Chronic Cryptonites - Am I the only one or...

are these skis ridiculously massively heavy?
I'm 178 tall, 180lbs... I bought the 178 to give me versatility and caus I generally dont like small skis. Mostly I ski rails because I am from the UK and there is nothing else really to do.
So far what I can tell is this:
Pros:
Literally the most ridiculously easy and fun ski to cruise around switch on.
Will destroy crud and power through shit snow
Hold an edge on ice
Super strong and stiff
Will give you great calves if you intend to ski rails lots with them...

Cons:
Massively heavy (like skiing with a clone of Oprah [when she was fat - is she still fat or has she gone thinner again?] on each foot) - genuinely I pulled a muscle in my ass cheek popping a 2 onto a down bar tonight - they are so so so so much heavier than my old skis (176 Rossignol S4s and 178 4frnt TNK's)
Mounting position is slightly too far back (feels like they have a weird spin weight)
De-Lam really easily.

Has anyone else found this? Or have I just been shaftet again like that time I bought those Anthems where the bases turned to carpet after 5mins of skiing no matter what I did to them (professional service, race wax, normal wax, basegrind and structure etc etc - couldnt fucking believe it - and caus I bought them on an end of season deal and had skiied and serviced them to try and fix the problem I couldnt take them back....

Anthems are pretty heavy too... But they're not SUPER heavy, they probably just feel super heavy to you coming off of the rossi S4, which is ~83 in the waist, and one of the lightest skis that I've ever felt that wasn't a kids ski. It'll take some getting used to, but it'll be fine. Also what bindings do you have on them, because that could also make a big difference. Cheers.

i was planning to maybe get those for next year.. but are they actually super heavy? i like light skis

i rode them, (my friends) and i hated them, not hate to the ski, but i just thought there were really really heavy and stiff, though it did ski good in crud, it sucked for park, but thats just me

I have a pair. Don't find them heavy at all. Maybe on the stiff side, but I don't find them as stiff as my Blends (08/09).

Man up......

i weigh 145 and ski the 173 chronic cryp. they're a stiffer ski but they have great pop and with them center the swing weight is fine and they're beast. insane all mountain too, you can ride a good amount of pow no problem. best ski ever

How are they compared to regular chroncis? I'm on normal ones right now, I was thinking next time I buy skis I'd pick up some of these? Just a bit heavier/wider/stiffer? Same pop or what? Cause I find normal chronics to be quite poppy.

ya the cryps are just wider so they do better in pow and are more stable. I think the cryps are supper poppy as well and a ton of fun everywhere so im guessing they'd feel like the same flex but just slightly heavier but more stable

I ride chronics, and I thought the same thing as you. I suggest you ride them for a while and then you will actually get used to them and then at least in my case I think they rock!

I was on regular chronics this year and then I got my cryptonites and they are similar in flex. Definitely not heavier, at least not noticeable. They have more sidecut so the turn radius is a little shorter than chronics. I love both, happy I went with cryptonites even though I wanted a softer ski.

my experience on the cryptonites is that they are pretty buttery...
don't know where all of this talk of being stiff is coming from. although when i did ski them they were about 10 cm too short, that may have done it

You definitely cannot butter on them, way too stiff. Getting up on your tips ≠ buttering, I can get up on the tips of my cryps and play around but it is far from buttering.

yeah this, i love my chronics and theyve all ive ridden ( used to have original chornics) but i do wish i could have a ski that is more buttery and flexy, but then again nothing ive tried beats my chronics on landings

Yea they are absolutely amazing. The pop on every version of the chronic has been unbeatable, I can ollie over something probably 3 feet high on my cryptonites. And they absolutely slay landings, so stable.

If you like light skis, I wouldn't recommend chronics. Get masterminds, cuz those things are super light poppy and buttery but if you wanna go big air chronics for sure doesn't matter if they're a bit heavier
