Cliffs at Kicking Horse

Yo so me and my group of friends are going out to Kicking Horse BC and we were wondering if there are any really gnarly cliffs that we have to hit up...anyone know of any?? We're also going Heli Skiing with the Purcells Heli company which is gona be dope shit...any1 gone before...know which runs we should do???

when you get there, you will relize that theres no runs. just ski everywhere, and its all dope. The only 3 things i recomend that you do though it A) When you get of the Golden Eagle Express. go towards Terminator Peak, and start the hike up there. there are multiple un-skiied chutes you can do. B) Right of The Stairway To Heaven chair. there is usually a jump built on the backside which is out of bounds, but the sp dont care. It has a huge and nice pow landing, or u can re-build it up if its not there. when u go there u will see right were i mean. C) of the STH chair again. Take a right, keep hiking past Feuz bowl, and go all the way over to either the big cornice dropon the far peak, or keep going and get some nice glades. No matter were yoiu ski there , you will have a super super fun time. the whole mountain is like big mountain. All the locals are super cool, and have a really chill vibe to them, and usually are more than willing to show you a few secret stashes. You basically will never have a crowded day either. only thing i can say is try to find one of those new hotels at the mountain, because truly and honestly, golden is the worst, trashiest trucker town i have ever been in.

yah dood thanks for the info...we've got a sik ass hotel right on the mountain...literally it says u can walk out and be on the trail to the base...dope shit...any1 else have info in KH

Dude the pub in golden has like 10 buck pitchers of beer and the hotels on the highway have hottubs and they are like 50 bucks a night. You can't get those kind of prices on the hill. Stay in town, in the industrial park and walk to trappers for beers and eat at the greek place. Who cares about trashy and trucker. Those guys have some good stories sometimes. Either way I have never had a uneventful night of drinking in golden. Try and get arrested leaving the bar, its a great way for a free ride home.

dude kicking horse is so sick. everywhere you look is epic. they have gnarly cliffs and chutes right under the gondola. or you can go to the two bowls and hit those ridges there. Terminator peak is worth the hike too. basically is is backcountry big mtn skiing in a resort, but the lift system kinda sucks, so when you hit the last bowl to the skiers right you have to go all the way to the bottom, which can suck. but other than that it is epic.

dude

kicking horse sucks

the locals there are all jerks

everyone snowblades

and the ski patrol blew out all the cliffs with half a ton on C4 to make way for even closer on-mountain housing

so what you do is ski down anywhere on cpr ridge, drop either side and jib the "houses", there's tons of them

some stick out so you have to huck over them

and at this point in the season

you really have to huck over those skied out roofs

it hasnt really snowed in awhile

truf right herrr.

but seriously, kicking horse is one of the worst mountains imaginable in the west for snow...good lukc finding untracked...

check out cpr ridge and redemption ridge, u will have a mix off cliffs from 5 to 50 feet, some even bigger, the place is nuts

well

those people must be losers

i usually complain(along with the other folks) when the line goes outside of the line maze

but on my positive note

yes, we have snow droughts

but, there are cliffs

you need speed for most of the ones of cpr, they stick out quite a bit and look way bigger than they do from the bottom

landings are usually stomped out

personally, this year im working towards more technical stuff like tight tree lines and natural jibs

havent done much cliffs this year

ski the ridges

you'll be able to scope out cliffs from either the chair or the gondola

and take my note(got it from the locals)

super bowl is a no, its too risky this year

the whole entire thing has slid already once

just go all the way to the end of the cpr ridge further than you think possible and past most of the cat tracks then drop the the left or off the end literally hundreds of untracked chutes and sick lines

the hype's gotten too big man. It's a lost cause you'll just have to deal with thousands upon thousands of americans at the hill from now on. On the bright side, it may help bring more hot girls into town

and to the guy who said golden is a trashy trucker town. You're the kind of stuck up prick that makes it no fun to stay on the mountain.

i gave myself a black eye dropping my first real cliff in kicking horse. everything there is gnar.

I dont care what you say kicking horse is a very dope mountain. Stay in town..Golden rim motor inn. Just got back from there with my buddy and the pow was so deep I ended up losing my ski outta bounds on redemption ridge :(. Anyways if it snows it will be even more dope and purcells will be the best skiing you have ever done. dont worry about the fool from big white khorse beats the shit out of that mountain anyday...

yea um no. im no prick. i dont no all you and i was just suggesting to some one to stay at the mountain for a more resort feel. i like golden myself because everyone is mad friendly and everything is cheap, not overpriced like most mountain villages. i always willl stay in golden its sick i was just telling him that the hotels up at the mountain are prob worth it. dont be so quick to judge.

on another note i really realy hope kicking horse doesnt lose the vibe it has, andbecome a all around mountain and get crowded. cas if that happens and lifts are lined, i think itd suck. the lift system is a little less desirable but fine when its not crowded. ooo a must is the halfway yurt right at the stairway to heaven chair pretty chillen sitten there adn they always got good beats going, good food, and beer. if your there late they give away the left over burgers and stuff. kicking horse owns.

Goldens people are a variety of people

sure, most of the are hicks, but thier not truckers

thier people who have thier own land, acouple of trucks, acouple of snowmobiles and acouple of quads

they travel in thier own groups, we call them "hicks"

We also have the east indian group, they play basketball, all say the same lines, (usually punjabi or chappelles show) and the guys smell and are very loud and obnoxious

then you have pot heads, they snowboard and are very cocky(i have nothing agaisnt snowboarders) and they rip since they dont really think

you have skids who drink, have lots of drama in their lives and are drop outs or go to the alternate school

then you have the skiers, a bunch of oddly dressed people who dont fit in anywhere but with them selves

at school, we dont care how others think of us, we eat food that has been left out on the table for a while or dropped on a floor

so i dont want anyone to be judging this town

I personally hate 80% of the people though

and yes, the cooks can give you free food,

buy one get one free pizza is the best

enjoy your stay, stay in town

thanks homzz fer all the info...i think Kicker gona be siik...i am personally part of the skier steeze who where whatever the fuck i feel like...i love my bright orange hunter pants and my bright blue marvin the martian shirt...hahah...well its snowin right nwo and i dont have school...SKII TIME

i personally wouldnt go out of bounds(ie super bowl or clam shell, or any other thing like that) golden just lost the life a local due to an avalanche 5 kms from kicking horse

its puking here right now

rip it up boys

thats what i was trying to get at

i wouldnt trust the upper bowls or chutes that are out of bounds

but me and my friends have been skiing out of bounds lots in the midmountain and lower area

if you go over to the steep glades though, its slid once, so we stay in the trees and cliffs

honestly, i cant remember

its warmer

still good snow

storms come and go

the area i was talking about is good

i did superbowl last year around that time

it didnt feel sketchy and the snow was stable

every year is different though

well u pretty much fuckin live there do you not...sux to hear bout the purcell crash...we're going wit them fer a day...

whoo

well I cant help it that i live here

we got 22cm+wind effect in 24 hours

34cm in the past 48 hours

its going to be good tommorow

waist deep today

no, new snow. hard pack and icy on sun exposed slopes. cpr, whitewall and fuze are all good. not really optimum conditions for cliffs and such, but good shit for technical line skiing. You can really carve since the snow really grabs your edge, but watched it, I dropped a cornice off white wall and got bucked and ended up tomahawking some of the face. in these conditions thats not at all what you want to do. I narrowly missed a giant boulder and a 15 foot cliff.

You really don't need to search for cliffs at kicking horse, theres stuff everywhere. If you guys are gonna be there for a couple days, maybe check out the big mountain center that I think opened. And make sure you hike the ridge by fuez bowl, and I don't mean the ridge under the lift. Seriously though, just look around after getting to the bottom of the stairway to heaven lift and look around. You should be able to see plenty of stuff to ski.

i went to kicking horse and skied park all day.

they hadnt gotten any snow in 8 days or something, and it was my first time there so i didnt know where

the "stashes" were.

and it was ass cold in the morning so it was more iced out then trick daddy.

the horse is an incredible place. skiied it about 6 years ago just after the gondola was opened....place was amazing, and still is now, only slightly less so

see....now if you told me and we made arrangements about your trip, you would of gotten stashes

I showed some Big White kids the good stuff

hopefully you enjoyed it

ya i know i should have and next time i will for sure.

but we were only there for one day and you were going to surgery that day and then you guys had

school the next day

nothing wrong with park days at kicking horse......

I'm ashamed to say i did a full day of catamount laps skiing park with no poles, but jay and lane were gaying it up too so i felt kinda cool

no worries dude i was just coming down at a bad time for you.

i'll have to touch up on my skills for next year though if i want to keep up with the kh locals

come in january

thats when the good stuff is

early feb is good too

but this weather is terrible right now

depends on the weather

its been -1 at base at the hill the past week

it will snow up there

and melt in the bottom

If the trees are spread out enough to ski through, they probably aren't holding up the snow as well as you think.
