing here. in iraq we liberated the country because we went in full force. this was not a disaster because the mission was accomplished in this case. its a disaster if the soldiers death is pointless.

 
Nickskier...Haiti is an interesting beast, to say the least. To be bluntly honest with you I can say our only legitimate interest in Haiti is to keep its refugees from flooding our shores. As a humanitarian I would like to do more and in comparison to other countries we are helping the most. BUT I think we are wasting our time. President Bush has once again dispatched Marines to a country that obviously cannot govern itself. The latest just fled president is the same one the United States installed during the Clinton administration. (For all you Clinton lovers ;)) Haiti is the oldest black independent republic in the world and the most badly governed, impoverished and mismanaged nation on Earth. The only way to restore order and prosperity would be to make it a colony and run the whole thing ourselves. And who wants to do that, ha? I am, but at the same time am not, sympathetic for Haiti. Here is were I get mean and you start hating me again, ha. Perhaps a murderous civil war might produce a leader strong enough to shape up the country. Sometimes with nations, as with individuals, you just have to give up on them. Man that sounds awful, but its true. Sadly, Haiti is in that situation. Its population exceeds its resources, both natural and intellectual. It would take a genius of a dictator to bring about even a modest standard of living, and most of Haiti's dictators have been a long way from geniuses and interested not at all in the welfare of the people. Thoughts?

 
i agree that it is in bad shape, but the thing i descision to send marines is what i dont understand. Once things started to go downhill it was fairly obvious we would be sending some type of aid or military force, but the question is why did we not do this sooner and prevent some of the atrocities from occouring? As to how it could govern itself, i really have no idea. Aristead was in favor of a big majority of the population yet he was taken out...

 
Well the Clinton administration thought their recent fleeing president was insurance against what has just basically happened. I honestly don't know enough about the situation to comment much further than that. I think that we need to take it easy because we are already fighting a multi-front war on terror...I mean seriously, even as the most powerful nation in the world, we can only do so much I think. I hope other countries get involved more.
