Christians 1 Atheists 0

This, it's christians who believe something, then it is them who should have to find proofs of their god. They dont do this, because there is none...

It's just like believing there isa giant blue unicorn there or a a giant, invinsible babydick...

Religion is so primitive, I dont understand how people can believe that with today's technology and science, atleast they could make a new religion that isn't 2.000 years old....

You sir are a dick. Just have respect and mind your own business. If you have no faith in anything so be it. But in actual reality you are having faith that there is no god, when we have faith there is a god. Neither of us can prove it, so neither of us have valid points. Therefore like that one dude said. RESPECT.

Alright I didn't read every post in the thread, just putting that out there so if I say something that's already been said, sorry about that.

I also know that a lot of the guys on Newschoolers are Athiests too so I'm probably going to get hated on here. In no way is this a "who's right or wrong" argument either.

I'm just kind of stating my views, and the only reason i'm doing this in the first place is so that if I say that I'm a Christian another time on this site, people will understand where I'm coming from.

Now, in no way, shape or form am I trying to push my beliefs or ideas on anyone. If you don't want to read where I'm coming from on my views, stop reading now, that's your choice and that's perfectly fine.

I really dislike the Christians who try to push their religion on other people. Let them believe what they want and we'll believe what we want.

Alright well here are my views for anyone that's curious if I ever say something else about me being Christian on this site:

I'm a Christian, like I said before. The reason why I started as a Christian and am one now, is mostly because my parents are Christian. I'm just going to say it like it is. That is really the reason why I am, because of my parents. I don't think that's a bad thing though? I read the bible and pray and stuff just like all other people with the same beliefs as me do. I'm not catholic or protestant or any big religion like that though. On Saturday's (yeah saturday) my family and I just read the Bible a little bit and that's all we do for "church" we just kind of follow the bible (yeah the book that most people say is just a myth on here).

I believe in God, almost just because it's nice to have something to believe in. I don't want to think that after I die here that everything is over. I just want to be more optimistic about it and just think that there is life somewhere after death. Even if it's just for that fact of being more optimistic in general. I just feel more comforted believing in God rather than having nothing to believe in. Even if I'm wrong about believing in God, Personally I just think it's nice to believe in something.

I mean, I have little things that have happened in my life that make me really believe God is something out there, but I'm not going to say those though because I'll probably be considered that crazy kid on NS. Haha.

Seriously though, just random events that have happened in my life, (that all you guys would claim are coincidences, and they could possibly be just coincidences, I have no way to prove they're not) but they make me believe in what I beleive.

Those were just my views on why I'm a christian. You guys can call me ignorant, or -K or anything you want, it's alright by me, I don't mind. We all have our different beliefs and that's fine by me, I accept all of your different beliefs and those were just mine.

So pissed I actually read this thread, you have no argument whatsoever.

Still have yet to see a religious person with even a slightly valid argument that is more than "you cant prove otherwise"

Sorry to single this out, but this is just the kind of attitude and belief that really makes me wonder sometimes.

i can understand that all those little things in life that come together seem sometimes as someone is holding a hand over you.

i can understand that, but then again, how often is it that NOTHING happens?

i also can understand that you want to have something in this life or especially something when youre dead. when a friend of mine died at age 21, i so hoped that he is with his mother now and all that stuff and the whole prospect of seeing him again is awesome. but i just cannot believe it. i cannot trick my mind into something like that. trick is maybe a harsh word, but thats how i see it.

i mean i could probably sit here all day and thank god for my wonderful life (which it is, really, enough to eat, drink, a warm bed, a caring girlfriend, good friends, lots of fun stuff to do, sports, education, etc) but how in the world have i deserved that? there are a millions of people out there being very faithful in god and they have nothing to show for it. they starve and die, get raped or killed in anonymous wars or become orphans, die dishonorable deaths...

so, i cannot disprove that god exists. but in my definition, he is either not allmighty or all-merciful. and how could you pray to an entity who isnt both?

i dont disrespect you, just some food for thoughts.

Yeah, that's what I mean, that the only valid reason for many believers is the fear of the unknown and hopes of life after death, instead of embracing reality and living life to the fullest because it's the only one you have.

i can respect other peoples beliefs like ok thats how you were raised thats how you view the world thats your decision good for you live your own life, not my place to judge

but dont start a thread called `christians 1 athiests 0` like its a competition and you're keeping score thats just tasteless not to mention immature and disrespectful in its self.

i can't imagine why you would post this...

i can't respect someone that is weak minded enough to have to believe in something they have no proof of existing to dictate how they should live their life.

Why did religion first come about? because early man did not have the intellect to explain how things in the world worked. Well now we do know these things, and over the past century religion has become completely obsolete. It does more harm then good and that is a fact, like it or not. The biggest argument someone could have ever had was that the "heavens" were in the sky, an unreachable place. Well we have been to space now, and there is no god chilling on a cloud u there.

God does not exist, the universe exists, we will never fully understand it, but we sure as hell have answers for everything religion used to cover, answers that actually make sense.

I definitely see your point and what you're saying. I mean, I do live my life to the fullest though. Sure, I'm not out fucking mad bitches or "sinning", but I ski everyday and just have fun with life.

I even realize that believing in what I believe may sound weird and I probably sound ignorant at the same time too. It's also just the way I was brought up so I'm so used to it. Now it just feels right to believe in god, and just pick up the bible and read it every once and awhile before I fall asleep or something. Personally I don't feel like it takes away anything from my life or anything like that.

Again, sorry if I sound ignorant but I also sometimes think of it this way too:

For example:

I'm completely wrong in all of my beliefs and after I die, I'm dead for eternity. No resurrection or anything like that, and there is no God or being that created us. If somehow after I die I can look back on my life and see that there was no God or anything, I wouldn't regret the little time I took out of a day to read the bible or to "talk" to God. In my whole life the minutes a day I spent doing something religious, could possibly add up to be a lot, but at the times that I do something, I wouldn't be doing anything else other than playing video games or something anyway so it really wouldn't bother me.

Then for example if somehow I am right about some of my beliefs that there is a God, then I'll be glad I took the minutes out of my day to go do something religious.

That's just the way I see it. I totally can understand all of your points of view on the situation make sense too.

I also understand what feihlination is saying. I'll definitely think about some of the stuff you said. I'm also not sure how I stand on some of the points you brought up either though and if I try to say my thoughts on it I'll probably come off as dumb anyways. Oh well if I sound dumb I'm sorry, but I'll try and explain at least a little of what I thought about what you said:

You stated that there are people starving who have almost given their whole lives to God, and that's true. There are people being killed who have given their lives to God too. I personally think God has the power to stop any of them from dying. I feel like he could stop anything or protect anything however and whenever he wants, but I don't THINK that's his intentions. I believe that in certain situations God has the power to stop someone from dying or to keep them alive long enough for them to do something on earth that could possibly help someone else, but I don't think he controls the situation that they are in. I think he could if he wanted to, but he doesn't because I feel that's not what he created us for. I feel like I've basically been lucky to have been born into a nice family and be in the situation that I'm in. That could all change though and next month I could be homeless and living on the streets. I'm not going to say that God did that, or think that God should get me out of the situation though, I feel like that's just not his plan.

I don't know if that made any sense.

Also, notice how many times I used the words "I think/feel" in my paragraph. Those are all just my ideas on somethings and they're probably wrong I'll admit it. Like I said I really don't know, or have a clue about it for that matter. I'm almost just making little assumptions on stuff that I've seen and typing it out here, so I hope you guys don't hold me to anything. Like I said those are just my thoughts and beliefs on everything. We all have our own.

Thanks for being really understanding too about my thoughts. I always try to be understanding about all of yours too.

Oh no. You're going to make me, and everything that I said about being a Christian and my beliefs look terrible. Thanks...

= all of religion and religious beliefs. people cant be reasoned out of beliefs they werent reasoned into. people dont change ingrained beliefs because of intelligent or witty arguments on the internet. Only knowledge, of the external world as well as self knowledge, can lead to people stopping the cycle of religious indoctrination. That's a personal choice. Arguing with theists can be fun and is a great way to expand one's knowledge and learn to spot logical fallacies; but there are very few people who make the intellectual leap in response to arguments. If you actually want to help theists, ask them questions, get them thinking. Plant seeds. For the most part, it's unlikely they'll grow. But every now and then you'll encounter someone who is genuinely interested in truth and reality and that seed will take root. Don't waste your time on festering, polluted dirt, seek out the fertile ground.

I'm a Christian, but this is kind of the wrong way to go about spreading the Christian message, we shouldn't be confronting atheists like this all it does in create unnesscesary tension, some that the bible says we shouldn't do we shouldn't create strife as all in all nobody benefits

Explain dark matter and energy then.. You can't. The universe is infinitely expanding, how can you explain that. And how can you call someone weak minded when they are contemplating life, our existence, life after death, creation, etc. That is just ignorant.

Who ever said "The Heavens" are just above the clouds? The heavens could be in a completely different dimension that we cannot even conceive.

My point being, is don't call someone weak minded because we have faith in something, that's ignorance cause you cannot prove 100% you are fully right. And neither can I. Hence the respect thing.

That is completely irrelevant ahahaha. Science is "The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural..."

In short it is the study of why we exist and proving there is no god. so of course 93% of the people in the National Academy of Sciences don't believe in god. They are living their entire lives trying to prove he does not exist. And as far as the prison goes, 1. I want to know where they got that data, and 2. I would be willing to bet that most inmates start believing in god in prison, there are so many prison ministries, and evangelism in prison. So that makes that irrelevant as well.

I agree with those of you who are saying that Religion is obsolete in today's society, given modern science. Having said that, i think that the basic morals that religion instills in its followers is good. Most of the religious people that i know are morally sound, trustworthy, and great people.

I kinda disagree with their motive though. I think that someone should strive to be a good person in order to better the people around them, and have a positive impact on the world. Not in order to achieve eternal happiness and glory in the afterlife. With that in mind, i think that Parents can instill these values in their kids without the crutch of a religion. I also think that parents forcing their kids to go to church is wrong and a form a brainwashing, but that's a for a different conversation.

I stop believing in religion when it harms others, strips people of their basic rights, causes any form of conflict, or interferes with politics. That's why I'm not religious, not because i don't believe in being a good person.

Just my two cents.

shit anywhere. enlighten me. I want to know about it. Cause I just talked to a professor of science that worked at MSU and he couldn't explain it so enlighten me.

I wutted hard.

They are advancing science and if they happen to discover factual information that happens to help refute the existence of God, coherency of the Bible and its creation story on the side, well, that's just too bad for you.

Let's start with the basics: What is dark energy? Dark energy is a hypothetical form of energy that is responsible for the increasing acceleration of the expansion of the universe. Why is it believed that the universe is expanding? That model fits the empirical evidence that we have. What is dark matter? A theoretical particle that does not interact with ordinary matter except through its gravitational properties. Now that we have that out of the way, which area would you like to explore further?

Putting yourself on a pedestal, saying ridiculous shit that has no substance. Just playing devils advocate here...

Trip post, coming back to this, this is a classic atheist argument. Always drawing absurd parallels, trying to dumb down any prospect of supernatural life. You don't see us making fun of you for thinking we evolved from monkeys (lol). We accept what you think, and keep to our own beliefs. It is YOU who causes conflicts such as these, ridiculing anything you don't believe in. Im going to pray for you all tonight.

While you're here atheists, riddle me this: if God didn't exist, then how did Jesus walk on water?

You were doing good, and i agree with your point about respect, but acting pretentious, and taunting him to "enlighten you" makes you a dick. Stop

You know what, im sorry for picking you out. This whole thread needs to stop. Everyone has their own beliefs, that's where it ends.

if this even 5% non-troll you are one of the select few people i will call names:

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU FUCKHEAD.

i dont like getting personal, but you offended me too.
