Cliff hucks are dead

Nobody is posting videos of gnarly cliff hucks anymore. I miss the art of the huge send. Prove me wrong here, the Tee-Time generation was peak ski huck fest.

Idk, maybe less of a thing but still happens. I've seen a few backies right under me on chair 6 hollywood at Crystal. That's always a big hype spot. Some of my friends are always hitting cliffs. One buddy is starting to slow down cause he got fucked up pretty bad 2 seasons in a row.

I'm def a little jealous of skiers on the cliff layout backy game. It's a good look.

Depends where you ride I guess.

Do the landings off those cliffs usually have variable coverage? Or do you have to come off at an angle? I was there end of February last year and it did not look pleasant, like sharp pointy rocks everywhere in the landing, if you're talking about cliffs directly under the lift maybe 1/2-3/4 ways up.

Yeah it depends on the weather. There are rocks in the landing, there are rocks a lot of places. depends how the snow is holding, where it's landing, if there's a storm. People def hit it a bit last season can't remember when though. Also you can def land past the rocks or take it to the sides. Most of the rocks are directly below that cliff.

On the plus Crystal has no shortage of cliffs to drop around the mountain. Some work better than others in low tide for sure though. Not really a ton of good ones under the lifts though. A lot of mountains some of the best cliffs are under the lifts. There's a couple small ones you around northway, then pretty much just hollywood under chair 6. I guess there's the spot near the bottom of green valley. But yeah idk. It seems like a lot of mountains with similar terrain have better cliffs under lifts.

I fucking suck at bigger cliffs(like medium and above) so it doesn't bother me too much, but always sick when you see somebody rolling into one under the lift. Everyone hypes them up, and the chairlift goes wild make or not if it's a proper sender.

Even the Northeast which isn't known for it's techy terrain has a decent amount of cliffs under lifts. Some have pretty flat landings but Idk. I feel the only issue is prolly half of them are roped off vs. out west there might be a piece of boo that's like "good luck"

Lmao I wish the east was more like this. So many places are like "we will take your pass" blah blah blah but it's totally skiable for some. Some places will literally close a trail the moment they see grass...

I miss sending grass gaps. Local in NY had one trail with a lot of rolls near the top. Backside of them would get the sun and burn out. Perfect for grass gaps. Sometimes they'd grow and you'd have to land on it and hope you didn't stick.

Yeah its drf a different vibe out west. Even with skiing in the trees. Most places out west it's just skiing. East coast is the glades. And specific runs. And if they're closed or not glade trails you'll get shit. I get that low tied. But out west places have time where the trees are dirt early season sometimes. People just stay out of the trees. East coast patrol doesn't have enough real problems sometimes maybe. Idk. It's a different scene for sure.

Yea big cliff hits are sick and always impressive but I’d rather see someone finessing a pillow line or hitting sniper trannies on cliffs/tricks from different angles on steeper terrain. A lot more creative than just yeeting yourself off something ala Jamie Pierre (rip) or coonman . And snow is usually less than ideal if it’s in resort.

nah cliff hucks are alive and well. we just dont film every single huck like park rats.

i go skiing to ski, not film iphone clips for my playboi carti instagram edit

if im having my boy sit at the bottom of a cliff and film/wait for my ass, you best believe im trying something dangerous as fuck, and that im probably intoxicated.

Maybe it’s less documented but this is most certainly not true. At bridger bowl, there is so many people hucking fat shit daily. Some of my homies are hucking 30-40 footers when it hasn’t even dumped snow in weeks and like wtf.

I cut a glade that is through some cliffy east coast terrain, got one cliff thats 30-40ft and even have a (small) pillow line. I want to get some clips its just hard cus its uaually just me in there.

Cliff hucks arent dead its just that it isnt easy to get clips. And the people that are doing them are likely in a forest alone or with a couple people.

we have this trail under a chair at bromont which has more snow than the surrounding ones but is roped off. shits so fun

I'm not sure. I've only seen people who I don't really know. 1 guy last year or two years ago I waws heading up to do a southback lap. Sent it. we were like 100 feet downhill, perfect view. He backslapped but I'd count it. Was sick. I think I've seen 2 people from the lift. I'm pretty sure my buddy has done it before, but Idk if he's getting as sendy. He clipped a tree 2 years ago on the smaller one near there.

Idk if it got enough snow in that first storm cycle this year for anyone to hit it. I wasn't riding yet. I've gone up 6 a few times but it's pretty low tide on the landing.

Like others said cliffs are well alive. Just don’t film and just ski. Bridger has cliffs everywhere and all types of good spots.

The little sidehits were cool but the last rock they hit wasn't small at all. Anyone who downvoted that would shit their pants and pussy out 100p

Damn high dive looks so sick. Only seen it once when the landing wasn't great (it hadn't snowed in a while). Bucket list huck for sure, things a beast

How deep was the snow? Landing looked flatter than my ex gf

Real landing should’ve been fine, but fortunately that spot was full overhead hot tub deep. And I had a dig out team…

That cliff looks so dope. Everytime my homies make it revy (without me..) they run that the fuck up. One of them tried to dub it a few days ago.

Cliff hucking is so weather dependant. I love to huck big cliffs! Flying is the best feeling ever! But the storms arent what they used to be and people love to track out landings.

Its a couple years old but this is my huck to remember my 30th straight on skis! I was told the cliff is called Bonzai cliff, the first one when you enter Catch basin at Whitewater.

loving the counter arguments in this thread. cliffs are the purest sickest part of skiing. here's logan pehota with one of the dopest biggest cliff stomps in recent memory

the true big mountain ak big cliff skiing style has seemed to be less focused on.

Most ski movies don't do the ak heli trip like cody townsend, richard permin etc used to back when most 'big mountain' skiers went to AK every year.

The same old tgr's jackson's hole circle jerk segment don't seem progress the sport much

i think the reason you don't see them is bc all the people you watch do it 10+ years ago is either dead, retired from hucking or just retired from skiing in general. there is a new generation of meatheads and all they do is post their hucks on ig

I have never related to a comment more. Especially the last couple of sentences.

I sent a few small cornice and cliffs hits the last couple weeks. Never really been s big cliff sender and this year coming bsck from injuries and being old even more so. But it felt good to go off some smaller stuff.

Also as far as cliffs. A nice skier backflip off a cliff is timeless af. Something about it. Will never go out of style
