Is back in the PHI. Best part? He spurned the Yankees and left $34 million on the table to do it. It's pretty refreshing to see a professional athlete act on a motivation other than to make as much dough as possible.

Yea its good to see more respect for him...I heard the rumor that when he played in New York last the fans were screaming/cursing his wife out in the stands and she was really turned off by the situation and said she didn't want him to play there. Idk if that's true or played a role in his decision, but if it did i think it's hilarious they douched their way out of a great player I hate the Yankees.

^ true that. Roy was the anchor to my fantasy team's success. The guys amazing, I think Oswalt is gonna start breaking down but he's still pretty effective. I'm a huge Sox fan, and we made some solid moves this offseason locking up Crawford and eventually Gonzalez, feels so good to see the Yanks get turned down

It's not a rumor, they harassed his wife, spat on her, threw beer and food on her, etc.

I'm sure it played a large role in his decision.

World Series 2011: The American League All Star Team (Boston Red Sox) vs The NL Cy Young Race (Phillies pitching staff)

(Aside from Timmy and Ubaldo)

its refreshing to see someone not turn to the dark side for a boat load of cash. but it's not like the guy's going to be broke either..

what's with philly's teams right now any way? the eagles got vick, jackson, and mccoy lighting it up, the fliers are a wrecking ball in the eastern conference of the NHL and made the stanley cup finals last year, and the phillies are recent world series champions and among the best in baseball. just need the 76ers to get back on track, haha

^^^haha sixers are a lost cause, but yea i feel bad for anyone that isnt a phillies fan, our rotation next year is just gonna be unfair

this is very disappointing because the rangers could have been very good again and won't be able to make a deep playoff run without a big pitcher like Lee bolstering their line-up, who gives a crap about PHI, they have Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt, and Joe Blanton, why did they need another fucking pitcher

good points for Philly sports, the same could be said for my New England teams. Pats are incredible, Celtics are deep and a solid team. Sox will be phenomenal as long as the core group doesn't miss half the season. Not really on the Bruins wagon though. As far as Sixers though, you ask too much haha

why have joe blanton when you can have cliff lee?? plus lee belongs in philly, he never wanted to leave in the first place

As a Jays fan this is the best thing that could have happened - Yankees get fucked over, Doc has Lee to be his #2 man and the Phillies have the best 1-4 rotation... ever?

Funny how a week ago the sox still looked like shit. No good changes since the end of the season and so forth, yet now...not too bad.

hopefully they make a nice deep run into the playoffs/series. I would very much like to stretch my paychecks into november.

as long as they stay somewhat healthy they should go far. we couldn't sit around for Beltre forever so I'm glad they finally made the Gonzalez deal happen. All-star defender and hitter at first, and I fully believe Youkilis will play the same gold glove at 3rd that he has at 1st because I've seen him do it. Catching and middle relief are question marks at this point. Saltalamachia has great potential but hasn't done much to prove it at the big league level. Thrilled a salty vet like Varitek is coming back for a year, he's one of the most respected guys in the clubhouse. Likely his last year but he still had 7-9? home runs in only 125 or so at bats before breaking his foot. Losing V-mart was tough even though his defense weasn't great, he's a power hitting switch hitting catcher. But Boston more than made up for that offense with Crawford.

That coupled with the Yankee's getting an F for this off-season IMO, it all points towards the Sox being title contenders. Yankees are still gonna have a sick offense but I see them having an off year.

oh man let's not even talk about last season. I don't remember any game when they played what would normally be their first team, starting lineup. And I was at damn near every home game.

Hopefully they can deviate from the usual pattern a bit too. Strong start, terrible mid summer, decent august, terrible start to the fall, then finally picking it up.

Just pull an 07 and dominate damn near the entire season.

120 millli over 5 years seems like an awful lot to play a game that I had to put a deposit on the uniform in high school.

I hate the Yankees so much and good for Boston for doing work and signing Crawford and Gonzalez.

Though I wouldn't give the Yankees an F yet there is still a lot of off season. Now that they don't have Lee I see them going for Grienke as he said he would waive his no trade clause if a winning team wanted him....Though I hope the Twins can make a sweet offer to the Royals in a trade for Grienke which I could see happening because of their depth in prospects in which the Royals could use to build...and Grienke would be a perfect addition for the Twins.

I like the Red Sox chances this year, hopefully everyone can stay injury free for them, I expect Buchholz to have a big season.
