Cleaning your jacket/pants

well i normally don't get to dirty when i'm skiing especially in the stuff i wear to the resort...but you know it gets some dirt on it some how...and this year i purchased white pants and i would like to keep them as white as possible...i know that after the year they won't be the perfect white but i can try...

what do you guys use? do you just through them in the washer at home? or what spray and wash? just looking for some pointers.

check the laundry instructions on your jacket becuase most say NO DRY CLEANING. I started this same thread last week and got some good help... I went out and bought "shout" cleaning spray, just spray and rub into the dirty spots, let sit for a few days, then put it in the wash. dirt is gone on my bright orange jacket.

I use "Sport- Wash" that is sold at the ski shop. Works better than laundry soap. It leaves no residue and restores factory applied water proofing.

cold water with a powdered, phosphate-free detergent works the best. you only really need nikwax if you've already washed it a few times and need to restore the waterproofing. otherwise, most quality jackets should be okay for a wash or two before the waterproofing declines. for drying, i've heard two conflicting things: that you should drip dry only or tumble dry on low for 30 minutes. both of these tidbits came from reliable sources, so i'm not really sure what you're "supposed" to do. part of it probably depends on the type of laminate that's on the jacket.

im lazy and i dont really care, so i just scrub that SHOUT stuff on them, let them sit for a while, rinse em off and wash em on cold...

Powdered detergent with no softeners is fine. I use like half the amount I would for regular laundry just so I know there's going to be no residue left. And wash on warm, not hot. Nikwax wash isn't really necessary unless you want to spend more. I hang to dry.
