The way to handle a drop differs from cliff to cliff. Usually with good comfy cliffs, I pop off the lip to give myself a little more funtime and loft. Others, I treat them the "Hugo Harrison" way, in which you go off with little to no pop, sometimes even absorbing the lip. This is best at higher speeds for me, and because of the terrain I ski, I rarely do it.
Spinning off cliffs is another matter altogether. If you're in any kind of powder, you'll need to crank the rotation a lot more than normal. I also lean way more back than off a park jump, as landing too far forwards off a drop is a lot worse than leaning a little back.
All in all, just start small, and never go for anything that feels wrong. Waiting for good snow is a lot of the game as well, and I spend the cruddy days exploring and checking out landings. Always know where you're dropping into and whats below. Good luck!
