Christmas ideas/ Photography

Hey Ns... So my mother asked me what i would like for christmas this year and i want a camera. I have been taking a photos class in my high school and have been working with a lot of film. I shoot with a Nikon N80. For christmas i would like to get a nice digital SLR. and that is why i came here... I need some opinions on what to get. I would like a camera, lenses, and any other equipment you guys believe is necessary for nature, portraits, and skiing photos.. I want the camera to be able to take video also. i do not mind which brand it is. I just need some people to give me a list on the perfect first bundle. Remember i want to grow into my camera. Not out of it. Dont worry about pricing either. I got some sweet KARMA to hand out also for whoever wants to help me.

Peace out,

I would consider the Nikon D90 18-105 kit. The lens is not all that impressive however the camera body has recently been replaced so they may be less expensive. The D() body is a very strong camera that will still do deliver well balanced photos to everything you have listed.
When you want to upgrade newer glass will make the camera really shine.
I would recommend a prime lenses to start with 50 1.4 then invest with a 70-200 lens.
All personal opinion though. Lots of people on here have strong opinions so just do your own research and see which cameras do what you need them to do.

If you want a solid photography body I would recommend the d90 over the d5000. D90 takes great pictures and is a nice camera but easy to use as well. If you are smart, you might consider buying a cheaper body (d3100 or d5000) and spending money on lenses. They will be the best for you in the long run and will not decrease in value.

I wouldn't recommend the 18-105 kit lens that comes with the d90. Even the much cheaper pair of 18-55 and 55-200 does much better quality wise.

IMO Nikon glass is much better then canon, but can also makes a great camera.

I would say either the Canon 7D or the Canon 60D. I prefer canon myself just because of the fact that unlike Nikon, they're able to use different lens companies, other than just canon brand. With Nikon, you're very limited because of the internal motor.. just a thought. Quality wise.. both are similar. I'm still a Canon girl though. Highly reccomend the Canon 7D though. Works awesome, my buddy had one and I loved it! Hope it all works out great, have fun with your photgraphy and vids!

Canon 7d

70-200 f4

50 f1.4 (you could get a 1.8 or 2 too, depends how much you want to spend/ who makes it)

Tokina 11-16

i don't know why everyones mentioning canons I shoot with a sony a200 and it's tough as fucking rocks I mean this thing does not break and it's not too expensive if ou need any other information I'll send you som epicture quality shot s

canon 7d, i got a t2i and i think im growing out of it.

+tokina 11-16 or sigma 10-20 (get a fixed aperture though)

canon 1.8 50mm

canon 70-200L

and then a 24mm or 35mm prime

This isn't true.

OP, prepare to hear a bunch of bitching about whether nikon or canon is better. fact of the matter is that you can produce great photos with both, and there's advantages and disadvantages to both, so do research on it and try to muck through all the personal opinion.

if price isn't an object, a canon 60D or 7D would be money. those aren't entry-level DSLRs by any means but they are very possible to learn with. Also take a very good look into lenses... the lens is just as important as the body and often times it'll be in your best interest to buy something better than the stock lens.

What are you gonna be shooting anyway? Sorry, but you didn't really provide a wealth of information for us to work with

I am going to be shooting everything from nature, skiing, some videos, portraits, macro pitcures. Just about anything

Exactly what i'm thinking. I'm also thinking that it fucking stupid to buy a 7D or something in that range as your first DSLR.
