Cine Lens

Worth it depends on the person using it haha.

Do you have a follow focus/someone that will do that for you? I'm not sure which ones you're talking about either, cause there's a huge difference between zeiss cp2's and rokinon "cine" lenses.

Real cine lenses are usually pretty huge, have long focus throws, declicked apertures, and great optics and all that comes with a huge price. There's a lot more to it but that's the simplified version

If you're not even using a follow focus, then I wouldn't bother even thinking about cine lenses (exception being the rokinons which are basically just rehoused versions of their still lenses

Cine lenses can be great if you're working on a controlled film with lots of planning and time. (Teton Gravity, Poor Boyz, Brainfarm) They take a lot more space, control and effort to use them although the payoff is huge. Make sure you have a follow focus tho as racking focus would suck using your hands. If your just filming park or even urban then there is no need for them as you can't move quick and when filming the faster you can move your gear the more shots you can get. Your gear should help you not hold you back and weigh you down.

I'm not against them I just think they are for a certain group of people and you would know best if it's time to upgrade.

you'll also need a decent lens support system/matte box/filters for them most likely. The total cost will be huge, but I mean hey if you can swing that, you might as well pick up an arri or a red to pair with it

haha ya. OP what type of shooting will you be doing? Park? Urban?

I think if you shoot backcountry they might work because you would have time to set up while the skier hikes and gets into position but that would just be a really really heavy backpack

you can def shoot park/urban with them haha, you just need someone to pull focus for you. Set up's not a big deal, I mean stept/all the other companies sometimes rent cine lenses for their shit and it works out great

I think you're mistaking ski filmers with high level video productions. Ski filming is very basic compared to the normal film industry. Id be surprised if anyone is using an ac in the ski industry. These companies you named have 2-3 filmers with their own camera to operate on every trip/shoot, not a crew of 10 like a movie set.

OP skip cine lenses.

I don't think I'd buy one due to camera setup as of rn but im just wondering about them. I've seen and heard them mentioned a lot but never knew a true difference.

So basically not worth it to a low end consumer?

Not at all, if you dont have an ac/someone to work follow focus just forget about it entirely
