Over the summer im going to climb half dome with some family friends. I am slightly nervous about the massive amounts of tourists being there. Is there anyway to avoid the cluster fuck?

We all have permits btw

How sketchy is it?

Who has done it?

Any tricks, tips or shit I should know? or do while up there?

Just googled it and it looks like a fucking walk, what's the problem?

Of course there's gonna be 10000 people it's Yosemite. Go find your own national wonder if you have a problem with it

go suuuuper early if you want to beat the crowd. my friend said he got up around 4 am and made it up just in time, the entire way down was packed because of all the people coming up. he said its a super easy hike though. have fun. i went there and its awesome. i recommend doing yosemite falls too. I hiked that and it was a super easy hike too, but theres a nice pool at the top to chill at and eat lunch with crazy views. have fun. its an amazing place. also if you have time after or before you enter the valley, check out soda springs cabin. its this little cabin you walk like half a mile to through this meadow and when you get there its a spring of naturally carbonated water that bubbles out of the ground. its so cool.

Are you climbing it? Or waking up the back side?

if climbing you better be a decent climber with good knowledge. You better have a porta-ledge, and the ability to haul gear up the face. You will need a lot more water than you think. Also you should know the route pretty well before setting off.

If if you are walking the backside, well then follow the trail and bring some water.

I have hiked some mountains in the sierras in the 11-4k range but the part that is slightly dicey are the cables.

forgot to mention that I am hiking it. was just wanted feedback from nsers especially about the cable climb section. any cuts that you can chill away from the crowd. other look outs

Absolutely not true. Snake Dike (Snake Hike) is super popular and goes at 5.7. It is climbed in a day (or in a few hours by quick parties). Even the RNWF (Regular North West Face), the main "Big Wall" climb on Half Dome is most commonly climbed in a day. To climb it in a day does take experienced climbers moving efficiently.

Came in expecting an ne'er to be doing this:

Disappointed.
