Cliff Jumping death at local resevoir

Dear Heff-

Wherever you are, I can still feel the light that you continue to shine upon the blessed souls, lucky enough consider themselves your family. So much love to you, and your family during this hard time.

Newschoolers, If you never knew Matt Heffernan, Let me try to help you perceive the level of love that this man puts out. As put so well by another good friend Tyler Pence, "Matt was the kind of person that would have given you the boots off of his feet if you needed them, or a roof over your head if you were out in the cold.. He would have gone out of his way for anyone!" -This is too true. Matt loved you the same no matter who you were, and what you did. His loving vibration was, and still is, boundless, and eternal.

I promise to be double strong for you Heff, To always keep the love, and to forever keep the vibe. Love ya man. And till next time soon enough, shall we shred again my friend, I know this!

Holy shit, I skied with this guy a few times a loooong time ago when he lived in Ohio. It was so cool to see him move west and do big things. SIP.

I only met Hef one time.

It was the 4th of July, 2014 up at Timberline. Everyone was ducking the rope into the High Cascade lap park and me and my buddy were about to do the same when Hef and the rest of salt crew rolled up.

"You guys weren't planning on ducking that rope were you?" Hef said very seriously. We both shook our heads. A very prompt "Why the fuck not?" followed. He then ducked the rope and skied away.

That memory has stuck with me and will continue to for the rest of my life. SIP

Haha classic fuckin Heffy I can picture that to the T

I still cannot believe the news... Heff was sincerely the most genuine and nicest person you would ever meet. Ask anyone who knew him and they cannot recall a time where he didn't have a smile on his face. This is the stuff you usually hear about people who pass on but with him its the absolute truth. For only being around for a short time, he had a great and positive impact on so many people. It seemed like every day he was going on an adventure that would make the rest of us look like complete pussies... he took life by the horns, is the most simple way to put it. Its hard to come up with something that doesn't sound cliche but that was really him. He was the man chasing a dream and taking advantage of any awesome opportunity that came his way. I could only dream of living a life that he did. We lost an amazing person and I sincerely hope you all look at his life, the way he lived it and you apply that to yourselves. I can't imagine a more fulfilling way to exist on this earth. RIP Heff, we will see you again but until then, enjoy the endless pow up there. You were fucking awesome and I wish I spent more time with you and that infectious happiness.

Best of love to his closest friends and his family...

Still shocked to hear this.

I am thankful that I had the opportunity to get to know Heff, and my thoughts are with those close to him. He undoubtedly had a very profound impact on a lot of people.

I hope that we can carry on his energy and spirit.

We'll miss you Heffy

rest in peace matt. he was a radical being and I'm bummed his time on spaceship earth was cut short. I'm glad he made so many sick edits, his consciousness will be forever immortalized with many of his favorite moments put together into works of art made for the world to enjoy.

poured out some liquor for you last night, hope the whiskey tasted good.

Matt was the kind of person who had no acquaintances. You were either his good friend, or you never met him.

This one hit too close to home. Love ya, buddy.

RIP and major positive vibes to his family and friends. Please let us know if there is any type of donation opened in the near future; Im sure there are plenty of us who would like to contribute in some sort of way.

I've never been so sad to hear that someone has passed away who I've never even met. Maybe its because he was close to my age. Maybe its because I apsire to be everything that he is described as by the people who knew him. Either way, ski in peace brotha. Gone but not forgotten

Matt you were a blessing back in the days at all the skiing stuff in Ohio and where brad brian and you had all the fun stuff you guys Never held back from mont chalet to Ohio dream to big Boulder , it was a pleasure to know you we will miss you!!!!

Matt was the best fucking kid ever. I can't believe this happened.

He was so fucking good, and it's pretty much unbelievable because we were just there and this happened.

We shot this, walked down and once we got cell service we heard.

Rip to the coolest kid ever, I've never cried so hard.

heff was easily one of the best all around skiers ive ever met, and easily one of the best humans ive ever met. its not often you meet people these days that not only are genuinely stoked to meet you, but will continue to say what up and remember who you are when you see them again. it litterally only took 10 seconds to feel like you were great friends with him. he affected many lives in utah in 100% positive ways and will be remembered forever as an amazing person. rip heffy. cant even get out the words i want to about him.

i pass no judgement on those who live on the edge and inspire others

i offer only vibes to you ST and his friends and fam and a song that helped me through the loss of similar shining candles that burnt bright but to short in duration

RIP Heff. Never got to meet him, but have seen his name come up time and time again. Super impressive skier, and seems like he was one hell of a guy. Shred in peace in heaven

^ was one of my favourite edits from hood, hoping for the best

teared up a little bit watching this, even tho i never met him. SIP Heffy!

Man, Its crazy that I was up at Causey just a few hours before that happend, never met Matt but dang, huge loss in the community.

Ski in Peace brother.

Heff was always a person I admired because of the talented skier he was. When I moved to Utah a couple years ago I was hiking some rails in Guardsman Pass when Heff and some of the Hood Crew homies rolled through.

My first interaction with Heff was him complimenting the tricks I was throwing, even though I think we both knew he was the far better skier. Realizing that this amazing skier was actually a super humble person made me instantly like him. I ended up skiing with Heff and the crew for the next couple days and it was no doubt some of the best preseason days I've ever had.

I can't even imagine what his family and close friends are going through, sending my love to all of you during this tough time. SIP homie

Yo I used to work with him in utah what's the official story? I only an in contact with two others who knew who him and I'd like to know to ease my mind. Like I know it was cliff jumping but how??? He wasn't a unaware guy...

double backflip to backflop, it must've been a really high cluff because he didn't surface after that.

Rest in Peace my Friend. You were one of our tribe. The leader of the pack and an inspiration to all the young grommets growing up here in Ohio at our little hill. You carried the torch on your short journeys and we watched with awe of your abilities. Your shenanigans kept us young as parents and provided us with much laughter.

You will be dearly missed.

for anyone interested that may not have seen the Facebook event... there is going to be a memorial held at snowbird on Thursday. we're expecting a couple hundred people. we'll be meeting on the tram deck and taking the tram up between 4 and 6pm. words and photos will be from 630-7. then, a massive hike down snowbird lit with headlamps. there is also an option to take the tram back down. as you make your way down, there will be a party at tram club until midnight. in true heffy fashion, bring your tequila shoes. spread the word to anyone interested. thanks.

RIP

Be safe everyone. I know nobody likes to think that anything can go wrong, but be as safe as you can.

Always sad to see this stuff. RIP.

RIP and SIP to one of the greatest human beings ever. All I can think to say through all this grief and confusion is that there will be a huge number of people skiing, adventuring, and partying in your name forever. We will never forget your spirit. Feels as though we lost a member of the family today. #Ski4Heff
