Chronics?

Hey there, im looking for a bit of advice.

Im considering on buying a new pair of skis. I have been rocking my Volkl unlimited ac for too long. I have been doing some researching and i kinda have my heart set on LINE, specifically the Chronics. I am a relatively advanced skier, I mainly stick to the groomers but occasionally go off piste when we get some fresh snow (im located near ottawa, ont.) and would like to get into some more park. Im 5'8 , 145 lb.. Are the Chronics (171) a good fit for me? Any other skis you would recommend? Any advice is appreciated!

Yeah they're a pretty good all around ski, but at your size I'd bump up to the 178. You might consider the K2 Shreditor 92 in a 177 or the Liberty Sequence in a 175. Never had any experience on any of the On3p skis but I know lots of people on here recommend them so they might be worth looking in to

^In regards to what he said, I have ON3P Kartel 98's and they rock. They are awesome in the park and out. I have them mounted at center since I ski mostly park and they rip the rest of the mountain. If you have the cash I totally recommend them.

If your heart is set on Line, then go for it. ON3P's are expensive but you get what you pay for. With that being said, the Chronic's are a great ski (and they sound pretty good for what you're looking for). Definitely get a 178 if you get them.

I have the Chronics in 185s and they are pretty solid. As long as you aren't getting into super deep Pow you should be fine. Take them to the park, thats where they want to play man.

Thanks for the relies! I am on a bit of a budget. Right now on EVO i can get Chronics and griffon bindings(90mm brake, this is the correct size, right?) for 590$. Seems pretty good for 2015 gear. I think for now ill stick with my current boots, but for future reference, what should i look for in a pair to suit me? any suggestions?

I find my set of Chronics to be pretty versatile. Light, low swing weight, fast turning, carves well (with sharp edges but not so well when they are dull as they are a bit softer ski) and lots of fun in the park. For more than 12-15cm of fresh snow I find I find them a bit harder to turn than my wider skis. Durability is decent but not to ON3p levels for sure.

As a pure park ski I certainly enjoy it.

If you want something with a bit more fresh snow bias for the gain of a bit of weight the Blend (100 mm waist) or a ski like it might be worth looking at.

you should take a look at asogear on ebay. sometimes they have deals and you won't have to deal with the exchange rate or shipping. But they usually only sell skis and bindings separately.

Forgot to add...

I'm 5 ft 6 ish, 145 lbs and on 171 cm chronics. So I would say you could size up.

If you don't mind a year back look for 2013/2014 line chronics or blends. They are the same as the 2014/2015 ones but with different graphics.

The kartels are also on sale on evo right now. Honestly imo the chronics have a higher swing weight but arent great at all mountain and not a fully dedicated park ski, a good ski to start park with would be something like the atomic infamous that still rip outside the park, if you want a more all mountain focused skit that can do park, look at the sick day 95/ sfb or rocker 2 100 all are on evo on sale right now. Overall i think kartel is best at everything.

Lots of help! I am now looking hard at the sick day 95s. If i decide to go with them with griffons, is 110mm brakes the correct size?

10mm is kinda big but would be fine the rule is usuall under 15mm, the 90 mm breaks can be bent pretty easily so really either would work.

I have the old chronic chryptonites from 2010(?) (same dimensions) and spent an entire day demoing the 2015 Chronics last weekend. I'm a huge fan of the versatililty of the ski. Not super great in 12"+ Powder. But at 92mm no ski really is. Its killer for charging, park, groomers, crud, chop, etc. Huge supporter of the ski. My pair has lasted me forever.

I used to think line was really crappy beginner level ski with crappy durability but the last two years they really seem to have stepped it up. I havent looked at the chronics but theres some kids at my local hill who seem to like em alot. dont know much about them but the kids i see with them seem to hit more jumps than rails but i dont know for sure what their main focus is. Ive definitely been looking at some of their powder skis. Probably gonna go with some on3p's but they definitely caught my attention for a bit.

I have it narrowed to the 178 Chronics w/90mm griffons or 179 Sick day 95s w/ 100mm Salomon sth12. I just need need to decide whether i want the park ability or the off piste ability!

both great skis but keep in mind sick days have a hard tail so you can't ski switch with them

you could get away with it for some stuff but you are right, they aren't a symmetrical twin like the chronics
