Cliff Diving

I went on Saturday for the first time and it was pretty fun. We jumped off some like 25 ft cliffs a bunch and I did some flips and junk off a like 7 ft one. Then I decided to try to jump from the highest part, it was i think like 45ft high, I got like 4 seconds hang time when I jumped off. Well anyways I guess my teeth weren't all the way together or something because when I hit the water off the highest part it made my teeth slam together and it sorta hurt but I didn't really make anything out of it, I was fine. But when I got home and ate something it kinda hurt, and I looked, it turns out I chipped/cracked it, oh well. It was really fun, I want to go again.

I was doing misty and lincoln off a 10ish footer and I'm too much of a pussy to do it off anything bigger or try a backflip or gainer. I was jumping off cliffs in Idaho like a week ago.

a 45 foot drop gives you approximately 1.66 seconds of hang time, not 4 seconds. to fall for 4 seconds, you'd have to jump off of a 78.4 metre (or 257 foot) cliff, and you'd hit the water at 141km/h (or 88mph).

i just got back from sum bridges and cliffs today i learned how to spin while doing gainers and got a gainer 1260 off a like 15-20footer

Ok, then it was probably 70ish feet, I know I was in the air at least 3 seconds, we counted, I'm not too good at estimating distances lol. But anyways my tooth wasn't chipped or damaged really, all it did was scrape some fake enamel off of a previous dental repair.

biggest ive done, is like 50-55 and it was at a lake inbetween whistler and vancouver and like there is this cliff there with a plaque at the top that says some dude died there.

well, you get the idea:

theres a 45 ft(ish) cliff i straight air off of, and a 20-25 ft cliff that i dive, spin 10's, and flip off of, it's quite fun

in central pa we got mad cliffs to jump i have my pick of like 8 places with in like 20 minutes of my house ranging from less than 10' all the way to 85'

and you mad's right exxagerations on thing but 3 and 1/2 second hang time is well over 76ft, i dont know about mad's math there but i d know that a good estimate is 1second for every 50 ft.

some kid im my city died jumping of soem cliffs, he slipped on some algae and fell down onto the rocks bellow, I think it was around 50 feet. Pretty messed up

this was a fun jump...only about 35-40 feet though...

the highest i've done is about 65-70 feet...i love cliff jumping

Has anyone here been to that really small lake near the emerald part of whistler? With the crazy rope swing?

physics was a lonnng time ago for me, but i think, in the first second, you fall 5m in the second you fall 10m and in the third u fall 20m, so in 3 seconds youed fall 35m, which is a lot more than 45 feet

guys.no. pierre's cliff huck (255 ft)was 4 seconds in the air. i guarantee you just think you were in the air longer cuz thats just what happens when ur the one jumpin. or maybe ur just counting too fast.

hahahha vt represent. redrocks is sick. my friend fuckin double gainer'd the 80ish footer there. it was intense.

that is more like 20-25ft. Most people here saying 75 ft are probably actually jumping 55 footers. They always seem higher than they are.

something tells me you were counting too fast. that something is physics.

75 ft = 22.9m

d (when falling from a rest) = 0.5*a*(t^2) (a is acceleration for you non physics people)

manipulate that equation to solve for time and you get:

t = (2*d/a)^0.5

t= (2*22.9/9.8)^0.5 = 2.16 seconds

also, that's provided that it was actually 75 feet. people often overestimate by quite a bit.

You forgot to factor in that when people go cliff diving they don't fall off the cliff and let themselves fall entirely with gravity. They normally jump up, so you may need to recalculate.

but it seems like you are in the air so much longer than you actually are. i think i went off of like a 50 ft but thats all

cliff diving is fun as hell..i dont acually dive but just jumping from 50 feet at calfs pen in lake george ny is enough for me

There's not much choice of height at my first cliff jumping place up in Plymouth. I was told that the jumps are 20ft., 30ft., 70ft., and 110 ft. The 110 is off the top of an old bridge, but I only jumped off the 20 and 30, gainering a few times off the 20. It was fun.

you forgot air resistence, which depending how fat you are, can make a big difference, you can't use kinematics solely when dealing with high speeds
