Cinematic Widescreen vs Regular 16:9

I was wondering what aspect ratio people prefer to view on

skiing videos. I have seen several great ski videos shot in a more cinematic

ratio, but most people don't use this ratio for ski films. What do you guys prefer?

Regular 16:9

Don't judge based on the videos, just the aspect ratio.

It's called cinemascope if it's "cinematic widescreen", meaning it has around a 2.35:1 ratio. I personally lately habe preferred cinemascope over 16:9. BUT it completely depends on the video. That first video was horrible. You should never put a dubsteppy GoPro video in cinemascope. It's supposed to look cinematic, as the title indicates, and the filming and video should reflect that. I think it looks good in a really well filmed video, but not at all like the video you gave as an example.

^Agreed. I think it really depends on the style of the video, but most of the time I just like to have it in 16:9. Follow cams and wide angle shots usually don't look good in 2.35:1 (or whatever other wider aspect ratio), at least imo, so it makes it harder to get a good look with it.

Skiing involves gestures much too vertical to ever justify 2.35:1. It's just something many people do so that they can go "omg its professional."

I personally love the look of 2:35:1 and I have been using it a lot. I think it needs a few factors for it to be worth it.

1: needs to be shot with this framing in mind, better to use markers.

2: exported without black bars.

3: Its cinema proportions for a reason, so what you do with it better look cinematic.

I only use it for certain projects but I love the outcome that it gives if you frame your shot further back keeping in mind the crop.

heres an example of my videos with this ratio.
