Cleaning jackets

does anyone know the best way to get some dirt stains off a jacket? it says no dry cleaning on the tag and I tried taking a toothbrush to it with soap. any suggestions?

Spray and wash, rub it in, let it soak, wash it, then hang dry.

Spray and wash will get rust out of white. It's amazing stuff.

Just wash it. Powdered detergent on a warm wash. I always use half the recommended amount just so I know for sure there's not going to be any residue left. Buy some Nikwax if you really want but not strictly necessary. If the stain is really bad then rub some detergent + water (make a paste) into the stain really well then wash as normal.

There should be special washing direction in the jacket, depending on the material. But beneraly wash in COLD water, and air dry. Never heat dry.

best bet is to whack a load of washingup liquid on, leave it for a while, put more on, give it a scrub, repeat. got off an about a year old mcdonals stain off my jacket which wouldnt come off any other way.

wash with whatever, and go buy nikwax or some other product that puts waterproofing back into the jacket. when you wash it, you can kiss that goodbye!

I need help on a related topic. I recently put one of my pairs of pants through the wash, and afterwards sprayed them with Scotch-Gard to make sure the waterproofing was still there. I tried them the other day in the poring rain, and it seems they are worse and just soak up the water now. Is there something wrong? Do I need to do 2 layers or something?

Spray and wash, let it soak in, rub it really hard and scrub the area, let it sit for a bit, then wash, restart wash cycle with nikwax instead of soap, but when the water fills up, let it sit for like 45 minutes so the nikwax soaks right in and does it's magic little thing, then finish the cycle, air dry, scotchguard it as many times as you can until you go skiing again. Scotchguard in between skiing days.

Fuck that, even if it isn't mud, outerwear still gets dark patches. And I like skiing in mud and grass, it's fun.
